Alright folks.. Florida is cooling off quickly, just in time for everyone coming down for wine and dine! Got in 4 miles yesterday, and it was a breezy 84 degrees just before sunset. That means temps in the 70s after dark! :yay: Before that I had an unexpected 6 days off from running... Came home from work each day and just crashed.. with work clothes still on and all. Anyone else work 12+ hour shifts and manage to still run those days? Cause I'd love to know your secret!

I feel your pain on the long shifts. I work 12's and I feel like I neglect my running on those days. Now that it's cool in the AM though I've started doing some of my short runs before work. Last week even got crazy and did my last one before going in. All I know is that until about halfway through my shift I start to get super tired and sore.

I have some serious catching up on here. I've neglected the boards for about two weeks. I see you all have been doing some incredible running. Very impressed with you all. I'm doing 8K tomorrow (4.9 mi) and am pretty nervous. I'm not sure why since I tore up my 4.5 miles last week but we'll see how it goes. I think my running buddy might have abandoned me but it'll be ok. It's a really small race so I actually fear that at my 13 minute mile I could truly finish last! :scared1: Hope not, but I guess as long as I finish it doesn't really matter.

Hey everyone, got another 18 in this morning, in the mid 70's for the run. Held about 7:20 neglecting the time spent at water stops. Now doing homework, joy. Good luck to everyone doing Wine and Dine

Hi everyone!!
Kim, good luck with the 20 miles this weekend. And good luck to everyone at the W&D.

I have my first 10K tomorrow!!! And I just bought a new pair of Brooks!! Gotta love new shoes. (don't worry, I am not wearing the new shoes tomorrow :thumbsup2)
I hope everyone has a great weekend.

Oh I def love new shoes. I just got a new set of Mizuno Wave Elixir 5's in (the black and orange). Loved the Wave Elixir 4's. I had gotten a set of the 5's earlier this year and ran in them for a while (since April). This new set tho I like much better. Don't ask me why, but they just feel nicer. Prob because they're new.

*cough* *cough* *hack* *hack*

OK, so I managed to roll myself off of the sofa and do a little over 7 miles on the treadmill even though all I wanted to do was remain curled up for the rest of the day. It's tough when your head wants to do it but your body just doesn't. And, I'm slightly disappointed because this was supposed to be the weekend I did the full Half Marathon distance before starting my taper down (only 28 days until my first HM! :scared1: ).

But, I will take comfort in the fact that I've done 11 miles once, 10 miles several times, and 8 miles even more times. Most HM training plans only take you up to 10 miles in training anyway. I'm as slow as Christmas and may not make the time cutoff, but I'm relatively certain I can go the distance.

*sigh* OK, enough of my little pity party. I'm going to try to recouperate so I can actually DO the race next month. ;)

You will be fabulous!!! :thumbsup2 may I ask what training plan you are following??

I can't wait to try my new shoes on Tuesday! :thumbsup2 Its like getting a new car or something.. :lmao: the things that excite me now!!

:cool1::cool1:
Had my 1st 10K today! It went well.. I have been doing a modified Galloway R/W thanks to the advice of someone here on the boards. I have been running a mile then walking a minute and my split times and overall time is improving. I ran the 6.2 in 1:08 :thumbsup2 that's around a 10:30 mile.. I am happy with that and most importantly I felt good during and after!! :thumbsup2
Have way to the 1/2!:cool1:

Hope everyone else had a great weekend!!!

That is great. I might try your modified Galloway system. I want to improve my pace.

I decided not to do the 10K yesterday since the day would have been too insane but I just signed up for a 10K for Saturday.
My training this past week has been very strange. I wound up "running" with a friend on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. Monday she found me as I was starting out. We did 3 miles but more walking than I would have liked. Tuesday i did a 2 mile run before we met up and then I did 2 mile with her. Thursday we did about 3.5 miles in an hour. Thing is she is more of a walker than a runner, so if we stop for a walking break it can be hard to start up again running. I have to push both of us. But I still need someone to push me. Only good thing is having someone to run with.
Today was supposed to be my long run day, but do to my girls soccer game I didn't have time to run, maybe it was motivation while I still had time to go running.
Now I have to really plan out my running during the week. Do i go running on Monday, Tuesday (with my friend) and Thursday and race Saturday? Or do I just do Tuesday and Thursday? Then how long should I aim for? I guess I should mention that my longest run so far was 2 weeks ago at 5.5 miles.

I finished my 8K in record time. 1:00:55. I have no idea where it came from but I'm so pleased with myself. I needed the win. I stressed over it all week, probably since it was a "race" and not me against myself. I wasn't last either, there was 7 people behind me!

Enjoy Wine and Dine y'all.

I leave THurs am for WIne/DIne Run...my first 1/2...have been training for a total of 7 weeks...not recommended, I know...lol
I am a walker...have put in abt 115 miles...23.5 since Fri and I am at a 13:10 pace...so I feel good....and I have Runner's Toe..but I kept telling the podiatrist.."I am a Walker!"..lol

Training for this has changed me...I love the feeling of , ugh I cant do this, not a this pace...then I have 8 miles done! Plus all my clothes are fitting MUCH better!! :)

Hi All! Well today was my follow up with the ortho for the results of my MRI and it showed.... nothing. But he, once he felt of my knee and heard my symptoms again, he said it was definately plica, which, as he described it, was like the appendix of your knee. lol. Everyone has it but some people have to evetually have it out. But the good news is, that it doesn't have to come out right now! He acutally said that unless I was in severe pain he recommended waiting- which was a big difference from what his PA had said and a relief to me! He also oked me to continue to continue to train for the half! He said I would eventually reach a level of pain that I couldn't train through and then I would know my limit but until then there was nothing to stop me! I am far from ready for the Princess but intend to continue to train until I find that limit and hope I am able to reach my goal!!!

I'm falling apart! Still fighting this ear/sinus infection, and then pulled a muscle in my back.. and in the middle of it managed to get through my first 15K Saturday. Finished in 1:58, which was pleasing to me. However, during the post race activities my stomach would cramp up whenever I ate anything.. Only lasted for a few hours and then I was fine, but it makes me a bit nervous for wine and dine this weekend.. I've never had tummy troubles before with running, so hopefully it was just a fluke.. or those tacos we had at 2am.. Anywho, safe travels to all those heading this way for the race this weekend!

honeybrook_99 - What great news! Hope the knee feels ok and you can train worry free! :flower3:

Leigh!! What a great run! Glad it was a good race for you!! Good luck this weekend against Bama, hope you guys win!

I know it's a late response, but if you are going to run tomorrow, I would do 3 maybe 4 if you feel comfortable with 4 and won't be sore/tired for the race. Good luck this weekend! :cheer2:

Good luck this weekend at the race! Hope the weather is good and the hurricane/rain people have been talking about is only in the morning, the rain not the hurricane, and you have nice cool non-humid weather at night. Love the toe thing!! :rotfl2:

Glad to hear that you knee MRI went well and you don't need surgery. Interesting about the problem, I have never heard of that or the appendix thingy- guess you do learn something new everyday.

On my side, was set on Saturday night for the 20 the next morning. Then I woke up and had a huge panic attack. Never had one before, I couldn't breath, my stomach was tight, my hands were shaking, it was crazy. I kept thinking there was no way that I could run 20. Then Monday/Tuesday came around and we crazy heat and that made me heat stroky. So this morning came around, and I got up at 3:15 to go and I did it!! Walked way more than I wanted to, but that's okay b/c I got the mileage in. I was so happy, I never in a million years thought I could do it, but I did. Run wise, it wasn't good, it was still warm, and I didn't have good legs. If I didn't have to get that run in, I would have turned around after 3. I was still debating whether to keep going but cut it short at 18, but I kept going. My feet were absolutely killing me. They were rubbing against the bottom of my socks and were/are so agitated then and now. So next long run, have to glide them. Long run wise, no more than 13 this weekend, and maybe middle/end of next week and then really drop down before the race. I feel a little bit more comfortable with the distance. I'm sure race day, nerves and adrenalin will kick in and I'll be fine. Tomorrow is a nice easy 1-2 miler with the pups at the park, just to get the lactic acid out of my legs.

Anyways, hope everyone has a good rest of the week and weekend!

Thanks Lullabee! I so hope you are feeling better and can enjoy the race and the Wine and Dine!! Will be thinking about you but I am sure you will do fab!

Kim! I have had a panic attack before so I KNOW what you are talking about- it is a scary feeling. I am truly in awe of your 20 miler though! Good job- to keep going when you really REALLY don't want to makes the end result even sweeter!

Good luck to everyone running this weekend! I'll be doing a 5k tomorrow to benefit the Wounded Warrior Project.

Add me to the sick list, I'm better but my son has missed/left early 8 days of school. His cough is too loud for him to be in class (according to the school).

I'm hoping that cough is gone before our Disney trip in 11 days.

To prevent the feet rubbing - Wrights Double Layer Coolmax Socks. Not the cheapest out there, not the most expensive, but I've worn them for 2 marathons and several really long runs, no blisters on those runs at all.

Hi everyone. I hope you guys aren't too full for one more! ;)

My name is Tandy and I am a stay at home wife and mother of a 10 yr old son. I've been a fitness runner my whole life, but never run in races. I turned 40 in April, and, to celebrate, ran a half marathon. I didn't realize that I was fast until I got my results. I finished in 1:46 and came in 2nd in my category (of course, the woman that beat me did it in 1:33). I have always wanted to run in Disneyworld, so, after much persueding of hubby, I'm running Goofy this January! I have never run a full, but said what the heck? I need to go back to work soon, so I have more time to train now than I ever will again. I'm on week 2 of training and am already running some decent mileage on those long runs.

So, that's me. :flower3:

Hi Tandy! I'm my name is Kim. I'm doing the full that weekend so I'll be out there with you. Not as fast as you, but I'll be behind you. I want to do goofy eventually, not yet though. Want to get a couple fulls in so I know I'll be okay. Have you guys booked a hotel yet? We're at the POFQ. Welcome to the group.

Matt thanks for the socks- I'll check them out.

Welcome Tandy! Shanonn here. Wow! That's one impressive time for sure! You'll have an amazing time @ the Goofy & this is a great forum to meet lots of new friends, share info, get support & what not. Don't be surprised if you get addicted!

Thanks guys. I've been on here for awhile, and, yes, it's addicting.

Kim: I don't think I'll be that far in front of you. I'm just hoping to finish the full! My fast race will be the half. I'm hoping to at least get my last time, but who knows?

We're staying at Pop. I figured that at least I'll be in the right place for the meet. I couldn't talk hubby into a moderate this time because, truthfully, he doesn't want to go. We were just there this January, so he thinks it's a little excessive! :rolleyes1

I got a short run in today and felt really good. Fastest time yet. My training's been slower than I had hoped, so I was happy to get a fast one in. Tomorrow is 12 miles though, so that'll be much slower!:thumbsup2

After fighing off a flu all week I had the 10K today. I finished in 1:15:11. I had a pace of 12:06. This was my first race.
