WISH Away the Pounds -- Spectacular September Challenge!

Liz, PM me what your husband does specifically. My dh is in IT too and gets recruited a lot. Maybe he has names he can pass along to your dh? He also has some contacts for short term contract work, depending on what your dh can do.

Monday was my official restart. I just have really let things go over the past few months for reasons I don't fully understand. I am at my highest weight ever, and I'm really noticing it these days. I've come up with a plan I think I can use (which, mostly is counting calories and adding exercise) but I have to really put together some successes or I think I'm going to have to start considering weight loss surgery.

Magdalene, yes! We had a cruise booked without the kids that coincided with DH's company going down the drain. We didn't have any official notice that would have kicked in our travel insurance, and it was long paid for (including our on-board credit, which we prepaid to cover our costs), so we just took a deep breath and went. It was a weird vacation because we were pretty stressed out, but we tried to relax as much as we could and treat it like the calm before the storm. And then we hit the ground running when we got home - the company's official shutdown meeting was the day we got back. :/

We are both registered for the Wine & Dine Half in November, and our room is booked through DVC...and our flights are already booked. We're certainly hoping DH has a job by then, but at least we know that trip is already paid for, too. If DH has a job but can't take those three days off as planned, then he'll defer the race entry and I'll go, but hopefully he'll find a job *and* get to run the race as planned.

I had forgotten until these last few weeks how much I tend to eat my stress. Being back here is a Very Good Thing.

XO
Liz

Hope the stress will go away soon! I think you are totally right to not cancel everything and lose the money! You would have to eat something anyway and as long as you don't get crazy on the souvenir side, it is not going to cost that much more than living at home. I am sorry that the cruise was so weird!

I just looked at your signature and realised that you have been on a number of podcast cruises! I listen to the podcast regularly (started in 2008 and caught up with all the episodes) and always loved hearing about those cruises. Not sure I would want to go on one as I would feel too stressed out with all the events. But they do sound fun!

Morning all!! UP and moving fairly slowly. Belly is acting up again. Gurgling throughout the night, but not so nauseous as last time. Trying to keep a better track of what I am eating and when so that maybe I can pinpoint something. Twice when it happened I had eaten ice cream before bed (last week it was a small serving of "real" ice cream, last night it was a WW frozen bar). But I've had ice cream and/or dairy on other nights with no problem.:confused3

Sorry for those tummy issues. I hope you can find a cause! And I think you need to experiment and have some ice cream for breakfast to see if tummy issues then happen during the day!!

My next race is the Sandpoint Scenic Half Marathon 10k. I've done the half marathon before but this will be my first 10k for this race. One of the things I love is that we get to run twice across this bridge over Lake Pend Oreille that is almost 2 miles long!

Wow, seems to be an awesome race!

Sorry for the hungry days, Magdalene. :flower3: That is a lot of activity so it is not surprising that you were hungry. Maybe a little extra protein to help rebuild those muscles that have been working so hard? :confused3

Soups and stews sound yummy as the weather starts to cool down. :cool2: Green chile stew is a favorite of ours and very easy to make. I will post the recipe here and on the recipe thread in the next day or two.

Have you ever tried roasted cauliflower?

I am trying to incorporate more protein in my meals and so far it has really helped to make the hunger manageable. I really really need to watch my protein. I am such a carb eater...

Looking forward to your recipe! I wanted to start experimenting with recipes for filled vegetables (bell peppers, egg plants) and when I find something good, I will post to the recipe thread!

In case you were wondering, 21 years is the park hopper anniversary! :groom::bride: We got our tickets for our WDW trip in November for our gift to one another. :rotfl:

Haha!!! :lmao: But with the current park hopper prices those are for sure nearly as precious as silver! :thumbsup2

Good luck with the restart!! I hope you are going to see the results you are hoping for, but don't feel like you have been defeated if you go the route of weight loss surgery. I think many people think it is the "easy way out" or "cheating", but from everything I know about it, it is still hard work to get the results, it just is an additional help. And it is great that this option does exist!

:woohoo: on the Dumbo Double Dare and your Coast-to-Coast! :cool1: I would love to hear more about your races if you would like to share. :flower3:

Sure!! I was originally "just" signed up for the Dumbo Double Dare but lucked into a bib for the 5K and had a lot of fun running that with a friend. The Disneyland races are so different from WDW! It was amazing to be able to roll out of bed, get ready, and walk to the corrals instead of having to get that dreaded 3am bus.

The 5K was all parks all the time, and on through Downtown Disney to finish. I had breakfast with friends at Goofy's Kitchen that morning, and I was not exactly careful about my food intake - I was so hungry a couple of hours after finishing the 5K!

The 10K was also a ton of park time, not a lot of characters (seeing Elvis Stitch was a highlight, though). The half marathon went through the parks first and then out into Anaheim. As a major baseball fan, I really loved running through Angels stadium - the one picture I stopped for on the whole course! The crazy thing on that one was that, right after the 1 mile marker, you went by the 12-mile marker because of the way the course loops at the end. Evil! I think they should have put the 12-mile marker up after the last corral went through. ;)

It was really warm but not crazy for running, and the cloud cover hung around on Sunday until I was past the 10-mile mark, at least. I didn't finish with my best time, but with three races on back-to-back days, I didn't expect to...my real goal was to finish upright and not in pain. I did that, but I also donated $5 for a wonderful massage at the massage tent! Best money I spent all weekend.

I think my favorite parts were running through Angels Stadium and through California Adventure with the World of Color fountains going - they were so beautiful pre-dawn!

Liz, PM me what your husband does specifically. My dh is in IT too and gets recruited a lot. Maybe he has names he can pass along to your dh? He also has some contacts for short term contract work, depending on what your dh can do.

Thanks, Jamie! PM sent, and I copied DH, too, as he's also on the boards. He's a bigger Disney nut than I am, if that's possible. ;)

They were a blast! I wish we could go on the one this fall, but even before our current financial constraints, the timing was never going to work well for us. DH and I have been on the podcast a couple of times and really loved the experience - the team is just wonderful. DH was the one listening originally, and then he got me hooked (sensing a theme here?). I look forward to them every week!

And the events are optional - there were definitely people on the podcast cruise who only went to the podcast taping, if that. No-one checks you off a list, but you get the benefit of the little perks that come with booking the podcast cruise... :)

Done, Buffy, and thanks!!

Day one of being back on the wagon (foodwise) is in the books. I feel a bit like I want to eat everything, so I think I'll go to bed. :)

I just got home from rehearsal with my new (to me) chorale. This is the semi-pro group I auditioned for last spring. It's so hard and so fun - I am loving it! Our first concert of the season is in four weeks. And we learned tonight that the National Symphony Orchestra has invited us to perform with them in February. At the (omgomgomg) Kennedy Center. !! There are a few moving parts before this is finalized, but I'm pretty sure our conductor would move mountains to make this happen. Woo!

XO
Liz

Sent from my iPhone using DISBoards

Not sure how I missed this yesterday, but WOW! I used to sing and it made me realize that I miss it when I read your story. The Kennedy Center would certainly be a feather in your cap!!

Good morning, friends!

Still on track - Tuesdays are my crazy early commuting days, and I grabbed a banana when I first left and then had a Luna bar on my way to the office. Lunch today is on someone else (woo!), and I've advance scouted the menu and have a good idea of what I should order to stay on plan today. I am determined...

Good for you for checking ahead of time!!:thumbsup2

Prayers continuing for the job search!! And WOOHOO on the bolded parts!

I hope your new "experiment" helps - I can never stop my nighttime snacking, so I'm always impressed when others are able to minimize or stop evening snacking. Keep us updated on how it works out!

Nighttime snacking is TRULY the one area of my eating that I haven't been able to get a FIRM grip on. Instead I have learned to save my PPV/calories for the end of the day.... and that isn't a good idea. Sometimes I have more PPV left after dinner than what I spent on dinner!! So I feel free to "splurge" and end up eating a larger "snack" at night than any other meal all day! Bad plan, even if I DO stick within my PPV/calorie target.

As for me ... I'm pretty groggy today. I had coffee Sunday & yesterday, so I'm trying not to have coffee today (I don't like to have coffee every day), but I may have to just to clear the fog from my brain.
We've got primary elections here today, but I don't know if I'm going to vote because I'm just annoyed with all of the candidates. If I do go out, I have another errand to run ... but today may just be one of those days where I end up in my pajamas in front of the TV all day. Oh well, I'm entitled to a day off every once in a while.

I hope everyone has a great day!

Hope you enjoyed your day.

Sorry that the tummy is still upset. Hope you start to feel better soon. I'm sure it takes awhile for everything to get back in balance again. :flower3: Do you have any probiotics?

No probiotics, but I am definitely looking into them. I've looked into them before for DS and if I can find some that I think TRULY do what they claim they do (so many that are sold are essentially "dead" and don't really help), I will definitely give them a try. DH does a lot of reading on vitamins and supplements, so I'm asking him to look into it for me.

My next race is the Sandpoint Scenic Half Marathon 10k. I've done the half marathon before but this will be my first 10k for this race. One of the things I love is that we get to run twice across this bridge over Lake Pend Oreille that is almost 2 miles long!

Oh my!!! That is gorgeous!!

And in October I am doing another local 10k and two of my WISH friends who I met right here on the disboards are coming to visit and run with me. :yay:

That is great!!

Yay.... new recipe!!!!!!

Have you ever tried roasted cauliflower?

DOUBLE YUM!!

This is the second time that I've done this post. DH used the computer and poofed the first one. :headache: Good thing for him it is our anniversary this week. In case you were wondering, 21 years is the park hopper anniversary! :groom::bride: We got our tickets for our WDW trip in November for our gift to one another. :rotfl:

Wish I had known that! What Disney-related gift is there for 23 years???

I've come up with a plan I think I can use (which, mostly is counting calories and adding exercise) but I have to really put together some successes or I think I'm going to have to start considering weight loss surgery.

You CAN do this!! Get ready for Monday by cleaning out the kitchen of empty calorie temptations. Make sure you have some comfortable, broken-in sneakers. Plan a week's worth of HEALTHY, OP meals and have everything ready to make them. Decide ahead of time what your "go to" OP breakfasts will be. Make a SCHEDULE for your workouts. Be ready to track your foods. Pick out your favorite water bottle and get ready to use it. Start thinking about what little changes you can make EVERY DAY to get you moving in the right direction. And of COURSE, stick here with us!! We are here to help, support, encourage, and motivate you!!!

**************************

Morning all! Well, I did have a snack last night after dinner, but not a huge one.... but Tuesday nights are tough, since I get home from my WW meeting very hungry. I ate the overnight oats I had left in the fridge for dinner PLUS a half a banana for dinner. Not too bad. And I ate my snack (decaf with skim and a biscotti... 2 PPV I think, but I need to double check). by 8:15 pm, so that is some progress.

Woke up feeling very hungry which quickly progressed to feeling nauseous. But thankfully the worst of the nausea didn't linger much. I ate my breakfast after dropping DS at school and then added a Vitamuffin to increase the PPV at least a little. I am just such a creature of habit with regards to my breakfast! And this nausea makes it so that only a few things are really appealing, which limits what I want to eat. Not bad if you are trying to lose I suppose!:thumbsup2

I will probably go out for a few groceries today so that I can make the freezer meals that I am taking to Nantucket this weekend AND so I can make up some meals to leave for my men. Just need to finalize the meal plans and make the list. It is sprinkling so far today, so we probably won't be doing any yard work, at least for now.

Hope everyone is doing great! This week's WW topic is RESTARTS and it seems like many folks are ready to push the "restart" button after being away from this journey or after not making much progress over the summer! I'd love to talk more with everyone about how to do a "restart" and what a RESTART looks like to you!

:woohoo: for a restart! This time of year a lot of us are rebooting our healthy lifestyles. ::yes:: Good luck -- you can do this! :cheer2:

I am trying to incorporate more protein in my meals and so far it has really helped to make the hunger manageable. I really really need to watch my protein. I am such a carb eater...

Me, too! :flower3:

Here is the green chile stew recipe. It is from the restaurant where we had our wedding reception -- 21 years ago today. :bride::groom:

RANCHO DE CHIMAYO GREEN CHILE STEW

Serves 8.

• 1 1/2 lb. beef stew meat, pork or chicken, cut in 1/2 -in. pieces

• 1/4 c. oil

• 2 onions, diced

• 4 c. chicken or beef stock

• 2 tsp. salt

• 4 potatoes, cubed (I substitute 2 cans of posole aka hominy drained)

• 1 red bell pepper, diced

• 2 garlic cloves, minced

• 3 c. chopped roasted green chiles (canned are fine but if you have fresh roasted it is even better)

• 2 tbsp. cilantro, or more to taste

Directions

Brown meat in oil in large saucepan. Add onions and continue to cook until onions are brown on edges. Add stock and salt; bring to boil. Add potatoes and simmer 1 to 2 hours.

Add bell peppers and garlic. Cook for another 30 minutes. Add green chile and cilantro and cook another 15 to 20 minutes.

Variations: Add any or all, to taste: posole, pinto beans, corn, tomatoes, chipotles en adobo and crushed coriander seed.

I just toss everything in after the meat is browned so the green chile flavor is there throughout cooking. Enjoy!

Sounds like a really fun race, Liz! :cool2: I really do love the DL races so much more than WDW even if it is more street running -- but then I grew up in Anaheim. "Just" the Dumbo is like "just" the marathon for WDW week-end -- every race is an accomplishment! :yay: pixiedust: that DH's dream job is just around the corner for you all!

I've had a good "restart" week myself here -- down 2.5 pounds more for a total of 3.5! :woohoo: Now I need to keep the momentum for the rest of the month! ::yes::

I definitely want to try this, but you know I only like "mild" so do the chilis make it spicy???

***************************

Morning all! Tummy is so-so this morning, but I was pretty hungry, so maybe that was part of it.

I had a victory last night with my evening snacking. I had a light beer for my evening snack and nothing to eat with it. (I know, beer probably isn't the best choice with my tummy issues, but I really like beer and it was a cold treat after a hard day's work outside!) I had my light-ish dinner (double veggie burger on a Sandwich Thin with a shmear of Laughing Cow cheese, tomato slice, and pickles with a side of roasted carrots) and my light beer, all by 8pm and called it a night. I consider that a victory for now.

Never made it to the market yesterday, since the weather turned out nice and we stayed outside working until we could barely stand up! So we are off to the market today.... DH needs to pick up his car in the shop, so he will come along with me....not sure I want him at the market, but I'll make him help and try to minimize the "extras" he is prone to throwing in the cart~!

I have three recipes I plan to make when I get home from the market..... and I'll make double batches (at least) of all three so I can throw some in the freezer.

Need to go eat a piece of fruit or something to bulk up my breakfast.... this "bigger breakfast" idea is taking some getting used to!!

TTYL..........................P

I definitely want to try this, but you know I only like "mild" so do the chilis make it spicy???

The canned chilis that you get in the store are usually mild and add flavor but not heat. I'm sure with your tummy feeling bad that spicy does not sound good at all. :flower3:

Need to go eat a piece of fruit or something to bulk up my breakfast.... this "bigger breakfast" idea is taking some getting used to!!

Or maybe even a piece of laughing cow cheese or a few nuts? :confused3

Got a lot of catching up to do. Seems a chatty week. :) I've been feeling blah and having a rough TOM visit. Should be on to the easier part of this cycle today.

I can't seem to keep up tracking food now. I passed over buying ice cream and candy even though I know my brother would have liked some. I don't need that stuff around when I'm trying to avoid it. We have some but my tummy has been upset so I haven't had all that much trouble avoiding it the past couple days. We have a supply of popsicles which are nice treat after a hot day.

Just sipping my green tea. I finally remembered to pick up some more and so far loving the flavor I tried first. Ate breakfast at 10 but its a start on getting back to a more normal living sleep pattern. I got some melatonin to help get us both back to a regular schedule. My dd just has soooo many problems falling asleep but they do seem to help her. We need to get out in sun more I'm sure.

Yeah chilis are usually quite mild when cooked and deseeded anyway. The canned usually have no seeds which is why they can be mild. But the fresh ones come in mild and hot too. I use a combination of canned and fresh ones. I used canned often when making homemade salsa. I've used fresh before too but for ease I used 2-3 canes tomatoes, 1 can of green chile and 1 onion chopped then sprinkle in fresh chopped cilantro. So yummy. I will have to try that recipe though. Sounds pretty good.

Happy Friday everyone! The weekend is nearly here! :cool1:

I forgot to step on the scale this morning, but it looks like my weight is slowly creeping down. Not as fast as I would like though. I had a very active week, on Wednesday I managed to get over 22000 steps! It included a very fast (for me) 30 minute run with a speed of 7 min/km. That was encouraging as the last two runs I felt so slow!

Eating is more difficult. I am eating some of my extra points that I earned through activity, but I still think that there is something wrong with how the fitbit sends its data on to WW as I supposedly earned 79 activity points and if I would eat all of those, I would gain weight! I am losing slowly enough as is. I try to eat only about 3-5 extra points per day and that seems to work to keep me from being overly hungry. I have also added in a lot of protein. The other day I even had a dinner which was just extra lean beef and veggies and I found it satisfying without adding in any starchy side dish.

got a chance to read last night on my phone and catch up; didn't have the patience to type a reply on that tiny keyboard

I actually did my WI yesterday and I was down another pound! yes!!!!

Lisa that recipe looks awesome, we will be trying it! we love green chiles in the can, they are so flavorful! and we love cilantro!

off to yoga

Hello all! This may be my first post on this thread... Either way, I took a quick trip H*O*ME this past weekend and ended up a pound lighter by the end of this week.

I have 4.4 pounds left to go for the month of September. I am running the TOT 10 Miler on Oct 4 and figure I might feel a little better to shed a couple extra pounds. :goodvibes

That sounds amazing! Now I want to do a DL race - I was afraid of trying one because I thought the running on the street would diminish the experience, but I love the idea of running through Angel Stadium.
Of course, I should probably get through my 5K in February before I start getting ideas...

A friendly reminder that tomorrow is weigh in day! :goodvibes

I needed that reminder! I've been losing track of my days this week. I'll weigh in and send it to you in a little bit!

Yay! That's absolutely a victory - and a great one!

I hear that ... my idea of a bigger breakfast is a bigger cup of coffee! It's hard to make breakfast bigger, but a lot of people swear by it once they try it!

I'm having the same problem ... can't keep up with my tracking. It's good that you passed over buying stuff you want to avoid!

People have recommended melatonin to me, but I still haven't tried. I'm interested to see how it works out for you!

WooHoo!

I find that fitbit always overestimates how many calories I should eat, so I wouldn't be surprised if it's overestimating your activity points. I try to use their recommendations as a guideline, but still stick to what feels comfortable - even when I'm very active, I try not to eat as much as they tell me I can because it just seems like too much.

---

Happy Friday, all! I'm getting a kind of late start to my day (feels weird to be saying that at 9AM, but I've been either out running or eating breakfast by now every day this week). Friday is cleaning day in my house, so after breakfast, I'll be like Cinderella ... washing the dishes and doing the mopping and the sweeping and the dusting.

Have a great weekend, everyone!

Hi friends! I think I can thank a little tummy bug for a piece of this, but still...down SIX this week. ?!?!?!

I ran yesterday morning, and it wasn't a good one - and then I just felt awful the rest of the day. Stomach cramps, general malaise, you name it. I'm thinking it had to be a bug of some kind.

I felt much better after sleeping most of the afternoon, but I'm guessing some of this week's loss is due to that bump in the road. We'll see what happens after I get back to eating like normal people. :)

Wishing you all awesome WIs today!

XO
Liz

Happy Friday all! I did not forget about posting today's Musings but had a few issues at home this morning and ran out of time. Then hot to work here but no computer access! So I'll post later today! TTYL.......P

Happy Friday Everyone!! Here is your WELLNESS WEEKEND musing for 9/12/14: (And yes, I am totally stealing some of this from WW.... there has to be SOME benefit of being a leader!)

If you could re-do this week, what would you delete? What would you repeat?

What was worth repeating and how can you work on having more behavior that is worth REPEATING??

:goodvibes

WELCOME, WELCOME, WELCOME!!! Feel free to introduce yourself!

***********************

Hey all.... sorry that the "Wellness Weekend" post was so tardy.... I was making my smoothie this morning with the intention of sitting to drink it while I posted, but I had trouble getting my frozen stuff to get going in the blender and ended up making a big mess (on my shoes, on my skirt, on the floor), plus it took me FOREVER to get my smoothie done! Lesson learned! Vitamix is GREAT, but add the frozen stuff a little at a time and use more liquid!

Had a little loss myself this week.... not nearly as much as I thought I might, considering I worked my behind off in the yard and ate RIGHT on target, but a loss is a loss and I'll take it. Off to PM my numbers in and get my suitcase packed for my weekend on Nantucket.................P

Have a great weekend Pam!

WW question:

I would love to repeat my Wednesday run! I felt great, I was fast, the weather was perfect! And I would love to undo the gummy bears I have been munching on over the course of the week (not a whole great many, but still too many!).

What was worth repeating and how can you work on having more behavior that is worth REPEATING??

I would delete the 8 cookies or so I had when I wasn't hungry.
I would absolutely repeat my 2 walk/runs (both were great but not perfect), and the apple muffins & granola that I baked (so nice to have healthier snacks around that I made myself).

I was going to say that I need to stop snacking so much, but since that's difficult ... I need to take more control of my snacks. If I want a cookie, I can bake a batch of healthier cookies, and that way I know what I'm eating. If I'm going to eat anyway, I want a healthy alternative to the junk that the rest of my family eats.
I also need to repeat my healthy behaviors - I'm on a streak of at least 5 or 6 weeks of running twice a week, and as the weather gets cooler, I need to make more of an effort to go out and do it (I already run in long sleeves, so once the weather starts to get cold, I'll have to get some more layers to wear)

Check out our great results and beautiful :rainbow:

Keep up the good work! Lots of time to make great progress this month! :thumbsup2

Yes, you are fortunate that you live in a place where could get some delicious Hatch chiles. I do the canned tomatoes, too. In fact we are having Green Chile Stew for dinner tonight! Maybe it is cooling off enough for this to sound good to you too. ;)

Great run, Magdalene! :cool2: It is nice when you have a great run. ::yes::

Wowza on the APs! You are getting a lot of activity. I would compare the FitBit to the APs you would earn on paper just as an extra check. You might be on to something with the fact that you may need to use more points. Pamela, can tell us more but I've read that you have to burn 80 calories to earn an AP and a point is about 40 calories so even if you ate your activity points there is still a deficient. But 79 would be too much for sure! :thumbsup2

got a chance to read last night on my phone and catch up; didn't have the patience to type a reply on that tiny keyboard

I actually did my WI yesterday and I was down another pound! yes!!!!

Lisa that recipe looks awesome, we will be trying it! we love green chiles in the can, they are so flavorful! and we love cilantro!

off to yoga

:woohoo: for another pound, Molli! :yay: Hope you had fun at yoga! :hippie:

:woohoo: for a loss while you were travelling! :yay: And a double :woohoo: for your first post! :cool2:

ToT looks like a really fun run and the bling is da bomb! :thumbsup2

That sounds amazing! Now I want to do a DL race - I was afraid of trying one because I thought the running on the street would diminish the experience, but I love the idea of running through Angel Stadium.
Of course, I should probably get through my 5K in February before I start getting ideas...

The people of Anaheim really put on a good show on the streets for the DL races -- there are way more folks out there cheering for you than there are in a WDW race where there are long stretches with no one but the other racers. And, of course, you would want to get your Coast-to-Coast medal! :cool2:

One step at a time -- one race at a time! princess:

My redo for this week would be deleting the OP eating I did last week-end and the repeat would be the OP eating I did for the rest of the week! :goodvibes:

:woohoo: for a loss this week, Pamela! Sorry for the smoothie snafu. :flower3: And no worries on the musings -- it's a week-end question. Enjoy your week-end!

Have a great weekend Pam!

WW question:

I would love to repeat my Wednesday run! I felt great, I was fast, the weather was perfect! And I would love to undo the gummy bears I have been munching on over the course of the week (not a whole great many, but still too many!).

Munching on healthier alternatives is much easier said than done for sure! ::yes::

I would delete the 8 cookies or so I had when I wasn't hungry.

Definitely focusing on repeating healthy behaviors is the way to go! :thumbsup2

It is in the 40's here this morning and I had to break out the running jacket and some mittens -- I'm keeping my running skirt for now though! princess:

Have a great week-end all!
