As I hinted above, I don't have as many pictures of the dress as I would like. This is not my most glamorous story...
Ok, so my dress and veil came in. Everything is correct, thank goodness-- I was getting a little worried from reading other ladies' horror stories. I still love the dress just as much as the first time I saw it. It's not traditional, but it's exactly what I wanted. It makes me feel like Snow White (I hope that doesn't sound silly). I took a few pictures of the dress details, I'll post those below.
Yesterday I had my first appointment with my seamstress. I found her through word of mouth, and I feel really confident with her, she obviously knows a lot about sewing and construction.
I have to insert a little back story here. When I was 18 I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. It was unexpected because I was always very active and I ate pretty well. I decided not to take any medicines, and after 3 years of a new diet and exercise routine, I lowered my A1C to a non-diabetic level. I still keep that new lifestyle, because I know I am predisposed. My biggest challenge is that my blood sugar can get very low very quickly.
So I was at the seamstress and I had my dress on. I was standing in front of the mirror and she was showing my mom some changes to make to the back. My head has been buzzing for a minute or two but I was thinking it's from the excitement. Suddenly, it felt like I had ear muffs on-- everything I heard was muted and muffled. That's my cue that I'm going to faint soon. I didn't want to be rude and interrupt the seamstess, but I didn't have much choice, so I just said "Mom, my sugar is crashing!". In five seconds my mom had me in a chair and was pulling one of my emergency snacks out of my purse.
This sounds really icky, but when I have a crash, I get cold sweat all over my body. I knew that was coming any second, so I yelled "GET THE DRESS OFF!" I may have been half-conscious, but I was NOT getting sweat on my brand new wedding dress! So my mom slipped the dress off, and then I was just sitting there in a stranger's house in just my bra and underwear. It was not very princess-y.
In the end, I was fine and we got all the changes marked for the dress. The bad news is we didn't get to take pictures. I'm going back next week for a second fitting, so I'll try to get pictures then!
In the meantime, here are the few I took at my house:
Close up of the garment bag
Lace detailing
Flower on the back
