While I am not a member of Team WISH (or whatever you guys will call yourselves!), I "wish" you the best of luck in getting ready for the 2005 Marathon.
I changed my lifestyle in Oct 2002 and have lost a total of 54 pounds and went from a size 22 to a 10/12 (right now) with some more pounds to come off. I've been getting ready for the 2004 1/2 marathon and hope to run in the 2006 full marathon at WDW.
There are lots of good places you guys already mentioned about marathon training. The best advice I have gotten from the trainers at my gym are: take it slow, build up your endurance and lift weights (if you can) to help build lean muscle. I couldn't run/walk more than a mile without feeling like I was going to bust a gut. Now I run/walk about 5-6 miles 3-4 times per week. I have participated in 2 10K races and 3 5K races and had some pretty decent finish times. You guys have a
long time to prepare for the race--my trainer said that most people could be prepared to run a full marathon in less than 6 months (I personally think a year is better if you are totally not in shape like I was!).
An option for some of you when you start your training is to look into a run/walk programs. I currently use a program that has me run for 3 minutes, walk (briskly) for 2, run for 3, etc.... It really helps me to be able to keep up a brisk pace without feeling like I am going to pass out-lol!
I also belong to a yahoo group called "teampenguin-disney" where we all participate in the WDW 1/2 or full marathon--nice group to ask questions and not feel like a "newbie".
Anyway--I just wanted to wish you all the best of luck and hope your training goes along great!
BTW--for someone who posted that their DH or someone was not particularily supportive. I told my DH of my plan and he was like "Yeah right, if you can pull that off I you can stay in whatever WDW hotel you want". I turned around, picked up the phone and booked AKL Concierge & BWI Concierge for 8 nights--guess he figured out pretty quickly that I was serious!
