WISH Away The Pounds No Excuses in November Challenge - Everyone Welcome!

Good Sunday afternoon. It has been pretty quiet here today. I was going to post a question before but I got sidetracked .

So far this morning I have been to church, grocery shopping and helped sew some costumes for a couple of hours. Now I think I will sit and knit for a while and maybe quilt for a while later.

You had a busy morning!

Question of the Day

If you could spend 24 hours in all of the parks, would you and what would you do?

Have a happy and healthy day.

I'd have to see the schedule and start at the park that had the morning EMH and end with the park that closed the latest, to maximize my day. If the schedules were all the say I would start at AK (Safari first!) and end my day with WISHES at the MK. I would probably follow AK with DHS and get in a ride on both ToT and RnR before heading to Epcot. Hopefully it would be lunch time by then so that WS was open.... but of course, have to hit Soarin' first!!

There was a story on (I think) allears.net a few months ago about a family that hit all 6 US major parks in a 24 hour period! Isn't that crazy?? It sounds like a wild adventure and I think I MIGHT like the chance to try it some time!

Actually, here is a link if you want to read it!

Quiet day here today!

I've got a new recipe for mulligitawny soup bubbling away in the crockpot. It contains an odd mix of ingredients, but so far it smells delightful. If it is a success, I'll come back and post the recipe....................P

The recipe was a winner! We finished off the entire crockpot! Here is a link to the recipe thread where I am posting the full recipe!!

http://disboards.com/showpost.php?p... be exhausted, very full, and very happy. :p

So sorry to hear this news... really reminds you how precious life is! My heart goes out to all the families effected by this tragedy.

Thank you for your thoughts.

So sorry to hear about this tragedy, Jill. It's going to be tough when you go back to school I am sure.

Happy Sunday!

Thank you for your thoughts. It's going to be a rough week ahead.

So so sorry for those families and for your town(s). What a horrible, senseless tragedy. As a parents of kids that age, it literally makes me ill to think about what those families and friends are going through right now. :grouphug:

Thank you for your thoughts.

******************************

Morning all!

Stomach seems to be improving but still having some issues. Switched out this morning's planned egg breakfast for greek yogurt with fruit. Thought that would help the tummy. Planned to wash sheets and hang them out, but this morning's rain/snow mixture changed that plan, although the sun is making an brief appearance right now. Also had plans to patch the pool today before it freezes for the season and to cut up the trees we took down yesterday to burn in the yard tonight... but that will depend on the weather and my stomach.

No school here tomorrow. My local Saver's (thrift store) is having 50% off of a bunch of stuff, so if I feel up to it I may head there in the morning. I've been making a list of stuff we NEED (yes NEED, not want.... too much junk in this house already), but not sure if I feel like making the drive. What I should be doing is cleaning the basement and making a big DONATION rather than a purchase! :lmao:

Off to remind DS to empty the dishwasher! TTYL.....................P

I'm glad you're feeling better! I hope you got lots of things done today. If you are feeling better, I think you should head to the store. That's a great deal and you never know what you'll come across. Either way, have a great day.

Question of the Day

If you could spend 24 hours in all of the parks, would you and what would you do?

Have a happy and healthy day.

I'm a little older now, and don't know if I'd last 24 hours, but I sure would try. I think I would actually spend the time relaxing and taking in all the small things at each park. Sometimes we are rushing to do as much as we can, we miss the little things. I am ashamed to say that we have never stopped at the American Pavilion in World Showcase, never done the drawing class at HS, never walked all the trails at AK, and never just took in all the shops on Main Street. There are things at each park that I would love to do that do not involve rides! That would be my 24 hours.

Good evening. I'm hoping all the Wine N Diners had a great time!

I am feeling much better today, thanks again for letting me share the terrible news. Some positive news today...the 12 year old boy did not have 2 broken femurs and is doing well. The 2 others are doing better. The one does have broken femurs and arms. His twin brother has broken bones as well. They are all expected to make full recoveries. There was a candlelight vigil at our football stadium tonight (which I did not attend) but was attended by many people from the whole area. It'll be a rough week with the funerals, but the community has come together and will move forward. I am very proud to live in this town and thankful for all the thoughts and prayers for these families and the students and staff at our schools.

Moving along now...my weigh in this week was great. I lost one pound last week. Unfortunately, stress got the best of me and I ate too many carbs this weekend. I have a plan of action for tomorrow and hopefully I can lose the 3 pounds I gained since Friday! Yikes! Oh, and it didn't help that I did not work out Thursday, Friday, or Saturday :(

My cousin texted me this afternoon. He is 8 years older than me. He wanted to know if my family was doing our Thanksgiving day 5k. I told him that I was planning to run/walk and he decided he wants to walk it. He has bad knees, so he's a biker not a runner. I told him that I would just walk with him because it would be so much more fun to walk with him than to run alone. Then DSis decided it would be super fun and she decided to join us. THEN DS10 decided he would do it again since we weren't running the whole thing like last year. So, my party of 1 turned into a party of 4 :) I am so excited! I asked DS7 if he wanted to walk with us (he LOVES my older cousin) and he said yes...for about 5 seconds. Then said no way lol. DH hates running or walking (he averages about 10 miles a night at work in the ER and hospital and doesn't want to walk any more than that lol), so he said no way as well. DNephew and friends will run their super fast Cross Country speed and finish before we even hit the 2 mile mark lol. It should be a fun time.

Ok, I am all caught up and talked out :) I still have a few papers to grade and I have to get lunches packed for tomorrow. Have a great week.

Jill

Glad you heard some good news about the boys in the accident.

How exciting to have company on your Thanksgiving day walk/run. That will make it more fun!

I can't help but notice that our thread is getting a tad quiet lately. It's a busy time of year, there are lots of temptations, and it's cold and the days are short. It's tough to maintain that focus and motivation that you need to continue your healthy lifestyle success. ::yes::

So I'm going to share a little article with you from sparkpeople.com called
5 Signs It's Time to Get Serious about Weight Loss
The Time to Commit to Losing Weight is Now

It's easy to say that you want to lose weight. It's also easy to find the motivation to hit the gym regularly and choose the right foods in the beginning. After a few weeks, our motivation seems to wane and those old, unhealthy habits of yours start to creep back in. What seemed so easy at first is now difficult. You have cravings. You're tired. You miss those social dinners with your friends and doughnuts at the office. That 6 a.m. aerobics class doesn't seem as fun, and getting up without hitting the snooze button seems impossible.

Sound familiar? So many of us have fallen into this yo-yo diet and exercise trap over the years. You decide you want to lose weight, start a program, and even start to see some results and then…life gets in the way. Before you know it, you're off your healthy living plan again. While you have the tools and resources that make weight loss fun and uplifting—a true lifestyle change—you still need to commit to using them. You have to commit now and, well, forever. You have to choose to change your life, both when life is breezy and when things aren't going your way. Whether you have 5 pounds or 150 pounds to lose, you have to get serious if you're ever going to reach your goals.

So how do you know if it's time to get real? How do you know if you're committed to your weight-loss efforts this time around? If any of the five signs below sound like you, then you aren't 100% committed to getting healthy. (Don't worry; we'll help you get there!)

5 Signs It's Time to Get Real about Weight Loss

Sign #1: You keep waiting to start.
If you really want or need to lose weight but keep putting it off until tomorrow, next week, or even later in the future, you're not serious about weight loss. There is no perfect time to lose weight; you'll always have to deal with stress and work and LIFE, and there's no better way to get started than to jump right in today. Don't put off getting healthy for another day. Get healthy now. Why waste another day? Right this second you can start improving your health by doing something as simple as going for a short walk, choosing the stairs over the elevator or even looking up the online menu of the restaurant you're going to tonight and ordering a healthy dish. There's no time like the present. Your life starts now!

Stop putting it off: Tell a loved one that you're committed to changing your life and losing weight the right way. Then write down three simple things that you can do TODAY to be healthier, such as drinking a glass of water, walking around the block once or eating two fewer bites than you normally would. By sharing your goals, you'll stay accountable and by starting small, you'll build momentum to make more changes.

Sign #2: You can't do the things you want to do.
Did you once love to travel, but now have problems fitting in the airplane seat? Can you no longer play tag or run around with your kids? Does dancing with your friends or walking up a flight of stairs leave you winded? If you can no longer do what you need to do (walk without discomfort, take the stairs) or want to do (visit an amusement park, buy new clothes off the rack), it's time to get serious. With regular exercise and some simple food swaps, you can be back to your usual self and live your dreams.

Focus on functionality: For motivation, make a list of the things you want to do but can't do comfortably (or at all) right now. Weight loss isn't just about wearing smaller pants size; it will help you live the life you want. Your motivation can come from the list you made—all of your goals and dreams, both big and small. Then, with your doctor's blessing, begin a functional fitness program today. Go for regular walks to improve your cardiovascular fitness, and try these exercises to help make your everyday activities easier to do. Before you know it, the pounds will drop, but more importantly, you'll be able to do all the things you love to do.

Sign #3: You're facing chronic health issues.
Being overweight or obese puts a huge strain on your body and increases your risk for many chronic health problems, including type 2 diabetes, coronary heart disease and stroke, metabolic syndrome, certain types of cancers, sleep apnea, osteoarthritis, gallbladder disease, fatty liver disease, pregnancy complications and premature death. Many of these conditions don't exhibit any symptoms, but that doesn't mean you haven't started developing them just because a doctor hasn't made a diagnosis yet. If any of these conditions run in your family or you know that you're at risk due to your weight or lifestyle, see a doctor right away. You can no longer treat weight-loss as an option. It's a necessity for you to save your own life.

Live longer and healthier: If you haven't had a physical in the last year, schedule one with your doctor today. If you do have any health issues, seek treatment and ask the doctor what types of physical activity you can do and if there are any dietary restrictions. Once your doctor has given the OK, get started with SparkPeople's beginner's exercise safety tips and start making healthier food choices to get on the road to a healthier you.

Sign #4: You give up easily.
Do you throw in the weight-loss towel after you eat a cookie or miss a single workout? Then you need to get real and learn to forgive yourself. Health and weight issues don't result from one small mistake during a 24-hour period; it's what you do day after day, time after time that really counts. You don't have to be perfect, but you do have to be consistent. So stop beating yourself up for every mistake. We all make them! It's what you do next that matters. Commit to making healthy choices most of the time, and you will reach your goals!

Get back on track: Promise that you'll be kind to yourself when you do slip up, and create a get-back-on-track plan. If you're not sure where to start, try one of these tips!

Sign #5: You're envious of others who have lost weight.
If you feel self-conscious about your body and size around others or feel extremely jealous of other people who have lost weight, then it's time for you to focus your energies on your own self-improvement. These feelings may signal something deeper that needs your attention. As you might guess, weight-loss isn't just about choosing to eat right and exercise. Many times, it's also about having the self-worth to make a change and believing that you deserve to do something positive for yourself!

Make yourself a priority: Stop comparing yourself to others. Everyone's journey and circumstances are different. So instead of wondering why you weren't blessed with a faster metabolism like your co-worker was, focus on what you love about yourself. The next time you become envious or self-conscious, remind yourself that you deserve good things in life, too, so commit to make healthy choices. Weight loss isn't a weakness, a desire to conform, or a sign that you're not awesome just the way you are. Every person is worthy of love, respect and self-care—and maintaining a healthy weight is part of that.

Losing weight is hard work, but the change begins with you and it starts right now. If any of these signs describe you, it's time to stop talking about weight loss and commit to it.

Which leads me to the QOTD Monday, November 11, 2013: Do you feel like you are as serious about your healthy lifestyle as you need to be or do you feel like it could use a little improvement? If so, what can you strive for to get yourself where you need to be? It can be one of the ideas from the article or something else.

I'm anxious to hear how our W&D racers did this week-end! :yay:

Pamela, hope that you are feeling better today! :flower3: And your menfolk will not starve if left to fend for themselves for a day or two. ;)

Good Sunday afternoon. It has been pretty quiet here today. I was going to post a question before but I got sidetracked .

Question of the Day

If you could spend 24 hours in all of the parks, would you and what would you do?

Have a happy and healthy day.

Thanks for coaching, Dona, hope that you enjoyed your long week-end. :cool2:

I would love to shot for all six US parks in one day some time, as Pamela suggested. That would make that crazy long flight between this side of the country and WDW a lot more tolerable. :lmao: I think it would be fun to do all four parks at WDW in one day some time, too. I really love park hopping at DLR and park hop all the time at WDW.

I'm going to base my answer as if all parks are open during these 24 hours. :)

Since I'm more of a morning person, I'd get a very good night's sleep, then start my 24 hours at 6:00 AM at AK- it would still be dark, and I've never been to AK in the dark. After riding the safari and EE, I'd make my way to the MK for breakfast, then take in several attractions there (Space Mountain, POTC, Splash Mountain, BTMRR). I'd then go to DHS for lunch at the Brown Derby (I've always wanted to eat there), then I'd go watch Muppet Vision 3D, then ride RnRC and ToT. I absolutely love ToT, so I'd probably ride it 3 times. :) Then I'd take a boat to the BC/YC and have a cocktail there before walking to EPCOT. I'd probably skip all of Future World and just stay in World Showcase for the next 12 hours, eating a bit here and there in the different pavilions, watching movies when I'd need a rest. At 6:00 AM the next day, I would be exhausted, very full, and very happy. :p

Sounds like a great day! :cool2:

My cousin texted me this afternoon. He is 8 years older than me. He wanted to know if my family was doing our Thanksgiving day 5k. I told him that I was planning to run/walk and he decided he wants to walk it. He has bad knees, so he's a biker not a runner. Sounds like a fun time, Jill! That is great you inspired so many of your family members to join you. :cool2: Plus thanks to the folks who are passing, there will be plenty of people to take care of all the cooking and prep while you are out being healthy. :thumbsup2

I kind of thought the QOTD would be here, but I guess not yet.

Sorry I was poky. When I went to post yesterday people had not had much of a chance to answer Dona's question so I decided to wait. :flower3:

I had a good WI at my different WW meeting on Saturday and am now down to my lowest weight of the year so far. :cool2: It was interesting see another leader. It is good to have a backup for those days I can't make my regular meeting.

And I am very happy to report that I saw a new chiropractor last week and even after one adjustment I can tell that I finally going to find my running mojo again here very soon! :yay: I did 75 minutes on Saturday and that is the longest workout I've been able to do since August. So I am raring to go and have a great week!

Hi everyone!!

I missed you all - but the last 10 days or so have been so busy with the move! And work on top of that... :crazy2:

I hope I got through all the stress (oh and my birthday :goodvibes) without too much damage. At least I feel like I did get quite some exercise with packing and unpacking and sorting through things. I have unpacked all the boxes, but things still need to be sorted more and so on. At least the new place looks like a home again! And a lovely one that I am very happy about!

I am really looking forward to having my kitchen back so that I can get back into a healthy eating routine. Also need to find a new exercise routine as I no longer can walk to work. I can bike, but currently my bike's light is not working properly and it is already dark when I get home from work. So currently I am taking the train home. I guess I need to go running more regularly again!! Need to figure out new running routes from the new place...

I had a lovely non scale victory last week - on my birthday on top! I was browsing a store as I need new pants. My old ones literally fell apart. I did not find the type that I wanted, but saw a very lovely pant suit for the office. And tried it on for fun. It turned out that the size 8 pants did fit very well! And then I tried on the matching jacket and looked at myself and nearly did not recognize myself. I always thought that pant suits did not fit me very well, they made me look boxy and fat. But this one made me look tall and slim! :thumbsup2 I liked it so much that I nearly bought it (would not have been wise since there are lots of expenses with the move this month...). In the evening I had dinner with a very good friend and I told her about it. And her comment was that she was not surprised because I do look tall and slim and that one can really tell that I lost quite a lot of weight! She knows about my weight loss efforts, but it was the first time that she told me that she could really notice a difference!! :goodvibes

QOTD:

I noticed recently that I am getting too lazy to track - and decided to restart with an effort to make sure to track every little thing I eat. If I know that I have to track it, it is so much easier to withstand the little temptations during the day!!

Greetings!

I just spent the last couple of hours reading this thread and (sort of) getting to know (and really like) all of you, soooooooooo - here's a little bit about me:

I'm a SAHM of 3, used to be pretty active until about 10 years ago when I busted up both of my legs in a car accident. I'm healed, but arthritic and crooked, under too much extra weight (sometimes having babies will do that, and too much pizza and wine I guess!).

My plan of attack has been to limit my calories and track everything I eat on MFP, walk at least 30 min. a day and see my chiropractor once a week to help put everything back where it belongs :D

Jumping right in:

"QOTD: Do you feel like you are as serious about your healthy lifestyle as you need to be or do you feel like it could use a little improvement? If so, what can you strive for to get yourself where you need to be?"

I think I am right where I need to be for now, staying disciplined but not beating myself up too much; I have found that in the past I had gotten obsessive and overthought everything, which tends to make me burn out too quickly. My mantra as of late has been "Slow and steady wins the race".

I hope everyone is having a good day - keep up the good work, rest when you need to, and hydrate!!!

<3

I've been so distracted lately and haven't come to check this thread much! Getting ready for our cruise on Saturday.

QOTD: I feel like I'm doing well on my journey. Sometimes I think I'm being too strict with myself because I only eat what's on my idea of the plan and feel guilty to eat anything fun. But other times I feel like it's the way I should be because I'm making up for what I will be eating next week! Overall, I guess I'm doing fine. Always could use more water, of course.

Good Monday morning everyone. I graded some papers this morning and then I started sewing. Dh has been up on the roof fixing some shingles and a vent pipe that has been leaking into our family room. He is almost done. I will relax after he is done. It is the lower roof but I am still anxious.

Royalmom where in central jerseydo you live? I live in West Long Branch.

Have a happy and healthy day.

Happy Monday all!

Flossbolna, congrats on your NSV! That's terrific, what a great feeling that is.

lisah0711, thanks for the SP article.

QOTD: I'm active on SparkPeople - I track my calories daily. I use the weekends to plan my menu for the following week, get groceries, and cook food so I can have leftovers on busy weeknights. I also have been preparing my breakfasts and lunches to take to work for the most part. I need to cut back more on sodium, and lately I've given in to some temptations, so I need to cut back again on those in order to meet my goal for this month - 5 pounds to go! Workout-wise, I've picked up the intensity these last few days, I think I was getting a bit too comfortable in my routines, so I've been pushing harder. Overall, I'm still working on finding that balance of holding myself accountable while also taking it easy on myself when I do have a slip-up.

I have definitely experienced almost ALL of these (except for the health issues, thank heavens!) in my lifetime of trying to lose/maintain weight!! It wasn't until I wrapped my mind FULLY around this being a HEALTHY LIFESTYLE CHANGE FOREVER that I was totally successful.

There was always an excuse of why I couldn't start/continue my "diet" right then (party, holiday, etc etc). I always thought that the "thin" people were just "lucky"... that it was "harder" for me than it was for them. :headache: What an idiot I was!

I wasn't totally committed to making the necessary changes. I wanted to (figuratively AND literally) have my cake and eat it too!! I wanted to find low calorie swaps for all of the high calorie treats that I didn't want to give up. It wasn't until I really decided that I wanted to eat HEALTHIER and not just "lighter" and that I wanted to eat to FUEL and HEAL my body did everything really fall into place!

As you all know, it is the exercise portion of things where I truly struggle the most and probably always will... but as long as I never give up, I will be successful!

Pamela, hope that you are feeling better today! :flower3: And your menfolk will not starve if left to fend for themselves for a day or two. ;)

Belly is better and men didn't starve! :rotfl: Thank heavens for crockpot meals that I planned ahead! Thanks for asking!

:dance3: HUGE CONGRATULATIONS on that big news!!!:cool1::banana: I am so excited for you! Did you get goosebumps when you saw that number??

And I am very happy to report that I saw a new chiropractor last week and even after one adjustment I can tell that I finally going to find my running mojo again here very soon! :yay: I did 75 minutes on Saturday and that is the longest workout I've been able to do since August. So I am raring to go and have a great week!

YEAH for the run and DOUBLE YEAH for the new chiropractor! I am such a chiropractic-convert! Glad you are healing!

OH MY! SO much happiness to report! Happy belated birthday! I know it was a special day and that you were able to celebrate it feeling STRONG and HEALTHY and SLIM and VIBRANT! What a great gift you gave yourself this year!

Glad to hear you are settling into your new home! Wish we could throw you a housewarming party! :lmao:

<3

Welcome, welcome, welcome!! Glad to have a new "face" here! Sounds like you are right on track for weight-loss success!

Sorry for what you have faced in the past with your accident, but good for you for not letting it continue to hold you back!!

Sounds like you are striking a balance between healthy OP eating and the occasional indulgence. Enjoy your cruise and (some) of the food onboard and be prepared to get right back on track the day you return home!

Good Monday morning everyone. I graded some papers this morning and then I started sewing. Dh has been up on the roof fixing some shingles and a vent pipe that has been leaking into our family room. He is almost done. I will relax after he is done. It is the lower roof but I am still anxious.

Fingers crossed that DH is done on the roof.

Royalmom where in central jerseydo you live? I live in West Long Branch.

Have a happy and healthy day.

Happy Monday all!

Sounds like you are definitely in line to meet this month's goal! Don't you love being prepared ahead of time for the work day?? What kind of stuff you do make?? I have a big pot of black bean soup/stew going right now. I will pack it up for my work lunches for the next two weeks or so. I'll leave a few in the fridge for this week (although the most I will work this week will be 3 days) and then freezer the remainder in individual portions.... easy to grab at the last minute and throw in my lunch sack with a fresh apple and a bottle of sparkling water.

**********************

Afternoon all! Well.... dinner is bubbling away in the crockpot, the aforementioned black bean soup is simmering on the stove top, and I made a balsamic reduction to stick in the fridge for another day. Two loads of laundry made it outside today, but only one dried fully (darn sun that kept disappearing!). The jeans and t-shirts are draped around the dining room to try to finish the drying process. :(

I made the decision NOT to head out today to the thrift store. Just not feeling into it and not really feeling the 40 minute ride each way. Right now I'm waiting for DS to get off SKYPE with his girlfriend and give me a hand putting the patio table and chairs into the basement for the winter.

Dug up my rosemary plant today. I will bring it inside for the winter and hopefully NOT kill it! I also brought in an annual flower that somehow has avoided the frost thus far! It probably won't last long inside, but I felt bad tossing it out while it was still trying to flower!

Did my menu planning for most of the week.... it wasn't too hard since tomorrow night no one will be home for dinner (I will make a sandwich or veggie burger for myself when I get home from my WW meeting... DH and DS will eat on their way to the robotics meeting), Wednesday night DH is gone so I am making my healthy homemade fried (brown) rice for DS and myself. Thursday night is stuffed zucchini boats and Friday is still in the air, but I'm thinking of some sort of spaghetti squash and hamburg casserole (guess I had better find or create that recipe!).

Got carried away buying veggies Saturday at the market and now I'm scrambling to figure out how we will eat them all before they head south! Guess I was hungrier than I thought when I shopped! :rotfl: I think for tonight I will make steamed broccoli and roasted green beans to go with the pork dish in the crockpot. I've never made it before, so I'm not sure exactly what will go best with it. I honestly think sweet potatoes would go well with this recipe, but I'm the only one who likes them.

BRB with some replies.

I do not usually answer the questions of the day, but this one really hit home! For the first time in my life I feel like I am completely on board with a healthy lifestyle and it is really starting to show! I do think there is always room for improvement and feel like sometimes I need to take a deep breath and realize there will be bumps in the road and may have to take a few detours. My husband and I were just having a conversation today about how he has never seen me at my current weight and we have been together for 15+ yrs. I have made so many positive changes in my life over the last 18 months and am so proud of what I have accomplished. I still have a ways to go and still have so many things I want to accomplish, but for the first time it really seems like they are not nearly impossible to reach. Thank you guys for being such inspirations and support!

I guess I'd better introduce myself. I am an elementary school teacher. I've taught for 18 years. I have an 11 year old and 5 yr. old- both girls.I'm a little overwhelmed with how everyone on here keeps everyone straight. It seems a little daunting to me.
A long time ago I was super aware of nutrition and calories; I had to take a break. Like, a 15 year break. Now, I'm kind of playing around with it. It is hard for me to always plan every thing I eat, so I'm entering my food in at the end of the day. Since I'm adding it up at the end, I go over some days. I'm going to continue for a little while doing this to see if I can get closer to my target calories with good choices; not obsessive planning.
Today wasn't too bad. I ate some great choices, some not so good. And I'm only 123 calories over. I think my calories might be too low anyway.

Welcome to the newcomers! :wave2:

pjlla, I love to make soups as well. I made a great tomato soup a couple weeks ago and took that with some veggies on the side to work. For breakfast, one of my favorite things to make on a Sunday and then take to work all week are mini crustless quiches - I sautee whatever veggies I want, mix it with the eggs, milk, and some shredded cheese or even feta, add just a touch of salt and pepper, then scoop the mixture into a muffin tin and bake it. So great and very portable, I usually eat 2 for breakfast with a slice of GF toast. I also always take an afternoon snack to have at work, my favorite lately being either an apple or a pear with string cheese.

Good morning all! :goodvibes

Sounds like folks are in a great place in their healthy lifestyle! ::yes::

So let's talk about something else that is fun about this time of year -- comfort foods! Who doesn't like a nice bowl of comfort food on a cold and stormy night or after a hectic day of holiday preparations? We all deserve to eat well and as long as we are make good choices that we don't regret later there is nothing wrong with enjoying every bite of that comfort food.

Here is a list of five good for you comfort foods from a sparkpeople.com article called 15 Comfort Foods That are Good for you. I will share the first five and you can read the entire article here http://www.sparkpeople.com/resource/nutrition_articles.asp?id=198 if you want to see the whole list.

2. Nut butter and honey (grown up version of PBJ)
3. Chicken noodle soup
4. Baked potato (make wise choices about toppings)
5. Meatloaf (some easy substitutions can make this a healthy choice)

Which brings me to the QOTD for Tuesday, November 12, 2013: What is your favorite comfort food? Is there a way you can make it more healthy or is it healthy already? If you have a recipe to share please post it on our recipe thread that can be found here http://disboards.com/showpost.php?p=36324235&postcount=1 and post a link in this thread.

My favorite comfort food is homemade macaroni and cheese. I grew up on the stuff in the box but my mac and cheese is healthier and tastier with skim milk, a bit of butter, and smaller amounts of more flavorful cheese, and my secret ingredients: nutmeg and chile powder. Yum!

Time to head off to the the gym so I will be there when it opens at 5 a.m. That feeling that you have walking back out at 5:50 a.m. and being done with your workout -- priceless! :goodvibes

I love chicken noodle soup for comfort food. I've found a great gluten-free canned version, or I make my own but with rice instead of noodles - that way, it's also lower in sodium.

I also love Italian food. There are some decent gluten-free pastas, but I've been using lately spaghetti squash in place of pasta - it makes a ton, it fills me up, and it adapts well to whatever I'm serving with it.

I also sometimes really like having breakfast for dinner as a way of comfort food - usually eggs, some kind of lean meat, and GF toast.

I do miss soft, warm bread though, especially rolls or biscuits - GF bread just doesn't compare!
