Wish Trippers...Unite!! Volume One

Welcome Amy! You should really read some of the trip reports about it- reading about it got my kids much more excited about it than seeing the website. Of course, my kids are older ( 16, 13, 12 and my wish kid is almost 10) so they thought it looked too babyish. But when they read everything about it, they were blown away- even my oldest. Something about all the food really won them over!
I can't wait to hear about his visit on Sunday!

Carol

I just read a whole trip report and Oh MY!! I have shown my kids some of the pics and they are blown away. I have subscribed to a few others.

I know what you mean!!!! I have been addicted to reading the trip reports over here!!! They are all so wonderful and amazing!!!

Can't wait for you to start a trip report!!! Then I can get my next "fix"!!!!!

Welcome Back! Glad to hear you had a great time! We're thinking about taking a day to drive to the beach - at age 9, our boys have never seen the ocean (OK they flew over it) and we thought this would be a nice mid-trip break. My husband also wants to go to Kennedy Space Centre, but I'm not sure if the boys have enough interest. They are a space-based science camp this week, so we'll see how enthused they are after this.

I am curious about using the GAC at Dinosaur etc. Sorry if I don't have the right details about your wish child/party. Are you saying that they wouldn't let you use your GAC for someone in the party other than the wish child? This is something that we are interested in knowing more about, not because we want to be really demanding, but just because there seems to be inconsistency, and I'd like to plan our days so that our able-bodied son will be able to do the things that Mark cannot. Someone else described tkaing the GKTW button to Tower of Terror and explaining that their Wish child was waiting for him, and he was sent to the Fast Pass line.

Does anyone have expereicnes to share? Is there an official policy? And can anyone tell me how this works at Universal as well?

Thank you!

Alison

Alison,
My daughter, granddaughter and I wanted to ride Dinosaur but the wish child was scared of the ride. We had been using the GAC for 2 days with no one questioning us about anything. I guess Dinoland has a stricter policy than any of the other lands which I thought was very strange. This didnot happen anywhere else on our trip. They didnt even let us stand in line to meet characters. We usually just showed the GAC to the CM at the entrance to the fast pass line. Justin was being very difficult about walking anywhere so we went to Guest Relations and they gave us a red tag which allowed us to use the stroller as a wheelchair.
I also wanted to mention that the pools at GKTW are heated. They were actually a little to warm on the days that it was 90+ but the kids werent complaining.

Amber: Your package arrived yesterday, but no one was home. While the boys were at day camp, I picked up the package from the post office. They saw the delivery notice and are very intrigued to know who the mystery person is who is sanding them a package. I'm off to pick them up now, and we'll open when we get home...I'll try to remember (and post!) pictures!

You are so very sweet...and yes, I saw how much was required to get that package up here to the frozen north (we're expecting a high of 85 today!)...you are beyond generous.

Alison

I started it and tried adding pictures but stopped when I couldn't get them to load smaller.

please keep us in your thoughts we are right in Fay's path. We are now under TS warnings now. We are getting small gusts right now but as the afternoon goes by and on into the night and tomorrow into Monday we are going to be getting hit, not as bad as cocoa beach but we are expected to get about 11" if not a little more. This is going to be Jonah's first storm to go through at home, usually we head out of town but we're staying put for this one and see how it goes. I think we'll be fine. We've been outside with the dogs watching it come in. Please just think about us and the people that this storm has already affected.

We've just started the process with Starlight Foundation for a wish and I have been looking for this thread for days! Just interested in how it all works and everybody's experiences....

Thank you! I don't even know where to start. My daughter's physicians office has done the referral and then I guess we go through the approval process? How long- generally- does it take from start to wish granting?
I guess I've just assumed that it will take a few years considering my daughter is interested in a Disney travel wish.

I think our doctor sent in our info in Feb and it took just a couple of weeks for us to get a letter saying we had been approved and would be contacted by MAW in a month. It took about 6 weeks before they called us to get some info from us and then they gave that info to our local wish granter. She met with us in June and Nathan's trip is in November. The entire process was faster than I expected.

Stay safe, Becca! Hopefully it will pass through soon!

Welcome, new people! (I'd read and write more, but I'm getting ready to leave for the world. If you'd like postcards for your children, please pm their names and snail mail addy!)

Becca, please stay safe!!! We were hit with Fay on Wed, Thurs and Fri.! Lots of power outages, flooding and damage. Luckily none to our house. The scariest parts were the tornados.

I will be thinking of you! Please email me if you need a place to come and stay!!!

I am not sure how all the wish groups work. We went through Make a wish.We had applied in April and we took our trip the first week of August.Make a wish tries to grant the wish within six months of initial contact.I do know some families that have applied and then chosen to wait a while until their child is well enough for travel.I really can't imagine that it would take a few years.

You know that you can count on prayers from our family. I can't imagine what a storm like that must be like. We never get rain like that in Utah. Stay safe.

WELCOME   :dance3: :cheer2: :cheer2: :grouphug:

I don't have any experience with Starlight foundation but I am sure someone around here does. Heather has given you the best suggestion...go to page 1 of the Wish Trippers and you will get some great info. Then just ask and we will try to help any way we can.

Thank you everyone for your thoughts and prayers. We are ready (i think) the anticipation is killing me. We have been waiting ALL day for it to hit here but it's going to hit a little while it's about 50 miles from us now and we are getting more wind then rain right now. We already had a cable outage earlier. We have all of jonah's equipment that has chargeable batteries charged or charging and ready to go.

Janel, thank you so much for the offer.

I think each state may be different. Lauren was approved by her physician in December, I think. And we found out that she was approved for a wish a couple of months later. We are going to DW in October. :) So, I think it is much closer to a year, rather than two. And it totally depends on the situation with your Wish Child, too. You have come to the right place, though, to get information! This is an awesome board! :)
