WISHcon 2005!! Anyone here interested in setting this goal with me???

Boy, am I proud of you guys! I will need to see where I am before I can commit totally, but I'd sure like to do that. So. . . .put me on the tentative maybe list. :D Now, let's break out those WATP tapes and move!

Did you guys go to the disney site where you read all about the marathon? Did you notice they only have 7,000 walkers/runners for the 1/2 in jan 2004? They allotted 8,000 spaces so they have reopened up registration. Do you think if someone wanted they could get in for this coming jan 2004? And since so many seem interested would we all try to stay at the same hotel and would they give a group discount for us? I have never stayed on site at WDW so i would be interested in opinons and a group disscusion on where to stay. I have only visited the MK so i'm no veteran at WDW. Now if universal has a marathon i'm on it! Anyone what to pm with idea's on rooms and where and details? I'm so looking forward to this already!

YES!!! Totally count me in on this! 2005, right? I am there!!!! I wish I could run it, but my blasted knees won't let me. I would love to power walk it though! Woo-hoo! Look at all the time we have to train!

Can we do a group cruise right after? ha ha ha! ;) We can call it WISHCON. ;)

What a great idea!!! Thanks for coming up with this. I LOVE IT!!!!

Oh I wish I could come over and do this - I ran a half marathon about ten years ago just to prove I could do it ( I had a bet with my boss and I had to do it in an Easter Bunny suit - I won £1000 for charity)and I'd like to do it again properly.

Have to see about budgets - what date is the 2005 one? and is anyone going to see about a group booking, might make it easier on my wallet.

Good luck to all definitely entering - It's given me an idea anyway so I might just start training for the London marathon!

Just noticed on the site the triathlon - you can have a 3 person relay team

Disney Triathlon

The three-part race, open to women ages 14 and older, will consist of a quarter-mile swim through the Seven Seas Lagoon, a 9.2-mile bike ride out and back from the Magic Kingdom Park, and a 2-mile run through the Magic Kingdom Park
Relay Team
2- 3 women, who collectively complete all 3 segments of race. Relay Team Categories: a) Friends b) Family c) Corporate d) Specially Abled
Wouldn't that be cool?? I used to swim for my county so probably am still pretty fast - I'll have to see if there's one closer to the time when I can go and rope in my sisters.

Count me in! I would love to do this with you guys! and with 19 months to train for it, I really think I can do it.

Regina
(PS- My DH and kids would never let me come to WDW without them so count them in too! They may not be walking, but they will be there.)

Partyofsix- I did know that there were openings for 2004- they decided to up the enrollment by another 1000! But, I didn't think that would be enough , at least for me, to get in good enough shape to do this. BUT- by all means- if someone wants to do it this year- please go ahead and do it! They can still join us in 2005 and then we'll have someone that actually has experience with it helping us through. Like I said in my OP, I had planned to do this in Jan 2004- so my ressies are still set for then. Since we'll be there anyway, I think I'm gonna register to be a volunteer- that way I'll have a limited amount of exposure. AS for the hotel arrangements- I think Disney does have group ressies, and I don't see why we can't get someone to head up the hotel arrangements at least for that weekend. If this does truely become a DIScon, we'd probably have a lot more people joining us as well! Again- I think when we are a little closer to this happening we can certainly discuss where to stay. BUT since it begins in the EPCOT parking lot, it probably wouldn't be a bad idea to stay at an EPCOT resort. AND I was to by my guide at the DVC that this weekend is FULL- so, we might have to make ressies sooner then later. For 04- I made my ressies at the 11 month window for BCV's and that weekend!

TigH- I thought of the cruise as well! Ahhh- great minds think alike! However unlikely the possibilities are !!

Elisebutt- there is no DEFINITE date set for 2005 yet, but the traditional time is the 2nd weekend in January- the marathons are run on that Sunday. I saw that triatholon you're talking about! It does sound fun and maybe someone will take you up on it. But I'm afraid it won't be me! I can barely walk at this point!!

Wow Karen!! I can't believe the response to this thread already!!! How awesome!! Way to go on a brilliant idea!! :):)

I would love to try to do this. I turn 50(who said that) on 12/1/04, so this would be a great goal for me to reach in celebration of 50(would the person who keeps saying this number please be quiet:D :D )

So, I guess the time to begin training is TODAY. I go to a Chiropractor who does triathelons, so I will ask her for help for training. This would be really great to accomplish.

Hi everyone! This is a great idea. I'll put myself on the "tentative" list as well. My friend here at work did the full Marathon just this year and has already registered for 2004. I was so proud of her. She brought in her Mickey medal to show me, and has e-mailed me pictures she got that Disney took of the runners. She thought that the 1/2 marathoners got a medal too. I even discussed this with my dh for 2004, but we decided against it. I think 2005 is a great plan. My friend said that with some training, there would be no problem for me to complete the race doing nothing but walking (although I wouldn't mind doing a combo walk/jog thing). When they open up the registration at midnight, she is right on-line getting registered because they only allow a certain number of spots for "international competitors", so being Canadian qualifies us as that.

I guess I better start using my pedometer more often ;)

Did I hear someone say CRUISE?:teeth:

I vote for a weeklong WISH CON event! The marathon will be on a Sunday. I think alot of us would arrive friday evening or Saturday. (we could have a WISH meet Saturday to all get accquainted with each other) We could then do the parks the balance of Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday and THEN leave on the Disney Wonder on Thursday for a 3 day cruise!

I don't want to plan too much before the marathon (like a cruise or the parks) or my legs may not last for the main event!
:D

NOooooo! The WISHCON has to be the week before the race. I will most likely be off of school that week....

(Did I mention that I am great event organizer?)

i would absolutely love to do the 1/2 marathon. Ideally I would like to be able to jog the first few miles then walk the rest, but lots of time for planning! 2004 would not be good for me, we are going to WDW 12/03. But maybe by 2005 we could? I have always thought we should cruise as a WISHCON! oh how cool! i'm going to dream about this for quite a while, maybe just maybe I can swing it!

This is a great idea karebear1!!! I would love to join you in the half marathon. I've got at least 75lbs to lose first and a lot of stamina to build up first, but I know that I can do it. I know that we ALL can do it!

I'm with you Regina! I'd forgotten that 2005 was the year of Mom and Dad alone for the week after New Year's at WDW because of school schedules. Of course, if Mom and Dad are going away. . . who's going to mind the store? Hmmmmmmmmm.

New thought. Maybe this will be a solo trip for mom~as long as I can arrange the day or two after the marathon at school.

You guys can talk me into anything!!

Put me on the tentative list. (glo, I don't know how to PM). Even if I can't make it, the training will do me good.

Any idea of a date? I teach and sometimes it's hard to get vacation.

I can't believe I'm even considering this. What a change 2 weeks and some crazy disney people can make.

I am new here, but I was thinking the same thing too. My hubby also never says no to a Disney trip!! Count me in too!

Carmen

Ohhh..........I want to too :teeth:

But, I will have to be tentative until closer.
We are "scheduled" for a Disneyland trip for Nov. 2004, so not sure if I can swing it..........but I'd sure like to try!!

I loved meeting people in Dec.........and want to meet more.

Glo......do you want a PM for tentatives too?? Or wait until closer to the time??

How about a training schedule. How do start to prepare for the marathon? We have 19 months.

Last week I started walking. I am walking 3 miles in about 50 minutes. What is the next step?

I am so excited:Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc

Count me in for '05!

Training schedules can be found in Runners World (if you want to work up to running it) but in general you just work up to it. We have 19 months to do it so lets research it and set up a training schedule.

(Just an FYI - our local American Heart Association - via its "Train to End Stroke" offers "free" trips to the Disney Marathon if you vow to raise money for their organization - so if you are strapped for cash - this is a possibility.)
