Wish Trippers...Unite!! Volume One

I have to tell you all about the most recent wish I did. The family was from a not-so-great area, and the boy wished for a trip to Disney. Well, they went to GKTW...for a night, and left, and took the money! I am so sad for the kid, and I don't know what kind of action MAW will take. But BOO! Who doesn't want a week at GKTW??? Mostly, I'm angry because the child did not get his wish, and they took a spot that another family could have had at the Village.

That makes me cry. I just don't get how someone could take their child's wish away like that.

The DC AJ wants to go on I could swear there is a dolphin excursion and it's a 5 day cruise. He doesn't care about the dolphins as much as going to Atlantis waterpark. He thinks the waterpark sounds really cool and we'll probably go there on oiur own if it's not included. I'm so excited for him and it probably won't happen until Feb. but what a great thing to look forward too!

That's awful. I can't belive someone would do that. I'm sure once the MAW finds out about it, they'll make them give back that money. I just don't see how someone can do that to their child. I can't wait for our trip. I'm ready for a vacation away from the drs and the stress of what my son goes through. He needs this more than we do. I would never never do that to my child. That's awful. I really hate to say this, but I hope those parents get in big trouble for what they did. And yes they did take away from someone else, that's just awful, that really makes me want to cry, but it also makes me very angry at that family.

Tomorrow, Monday, September 15th is the big day for Sebastian...he is having his port surgery.

I think he is is excited to get it out since we explained that it means no more needles. He asked if he will have "the mask" (for the anesthsia) and like an idiot I said, "Yes." I wanted him to be prepared but this totally sent him into a panic and he was crying about being scared of "the mask." So Brian and I just told him "No mask" and he calmed down. He's having Versed so he won't remember the mask anyway. Thank God!

We'll be there at 5:30 a.m. and he should be going under about 7:30 a.m. Please lift our little guy up to the Lord and pray that this is his last surgery :) Thank you! Thank you!

Off to go wash his Super Man pajamas. He wants to wear them tomorrow to help him be a brave boy and they were in the laundry.

Much love and gratitude! ~Amber

Amber, I will be praying for ALL of you tonight and tomorrow as you guys prepare for his surgery. Bless his heart! And yours! I know he will be fine. I am praying that he will feel very brave and that you guys will, too! :)

Hang in there! :) And, if you have time, please let us know how he is doing. :)

Amber, best of luck with the surgery. Nick always had broviac/hickman lines so there was no actual surgery to remove them but I know Sebastian will be so happy to have that port removed!

I will be saying a prayer for an easy surgery and I will pray for strength for the family as I know this is a difficult time.

That is just horrible. I can not believe people would do that. I am so angry at the abuse of MAW but am so incredibly saddened that the poor little boy has parents like that. What else have they denied him? So very sad. I hope actions are taken more than just paying back MAW

I am finally a junior but I swear its such a fabulous experience that I wish I wouldn't have messed up 10 years ago. Its really difficult with the girls but honestly its worth every ounce of stress

Thanks girl, I was weary at first because I didn't want anyone to think it was a horrible trip and didn't want to scare away other wish families. I will add more tomorrow. I have to get ready for work now:headache:
You're right. I will be very worth it. I think it's good for us to read some reports that aren't perfect too. It's so easy to get caught up in all the wonder and amazement, but truth is each of our trips will be unique and we need to know just because we get a break from all the daily crap at home our kids are still who they are. Even with not "perfect" trips it's still an amazing opportunity

I have a sad story that just actually infuriates me.

I work at Chili's grill and Bar, right now we are doing a month long fundraiser for St. Judes called Create-A-Pepper. It's pretty much mandatory that you buy a shirt if you are an employee (i bought 6). http://www.createapepper.com/

The employees have set up a little friendly compitition called "Penny Wars" girls vs boys. Pennies are equal to positive points, silver is negative points and paper currancy is negative 2 points. All funds deposited go directly to St.Judes. Everyday when I go in I give my extra coins etc and at the end of the night as well. WELL!!!! There is a guy there I will call him Conan...

He got change from his cash out and he put it into his pocket. I was like "Oh put it in the jar silly" and his response was outrageous. He told me that he was the only bread winner in his family and his brother who is 18 is going through chemo and they both have college tuition to pay. I looked shocked and was like really I understand your pain trust me but its change. He decided to justify why .65 cents will break the bank. So I got loud and said "Listen here, I work, I go to school, my daughter is going through treatment, my husband works and goes to school and we have bills too. You have one heck of a nerve. Now I know I can't force you to donate out of the kindness of your heart but good gravy fool this is going to children." His response "It's not my problem people piss their money away and can't pay for their own children":scared1: :headache: :scared: It took everything in my power not to beat him in the head with the clipboard.

sending prayers for you and sebastian!

this is a little off-topic, but I'm wondering when AJ will get his port out. How long after the last treatment/MRI/scan do they do it? Just curious. We have treatments until December.

 What is wrong with people???? I get it, I understand but gee wiz, a little goes a long way. I guess he really doesn't understand. :( How incredibly sad. :( I'm a believer in good karma and man, this guy is taking from his bank rather than giving away. Unfortunately, it will come back to him.....

On a happier note, did ya'll see that Cold Stone Creamery is having a MAW promotion?
Looks like you can purchase a star and proceeds go to MAW. And on 9/25 they're giving out free ice cream on flavors that MAW kids came up with! :)

I think it depends on your dx and also dr. DD had hers out four months OT (this past July), after her last chemo. We probably would have had it out sooner (3 months) but we were doing a 2 for 1 promotion :rotfl: and having it done with her stent procedure (minimizing her time under anthesteia...) Our dr didn't want to leave it in any longer than necessary b/c it's "hardware" and another source of possible infection. she had her initial 3month OT MRI and bloodwork and then we were given the clear to have it taken out. We chose to wait another month because we knew she was going to have another procedure. I can't wait to know what it's like not to have hardware (she had the port removed, stent removed, stent re-placed and nephrostmy bag placed w/in two days) and be able to treat a fever like a fever! (NO ER VISITS! ) :thumbsup2 Waiting to see what Wednesday brings us....

I can't wait for Mia's port to come out. That will be our last surgery*cross your fingers* but we will have to wait until July 09 as a percaution
