Wish Trippers...Unite!! Volume One

Some have done cruises-others haven't been able to. It all depends on the chapter, I think. My son wanted to do a Disney Cruise, but the only cruise they would approve was a 3 night cruise. That just seemed so short. So he decided to do WDW because it would be 6 nights.

I have read of others only getting to do a 4 night cruise, some of them getting a 7 night cruise and others not being approved for any kind of cruise. Hopefully you will have a chapter that has the money for cruises! Let us know!

Carol

Thanks for the info. I really hope the cruise gets approved because that is what she really wants. I agree a 3 night doesn't seem worth it. I will let her know to think up a backup. Normally I would say WDW but we just went there for 2 weeks in April/May.

Just an idea but I know a girl who just got her wish granted and I think it was for a week in the bahamas at atlantis and swam with dolphins.
good luck

My son wished for a Disney Cruise and I think they're going to grant the 4 day one. It does seem short and he asked for the 7 day but what can you do? It's going to wonderful no matter. I hate to be pushy, but the bahamas cruise at atlantis sounds wonderful, maybe I should mention it and see if it's possible? He would love to swim with dolphins. I just hate to seem ungrateful and all of that. We will be happy with whatever they do for us.

Hello everyone! It's been ages since I updated my trip report, but I did post an update last night. I thought some may be interested in hearing more about our beginning as a family - our twins were born >3 months prematurely, and it is as a result of that prematurity that Mark has cerebral palsy. I was working with some old pictures from the NICU for a talk on family-centred care I give to O/T students at the university and I've included some of the Pix in the update.

I hope you'll check it out! Here's a link...

Ooooh! And I pressed send before I had a chance to mention...

We are thrilled to have been invited to be part of the Big Give!!! I never dreamed this might be possible, given that we live in Canada - I've just been enjoying reading about the other Big Give Families. What a special group of people the DISBoutiquers are!

Have you ever heard of someone spending the entire week at GKTW?

I don't see why you couldn't spend the entire week at GKTW. There are always fun things going on, and a bunch of things to do. Plus, it's convienient to be so close to the villas.

Updated front page.

As many of you know, we are currently doing a week of specialists. Today we saw the cardiologist who never wants to see us again! This is great news! Doctor did Echo, EKG and 24 hour holter and there are no signs of Pulmonary Hypertension or V-Tachs!! We are sooooo happy. We also saw GI and he thinks that Michael is just small but is at least inching along the 3% line so he does not need to see us again either unless we are still concerned with his growth. He is doing the Colitis test to make sure that's not it but doubts that it is.

I am working at 1.0mbps here so I must go. Hope everyone is well.

Wow Wendy! I haven't been on in months, and when I finally do sign on, this is the first thing I read! AWESOME NEWS! I am so glad you finally found the right doctors for Michael! Adam is doing well post transplant, and has FINALLY gotten into the school with the autism program . We have had some bumps with my husband's health (heart issues), so the DIS has been a distant memory for the last few months. I am so glad to hear your good news! ~Elisa

There is actually someone with the big give who sent our family a package from Canada. It was amazing on how quick the shipping was being that we are in California.

Amber!!!! That is such wonderful news!!! I am sooooo happy for all of you!!!!!:thumbsup2 :cool1:

I have a question for you, do you live in Charlotte NC? Some of the things you posted sound familar. We have family there and were just there over Labor Day weekend!! In fact we have talked about moving back, but want to find good dr's and the services we have here.;)

Also, check out my TR!!! I posted pictures of the awesome package you sent Hank and Mackenzie!!! They loved it!!!:wizard:

Yep we're in Charlotte, NC...we've been here for almost three years now and Absolutely love it. There is so much to do for young families. I spent most of my life as a Floridian but I'm loving actaully having seasons! :)

I have found (MOST of) the medical care here to be awesome. From the very first day our pediatrician at Randolph told us that an Oncologist would meet with us in an hour at the hospital on a Saturday we've been taken care of. That Oncologist told us that night that he would take care of Sebastian as if he was their own. And that we were all a family now and that is really how they operate.

The two Children's hospitals in the city Hemby and Levine are both excellent. We perfer Levine for MRIs simply because the waiting room for kids is much better. We've used Hemby for his craniotamy surgeries. The PICU was top notch. When hospital didn't have the right expert (since Sebastian's case is so exceptionally rare) they found him for us and sent everything off. The Pathology department has even let me come and look at the slides under a microscope myself and answered my laundry list of questions. Even the Librarian at the hospital has been helpful! The Child Life Specialists have been wonderful too at helping him cope.

If you ever need any info on the area just let me know :) We also LOVE our neighborhood and the amazing, kind and supportive people who live in it :)

ok, I am so happy I found this board and this thread! There is so much info here I'm blown away. I think I've only read 30 pages so far. I read the first 10 then skipped to the last and am going backward. I can't wait to get to know you all!

This is about the poster who asked about a trip to WDW and to see the dolphins. This is just info that our Wish granters gave us. They cannot give 2 wishes, and some would consider that to be 2 wishes. They said the best "deal" is to ask for WDW and then go to Sea World for a day to their dolphin park. Because to ask for both would cause it to be rejected (and kicked back to be redone). You might get something from Sea World, but maybe not free admission to that dolphin park. You could use the $$ they give you for expenses, or your own $$ to add on the dolphins though.

You can discuss all this with your wish grantor people, they are used to discussing the various options. I was very confused about what my daughter wanted, she settled on Disneyland in California, but we also were given passes to Universal Hollywood for a day.

I hope you are able to do everything you want on the trip, we just got back from california about a month ago, and it was awesome.

I need your help picking Halloween costumes!

Being the crazy Disney loving family that we are I'd like to pick Disney characters for the kids to dress up as. That way too I can bring the costumes with us on our trip in December and the kids can wear them again for some special pictures.

There is no question what Sebastian wants to be. For the second year in a row he wants to be his hero Buzz Lightyear. Done. I still have to buy him a new one since he grew like a weed this past year but at least I know what he wants to be.

The baby is a challenge. I'm thinking about dressing her up as Tinkerbelle or Minnie Mouse. The smallest size that either costume comes in 6-12 months. She will only be 3 months but maybe we can alter it?

Siennah loves the princesses! She has yet to really develop a favorite. So my question is which princess should she be? They are all such cute costumes. She also likes Tinkerbelle and Minnie Mouse.

So cast your vote:

Ariel
Belle
Cinderella
Jasmine
Minnie Mouse
Sleeping Beauty
Snow White
or Tinkerbelle (first page tink)

Another option is for us all to dress up as the Incredibles for Halloween. Thoughts? I couldn't find a baby incredibles costume :(

If we went the incredibles route I'd still like to bring a princess costume to Disney for Siennah so go ahead and cast your vote either way :)

THANKS!!!!!

I called Disney's ADR line to try again for some of the reservations we wanted. While I was on the phone with the very helpful cast member there was a cancellation for a table for five at Mama Melrose---that's exactly what we needed for the Fantasmic Dinner package. We're so excited! Two more ADRs left to go...Chef Mickey's and Liberty Tree Tavern...I'll keep trying.

This cast member went through all of our reservations and put in that Sebastian was a Make A Wish child. Isn't that awesome?! She was the first cast member I've spoken with who gave two hoots about MAW...oh well it just takes one right?

:goodvibes

Amber - I think the infant Minnie Mouse costume is sooo cute ! The 6 months should work. Costumes tend to run on the small size .And for Siennah, what little girl doesn't want to be Cinderella ! Tinkerbell is also cute ! Ahhh decisions !

Thanks for the info. She really wants the Disney Cruise and swimming with the dolphins is secondary. Only the 7 day cruise stops at ports which have a dolphin swim as one of the shore excursions, that is why we mentioned it. If we got to do the 7 day cruise and we had to pay for the dophin swim that is fine with us, we would never be able to afford the cruise on our own though.

Another quesiton for anyone who wants to answer, after you got the letter saying your child was approved, how long was it before you heard from your wish granters? We only got the letter a week ago and I know it said expect 2-4 weeks, but just curious.
Thanks

Hello everyone!!!

Just letting you guys know that I started my trip report. I figured it was now or never. I have recieved quite a few requests for it so here it is

http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?p=27548598#post27548598

I feel so distant from the DIS lately, my semester has been throwing some curve balls and I finally got back to a full-time schedule at work after going super part time during Mia's treatment. Time is not a friend of mine at this time:rotfl:

chcmama- we heard pretty quickly.. we got the packet on a Thursday and got the phone call to set up a meeting on Sunday, had the meeting the next Sunday and now we are still waiting to hear our dates. Tomorrow is three weeks since the meeting with the volunteers and we did get an email yesterday saying there is a GTKTW form that needs to be filled out and we need to go to our insurance company and request insurance for rental cars. But.. still no word on offical dates. Waiting is sooo hard! There was even a line in there that said to still keep things a secret from Nick. UGH!!!

Chrissie.. I am so glad you started the TR.. I know you said it wasn't the best trip but I am looking forward to hearing about all the wonderful times and I know we wouldn't mind sharing the burden of the not so wonderful times.

What a good idea :) My vote is Minnie for the baby and Tinkerbell for Siennah. Madilynn is SO against that. She says girls HAVE to be Cinderella LOL Can you tell who her favorite is?

We hadn't even gotten our letter. We received a call saying Hi this is Ken and I'm one of your wish granters. He told us we would be getting a letter in the next day or so. He and his partner Laurie came the next night. Our letter arrived two days later. We got our Flight Confirmation this last week

I hope school goes well or you. It's hard when your a momma first. I'll check out your report when I get back from laundry duty :)

I've been reading a bunch of your trip reports...it's so fun to read about them! :goodvibes

I became a Wish Granter this spring (something I've wanted to do for a loooong time) and I actually am going to meet with a family to help the girl pick her wish tonight! :cool1: I always get excited about that! :woohoo: I have 3 wishes that are finished, and 3 in process. I've been busy! :thumbsup2

I have to tell you all about the most recent wish I did. The family was from a not-so-great area, and the boy wished for a trip to Disney. Well, they went to GKTW...for a night, and left, and took the money! I am so sad for the kid, and I don't know what kind of action MAW will take. But BOO! Who doesn't want a week at GKTW??? Mostly, I'm angry because the child did not get his wish, and they took a spot that another family could have had at the Village.

chcmama- They will have your daughter pick one wish- a cruise, or swimming with the dolphins. Of course, you will get spending $ so like you said, if the cruise is her #1 choice, you could always do the dolphins as a shore excursion! How fun! I always love to see what kids wish for! I hope those of you who are planning trips have an amazing time!!! :lovestruc :cloud9: :dance3:

 What?Really? I hope there can be some sort of action taken. This is such a horrible thing to the little boy AND maw. I too am going to become a wish granter. I have applied through Dream come true and go to an orientation in October. I want to pay it forward:)

I am finally a junior but I swear its such a fabulous experience that I wish I wouldn't have messed up 10 years ago. Its really difficult with the girls but honestly its worth every ounce of stress

Thanks girl, I was weary at first because I didn't want anyone to think it was a horrible trip and didn't want to scare away other wish families. I will add more tomorrow. I have to get ready for work now:headache:
