DH and I sailed on the Wish this last weekend. We haven't taken a 3-night cruise in years and that was part of a BTB, but we wanted to see the Wish.
Transfers, Boarding and Debarkation
Despite using DCL transfers and being platinum we were in boarding group 4. Boarding started a little late but moved smoothly. We were on a completely full regular coach (Not DCL so no Disney videos) that made 4 stops, arriving at the port at about 10:45. Security and check-in were quick and there was a dedicated platinum check-in line.
Watched the quick welcome show and saw Tiana and Naveen, the couple on the balcony changed throughout the afternoon and included Rapunzel and Flynn and Cinderella and Charming.
Went to do our muster check-in and although it seemed to work fine, later the app said we were incomplete. Tried it again, and finally were checked in on paper by the crew member stationed there. LIke the new muster process very much.
Lined up early at Luna hoping to book Palo brunch, and were first on the waiting list but were never called. We were able to book dinner. Neither had been available on the platinum booking day or at any time when I looked later. The crew member who booked dinner for us indicated this was due to the number of concierge rooms. One concierge member of our FB group stated they were able to book Palo for all 3 nights in advance for a party of 2.
Debarkation was easy and we took a full DCL coach to the airport. All luggage went on the bus, check-in service was not offered.
Stateroom
We had a verandah stateroom just off the forward elevator lobby and this was a nice location. Sleeping Beauty theme. The large TV is nice, but the placement is terrible. The storage is clearly intended for short cruises. The bed was very comfortable. Our hostess was outstanding.
Services
Came from a few nights at WDW so used the laundry room that first afternoon. Huge and convenient.
The app was glitchy and despite being updated, we did not have access to Uncharted Adventures.
The guest services area is poorly designed and we found our interactions there to be rather curt. Used our Disney Rewards card for onboard purchases, but had to return on the last evening for a second transaction as we were told any remaining balance would not automatically be refunded to the card.
Food
The MDRs were fine, nothing great but also nothing terrible. Dinner was in Marvel (the show is a one-and-done for us (and we are Marvel fans) and Arendelle (in a corner by the server station and could not hear well). Lunch in Arrendelle and 1923 (really enjoyed strolling both sides to see all the art)
Marceline Market was breakfast only and we found the aisle between the serving areas and seating areas too narrow. They do not advertise it at all for debarkation breakfast, it is not in the app.
QS - The Cantina is an excellent addition, but we missed an option like's Daisy's for fresh fruit or a salad in the afternoon. No shawarma either. Tried a slice of pizza late on the last night. Better than the classic ships, but still not very good.
Ice Cream - Only had banana on Nassau day, wish that was all the time. Tried Inside Out Sweets, good but not worth the upcharge.
Palo was excellent. We opted for the ala carte and had an 18% service charge on the bill for the meal which included no alcohol, which was new. Not sure if that would have been the case if we went with the $45 prix fixe. We prefer the decor of Palo on the other ships as Palo Steakhouse is very dark.
Shows
Seas the Adventure - very cute and our favorite on the ship. Could easily add some scenes to make it longer. Some of the visuals were not working properly.
Little Mermaid - the cast can really sing, but we did not care for this adaptation.
Aladdin - we did not go as we do not enjoy this show, but I am sure the cast was excellent
Spaces
The Atrium is lovely, but the stage area was underutilized. Love the statue of Cinderella with mice and Lucifer.
Hyperspace Lounge - Interesting but no need to visit multiple times
Hero Zone - nice to see so many table games
Promenade - not enough deck chairs
Pools - maybe we missed one, but we never found any pool that was more than just wading. Nothing you could actually swim in. The area around Chip and Dale was quiet.
Adult deck area - not nearly enough loungers and when we walked the ship early on Nassau morning (8am or so) they were all "claimed" although only 2 people were actually using a lounger. The adult pool is ridiculous, the only positive was the view. The front adult-only sun deck across from Aquamouse had kids on it every time we went by. The whole adult area did not offer enough shaded spots.
Rose - Lovely and great views
Nightingale's - great pianist on our cruise, very relaxing
Keg and Compass - too small and limited sea view
Triton's - too small for family events
Mickey's Mainsail - too small and hard to navigate. Check-our registers should be more spaced out
Luxury stores - too large and we rarely saw anyone in them. Waste of space, but I suppose Disney is getting paid for using the spaces.
Pool deck eateries - so hot and claustrophobic. get your food and eat elsewhere.
Walt Disney Theatre - Lovely, but the seats seemed oddly tilted forward to us.
Luna - this was the biggest disappointment for us. The seating was not very comfortable and the openness to the hall is really problematic after 9. Every night the Crew member hosting the adult events (still no club host, which is a change we really dislike) would have to pause and remind people that the space was for adults only after 9. During 1 activity that lasted about 25 minutes, we got this speech 5 times. They have to have one cruise staff member in the balcony whose sole job seems to be asking children to leave. Due to this, the evening events were not as fun as they have been in the past.
In summary, glad we went, but we won't sail the Wish again.
