Depends on whether or not I want to pay for the view. The cruise is fabulous and includes music. But it's not free. The Poly is free but doesn't include the extra 'cruise' portion before Wishes and it doesn't have music (I don't think so, anyway).
I guess I wasn't specific enough. We will see Wishes from inside the Magic Kingdom once or twice. We are having dinner at Ohana. Should we see Wishes again from the beach or from the cruise. Where would the view be better?
I watched Wishes from the beach at the Polynesian back in October. It was so relaxing. I laid on one of the hammocks on the beach and watched the fireworks. I could see everything, the only drawback is the lack of music, which you can faintly hear in the distance. But if you have seen Wishes before the beach is a great place to watch them.
We've enjoyed the fireworks from the Poly beach! I can't remember if they piped the music in or not; I'm thinking not. The closest we've come to a cruise is watching the fireworks from the launch between the Poly and MK. In all seriousness, the kids enjoyed that experience as well; I'm not sure what else the cruise offers...
It used to be that the only place to hear the sound track at the Polynessian was to huddle up close to a speaker at the pool. I don't know if that has changed. If you've already seen/heard Wishes once or twice, my choice would be to watch from the beach. But perhaps that's because I've done the cruise but not the beach.
This was not a "normal" trip for us. We did the Grand Gathering Wishes cruise and the "regular" Illuminations cruise.
My in-laws stayed at the Polynessian one night (a DVC point thing). Since it rained early in the evening, our plans to hang out on the Poly beach changed. So, I would *love* to go back on watch Wishes from the beach.
Regarding the cost... For us, yes, it was worth it. Since we had the Grand Parents and Grand Kids, I would absolutely do it the same way again. If it was just our family of 4, probably not Wishes, but Illuminations, yes. It would depend a lot on how the finances are at the time... If someone pays for part of the trip again, probably both
We did both last week. After dinner at Ohana we walked out to the beach and pulled up some lounge chairs right as the EWP started. Then we watched wishes which was a great view (and it was for MVMCP). A few nights later we had a wishes cruise. There were 7 adults splitting the cost so it wasnt that bad. It was a great experience but no need to do it again. If you have the $ I would do the cruise for the experience but if you dont - the Poly was awesome too.
