WISH Away The Pounds~ Marvelous May 2014 Challenge! *All Welcome!*

Happy Mother's Day

Same to you, Dona! :flower3:

On the plus side I'm still going down and it looks like I'm going to get a little bit of a break this week at work!!!! :yay: I could use a shorten day after all these late nights!

Enjoy that break! It's good to have a chance to recharge your batteries a bit! ::yes:: Plus your ticker is counting down the days fast! :cool2:

A 1/3 of the way thru May??!! How the heck did that happen? My progress so far has been in reverse. So, I still need to change gears in general. I'm gonna "start" again in the morning after Mexican food and a margarita with my mom and the whole family for Mother's Day.

Happy Mother's Day, ladies! Here's to a successful new week. :-)

We still have 3 more weigh ins so lots of time to make some great progress. Hope you had a wonderful Mother's Day, Connie! :flower3:

Pretty happy, dropped a few pounds... Overall wanting to go from 250 to 175, so being 204 right now is great. Need to workout more, but it's tough

It is tough to squeeze in those workouts -- is there anything that you can do to add a little more activity in your regular daily life? That can really add up even 10 minutes at a time. :goodvibes

Morning all! I hope you had a great Mother's Day! Sorry I didn't pop on.... and today is looking nutty as well!

Here is your QOTD for Monday, May 12, 2014:

How do you/would you measure your progress without your scale?

This is a busy time of year for sure, Pamela. I think it is going to whiz by until school is out. :car:

There are lots of ways to measure your progress without the scale: measurements, how your clothes fit, how you feel, comments by other people about how you look. :cool2:

If it wasn't for these NSVs this healthy living thing would be so much harder. :hippie: Just this week I had to order some smaller sized capris to wear because the ones I had (which were a new smaller size last summer) are now too big. :woohoo:

Have a great day all! :goodvibes

Have you been trying to do the reflection?? I find it to be super helpful to take a few minutes in the morning to look at the PREVIOUS day.

I have been trying to do this but only since Thursday. :rotfl2: I always embrace these new routines at the beginning and it is a new to me one so it makes it even better in my eyes. :cool2: I think the sense of "newness" makes it easier to do for some reason. :confused3 Or I just the same old, same old so boring that anything seems like an improvement. :rotfl:

Glad that you got to see both Moms and your DD yesterday, Pamela! I know that was a red letter family day for you!

Hi, friends! :)

Had a wonderful Mother's Day - brunch and a nap in the afternoon, and DH gave me a spa gift certificate for my scheduled visit in a few weeks. :)

WI on Friday was down just a smidge, but I'll take it...slow and steady! And I'm off and running this morning - literally. I went out for 3.1 miles on a beautiful morning here just in case we get thunderstorms at running group again tonight. If not, oh well, double the mileage today!

QOTD - it's definitely about how my clothes fit. I can tell with some items immediately when my weight has slipped, and I'm there with the jeans right now. Good thing it's nice and warm out...not exactly jeans weather! But still...I *know* things are off when they don't fit right.

Now to get DDs to school and me back here to work. I have a mile-long to-do list after taking Friday off...

XO
Liz

Hope that you had a great run, Liz! :flower3: Enjoy your busy day! :cool2:

BTW, forgot to mention that my Mother's Day gift was a Disney Alex & Ani bracelet ! DD certainly knows my taste ! And lucky for her DS will go along with whatever she suggests!.......P

Sounds like a nice relaxing Mother's Day! Good luck getting through your entire to-do list!

This is a busy time of year for sure, Pamela. I think it is going to whiz by until school is out. :car:

Busy for everyone it seems!

How WONDERFUL that you got to order new capris in a smaller size!! BIG woohoo!!

I did do some "morning-after" reflections last week and it really was very helpful.... I just need to dedicate a few minutes EVERY DAY to doing that!

Glad that you got to see both Moms and your DD yesterday, Pamela! I know that was a red letter family day for you!

It really was worth the crazy driving.... 2 hours south to my parents, another 1.5 hour drive east to DMIL, and then another 45 minutes south to DD.... and finally about 2.5 hours home again! But well worth the hugs and love!

Well... this day is definitely turning out different than I anticipated. I am in for a lead person in the special ed/discipline room and I was kind of dreading it, but there are a few students absent and I actually haven't done ANYTHING yet today except some reading on the computer and some texting to DD. I will admit it is boring, but I'll take BORING over STRESSFUL any day!!

I am not currently scheduled to work tomorrow, probably because it is an early release day, but I will take it if I am called.... but I do have to tell the school that I cannot work here Wednesday because I am picking up DD for her two weeks at home!!:yay: And she and I are taking our Mother/Daughter road trip while she is home, so I will have a few days off for that as well... plus DS finally gets his braces off next week, so I have that day off.

Okay.... time to find something to do so that I look busy and so that I stop looking at the clock! I have recess duty at 12:20 (and I am actually looking forward to that today!) and lunch at 12:40. Maybe I'll offer to go to the library and shelve books!:thumbsup2

TTYL.......................P

QOTD- for me it's kinda easy, all of my extra weight is my belly, about 25 lbs need to get rid of, people don't know it's there but I do... I have a tape and measure myself every other week, so even though I wasn't losing weight while I was working out, could see the inches go away..

Here is your QOTD for Monday, May 12, 2014:

How do you/would you measure your progress without your scale?

I'd just love for my clothes to fit better. Looser. To the point of needing new smaller ones. That's a good enough "measurement" for me.

Have any of you tried Plexus products as a way to lose weight and improve health? :confused3

Last Friday, my sister gave me a three day sample of two products (Slim and Accelerator+) and I used them Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Although three days isn't really enough to lose weight, I was able to see some changes in how I felt.

For one, I felt like drinking more water. I have known for years that if you could only change one thing to improve your health, getting the right amount of water would be the place to start because every single process in the body runs better when hydrated. :drinking1

Another difference I felt was that, even though I'm in a terrible habit of having some ice cream after dinner most nights and it was TIME for ice cream, I honestly felt like I could take it or leave it. No monster craving shouting down my pitiful little excuse for will-power. To have (or not have) ice cream felt more like a choice instead of a... requirement.

That may not sound like much but, I really liked that it changed the way I felt. I mean, I want to lose weight and be healthier. But, I always seem to be waiting until I FEEL like it to actually make the changes to eat right and exercise. And, since my "feel like it" doesn't seem to be happening on it's own, I think I'll try getting it from a supplement for a while.

So, this morning, I made the decision to jump in with both feet. In order to get the wholesale pricing, I did sign up as an ambassador which means that I have a website where the products can be purchased. I understand that this, the DIS/WISH boards are not a marketplace and I won't be "selling" here. I will, however, because we are all here for the same reasons, let you know how it works for me by way of product review regarding my personal experience only. If you come up with questions that go beyond what I might share here, I hope that you'll PM me and I'll get additional information to you privately.

Anyway, from my posts so far, I'm sure you can see that I have yet to latch onto any real motivation and my commitment has been, well, fairly non-existent. I am definitely a case of needing all the help I can get. So, I'm going to find out if this Plexus stuff is all it's cracked up to be and I will let you know what I discover. :magnify:

Now I just have to wait for my first order to arrive. :hourglass

How do you/would you measure your progress without your scale?
I would say how my clothes fit too, which lately is not so good. Everything is a bit too tight! :(

Still coke free! And chip free since Friday afternoon. Hoping by mid to late June to start having small servings of potato chips again, but getting rid of the temptation short term was a good thing. Twelve days in I feel like I just about have the coke cravings to a manageable level. Now just need to find the motivation to work on some other stuff.

Connie--ita on the water. If I drink water, I do better. Period. Today I had about 6 ounces.:rolleyes1

I decided to forgo the conference. For many reasons. New Planet is pretty awesome, though. They are going to send me a gift box. :) Has anyone seen the post on fb that cocaine (and some other stuff, can't remember) is gluten free? It is some snarky thing aimed at all the people who are on the gf trend, I guess. It is really bothering me. I don't think people realize how hurtful some of these 'jokes' etc can feel to someone who struggles with this stuff every day. Ok, I get it that they are making fun of the trendy people, but it just doesn't sit well. Anyhow, sorry to get off topic.

The puppy had to go back to the vet yet again this weekend, though she seems to now be improving a bit. We have her on special food so hopefully that will help. We are supposed to be out of town next week, and still debating if we will have to cancel. She is coming with us, and we will see her everyday, but she will be staying over night at a boarding facility. She is not contagious, and we will only take her if she continues to improve, but I still feel a little guilty. Going to give it another day or so before we decide.

I am going to be honest. I am tired. And don't want to eat healthy or take care of myself or do any of that good stuff, but I am trying. Going to celebrate the victories (coke and chip free) and call that good enough for today.:goodvibes

I measure my progress by how my clothes are fitting (which is too tight right now) and how I am feeling. If I am eating crappy, I feel tired and run down.

Sounds like a crazy busy weekend, but what a FUN sounding party!!

The kids had a blast and skated and ran around for about 2.5 hours! I told a parent that it must've been fun when I finally saw some of them at the end and they were all red and sweaty from laser tag!

I do use my crockpot quite a bit, but I feel like I keep repeating recipes. I guess I better expand my list and search for some new ones.

Okay ladies.... so sorry I didn't get to pop on here yesterday. We spent too many hours in the car to count, but like I said, both Moms got a visit (short but sweet), plus I saw DD.....AND I stayed OP all day!! I made a HUGE fruit salad to bring every where (left the extras with DD) and it was a good day overall..... nice to not concentrate on the FOOD, but on the VISITS instead. That being said, despite having my sneakers handy, I never made it out for an official MILE yesterday. Oh well. I did a bit of gardening for DMIL and walked across campus with DD.

This will probably be my ONLY computer access until I get home tonight, so I'll chat later! Have a great Monday!...............P

Sounds like you had a wonderful Mother's Day!

I hope you get nice weather tonight! My sister and I went for a 4 mile walk and it got cut short to 3.16 because of thunder and rain. At least you planned ahead in case of rough weather.

That has to be so frustrating. My cousin's husband doesn't eat gluten anymore and he has noticed a huge difference. They also have a son who is autistic and they have found that not eating gluten has helped him as well. Try not to let others get to you. And, enjoy the gift box!

I think everyone has tired and blah days. Coke and chip free is a huge victory! Celebrate away :)

I hope everyone enjoyed their Mother's Days. Mine was busy but so much fun!

DS's soccer practice was cancelled due to the rain, so we have an unexpected family night. We are finally watching Hunger Games Catching Fire. So, I don't have time to do a big reply right now. I am going to try to check in during the day tomorrow while at work. Have a great night!

Hi ladies!! I had a super busy weekend fri worked in the am then traveled 2 hrs to my moms spent the night then traveled with her back home on sat am for DS's LAX game and his Jr Prom then on Sun we packed backed up and drove back to my mom's (where I will be till Wed as my dad is off fishing for a week). and then I took her to dinner at Dysarts. Today we just stayed home - she has a bum hip so no driving or lots of walking for her at the moment but she got fantastic news today - she can have her hip surgery in mid July! She was thinking it wouldn't be till late Sept. She was happy happy! I was down slightly this week but it's all good. Zumba starts Thurs and I just bought the Wii Zumba from an online yard sale. I'll be back on a Thurs to chat. Take care everyone.

Thought this was great!:rotfl:
Exactly how I feel some days--doing good, doing good, oops eating everything in sight.

Glad that you are using measurements as a guide as well as the scale. I never took my "before" measurements and I often wish I had.

I can sympathize....the capris I wore to work yesterday didn't fit right and it was distracting ALL DAY!

Twelve days in I feel like I just about have the coke cravings to a manageable level. Now just need to find the motivation to work on some other stuff.

Is there any reason to add the chips back in, even in June? Perhaps by then you will discover you can live without them. I used to LOVE potato chips.... real nice ones.... Lay's or Ruffles....MMMMM! I come from a LOOOONG line of potato chip lovers on my Dad's side (truly, no lie).... and it was one of those things that I thought I would NEVER give up, but would have to manage. Well, I switched to Baked Lay's sometimes and those were a good substitute occasionally. Then I gave up the "real" chips all the time (except for ONE from a fresh bag) and now I've pretty much given up Baked Lay's most of the time as well. I still crave sweet potato chips occasionally, but have stopped buying them because I can't control myself around an opened bag. And the only time I will occasionally buy Baked Lay's any more is for a party or cookout. It is amazing how LITTLE I actually crave them.

That being said, perhaps knowing that you CAN add the chips back in when/if you want, is a better way of thinking about it. I didn't "give up" the chips because I HAD to.... I did it because I WANTED TO. But if I had been told on day #1 that I MUST give them up, that would have made me want to hold onto them all the tighter! I guess it is just a phase/step/progression that we all must come to on our own with time and experience.

Just some food for thought.

It all goes back to that old saying of walking a mile in another man's moccasins. You NEVER know what someone is going through until you have lived THEIR life, so don't criticize! I'm sure if many folks had to go through the debilitating symptoms that you did before you self-diagnosed, they would think twice about being SNARKY!

The puppy had to go back to the vet yet again this weekend, though she seems to now be improving a bit. We have her on special food so hopefully that will help. Prayers that Jessie is getting healthier by the day. She is so lucky to have you and Mike!

Try NOT to make food choices when you are TIRED! And try not to reflect on your day when you are tired. Last week's "lesson" for WW was about taking 5 minutes to reflect on your day.... but I encouraged my members to do it the next morning, instead of the evening. To me, every mistake I made looks GLARING in the evening, but by the next morning I can be more objective. The mistakes are still there, but I can LEARN from them, rather than beat myself up over them.

When I start grazing in the evening after dinner, it usually means I am tired or stressed and I try to remember to just have a cup of tea or my low cal/low carb mocha-type hot drink and GO TO BED! Because I can eat EVERYTHING in the house and still not be satisfied because it isn't about hunger at that point!

I measure my progress by how my clothes are fitting (which is too tight right now) and how I am feeling. If I am eating crappy, I feel tired and run down.

I'm guessing that many of us can agree with that!

Sounds like you had a wonderful Mother's Day!

I did, thank you!

Where are you and DD headed for your trip?

New York State.... Niagara and then heading North along the Canadian border for a Laura Ingalls Wilder related visit (I'm a HUGE fan, in case I never mentioned that here). It will be a lot of driving in just a few days, but I am SOOOOO looking forward to time alone with DD without the stress of school hanging over her head!

I hope everyone enjoyed their Mother's Days. Mine was busy but so much fun!

Oh boy, does THAT sound familiar! :headache: It would be funny if it weren't so... accurate.

AGREED!

***********************

Hey friends! Finally got a day here at home and I STILL am tardy getting the QOTD posted. I should be FIRED!!:rotfl:

I'm picking up DD tomorrow for TWO WHOLE WEEKS of fun and freedom from school (well, at least for HER) and I am feeling like a kid on the day before Christmas!! She has busted her BUTT this year in school and has made me proud every day! She has dealt with SO MUCH stress with the obvious "freshman" type of stress, living away from home for the first time, the whole swim team situation, meeting new people, and obviously school work plus a real job for the first time! She has managed it like a BOSS! That being said, she has not really had any kind of break. She was only home at Christmas time for a little over a week before she went back to live on campus and work on a research project for a professor. Then she was home for spring break, but had tons of school work and got a bad cold part of the week, so it wasn't exactly fun and relaxing. So here we go.... two weeks of just FUN and RELAXING (I hope!).

Well, today is an early release day at school, so I will need to head out at lunch time to pick up DS plus today is my WW meeting day, so I need to spend some time prepping for that, so here comes the QOTD and I'll BBL to chat a bit more!..................P

QOTD for Tuesday, May 13, 2014:

What do you consider your three biggest TIPS to leading a healthy/healthier lifestyle???

QOTD for Tuesday, May 13, 2014:
What do you consider your three biggest TIPS to leading a healthy/healthier lifestyle???

As un-fit as I am right now, I feel woefully unqualified to be sharing tips but here are the first three off the top of my head...

1) drink lots of water
2) go to bed on time
3) don't eat while doing other things, like watching TV or working on the computer (be conscious of what and how much you're eating)

How's everyone doing? This morning really got away from me! And I need to call the school and let them know that I am NOT working tomorrow, as scheduled.... dreading that call!

Lunch was a bit of this and a bit of that for all of us (trying to avoid yet ANOTHER grocery trip).... low carb quesidilla for DH (turkey, provolone, and greens), frozen pizza for DS (early release day from school), and a turkey and Laughing Cow cheese sandwich on low carb bread and a vegetable sautee for me (spinach, onions, and mushrooms). Will have a bit of fruit for "dessert" and an almond milk/greens smoothie to take along for the ride to my meeting tonight so I don't end up absolutely starving. I WILL make and WRITE DOWN a dinner plan for myself... if I don't, I end up overeating on Tuesday nights because I get home late and I am usually absolutely starving!

For dinner time, the men have a small-ish piece of marinated london broil to throw on the grill and I will be sure there is some broccoli ready to steam with it.... and I'll throw a potato in some foil for DS to cook for himself. But I don't anticipate that there will be any leftovers and that is okay with me. But I MUST have a PLAN of what to eat or I will just start eating and lose control! Not sure what it is about Tuesday nights! I think I am just SO HUNGRY when I get home, I just can't seem to get "full"!

Well... need to fly now! TTYL....................P

Morning all! I hope you had a great Mother's Day! Sorry I didn't pop on.... and today is looking nutty as well!

Here is your QOTD for Monday, May 12, 2014:

How do you/would you measure your progress without your scale?

I always measure by how my clothes are fitting! Especially those jeans right out of the dryer!

:magnify
Now I just have to wait for my first order to arrive. :hourglass

Can't wait to hear how it works for you! I've done Advocare to get me over humps but what it really did was help break me of some really bad habits!

QOTD for Tuesday, May 13, 2014:

What do you consider your three biggest TIPS to leading a healthy/healthier lifestyle???

1)write it down. Be accountable for what you do everyday.
2) understand it's ok to mess up sometimes. Each time you eat or get active is a new chance to do something good for yourself
3) talk about it with people who get the struggle. Weight loss can be really hard, and it's ok to discuss the good and the bad with a community you find yourself in.

and personal 4) don't be afraid to say no to all the food your nana offers! :lmao: I love her, but man she is a constant destroyer...but always the first to point out a weight gain. :scratchin

Well... need to fly now! TTYL....................P

I feel your pain on not writing it down!! haha I'm trying to not go shopping before we leave in a week. I have meals planned up through Sunday...which really just leaves 2 days to grab salads or have leftovers.

****
I finally was able to run 3/4 of a mile! I think I was going too fast and that's why I wasn't able to do the last bit. Usually I'll stick it out but I was getting to the feeling like I'm going to die point and I still had weight lifting to do.

For dinner I'm brining turkey and spinach lasagna rollups. They're super easy and they keep well for leftovers to bring to work.

Speaking of work, I now have to go get ready to go in! I will say I always feel bad that I sleep till 10 or 11...and then I remember I get in from work late and I'm not actually wasting the day away.

This is my first adult vacation that I've had to do everything myself. Anyone have any do not forgets that you would suggest bringing? Already got the Brita water bottles for the parks so we stay hydrated and aren't tempted by soda!

BTW, forgot to mention that my Mother's Day gift was a Disney Alex & Ani bracelet ! DD certainly knows my taste ! And lucky for her DS will go along with whatever she suggests!.......P

Sounds very cute! :cool2: What was your charm?

I am not currently scheduled to work tomorrow, probably because it is an early release day, but I will take it if I am called.... but I do have to tell the school that I cannot work here Wednesday because I am picking up DD for her two weeks at home!!:yay: And she and I are taking our Mother/Daughter road trip while she is home, so I will have a few days off for that as well... plus DS finally gets his braces off next week, so I have that day off.

I know that you are really looking forward to some quality time with your DD, Pamela! :goodvibes Your road trip sounds very fun. :cool2:

I'm a big Laura Ingalls Wilder fan myself from way back -- I read the books every year. DeSmet is a few hours away from where we vacation in Iowa. I would like to go but it is hard to get anyone else in the family to get excited about that one. :rotfl:

QOTD- for me it's kinda easy, all of my extra weight is my belly, about 25 lbs need to get rid of, people don't know it's there but I do... I have a tape and measure myself every other week, so even though I wasn't losing weight while I was working out, could see the inches go away..

You are so smart to have other ways besides the scale to measure your success! :thumbsup2

Have any of you tried Plexus products as a way to lose weight and improve health? :confused3

I will be interested in hearing how that works for you, Connie! :cool2: As someone else struggling with motivation now ITA that something new and radical may be just what the doctor ordered. ::yes::

DS's soccer practice was cancelled due to the rain, so we have an unexpected family night. We are finally watching Hunger Games Catching Fire. So, I don't have time to do a big reply right now. I am going to try to check in during the day tomorrow while at work. Have a great night!

Hope you enjoyed your unexpected family night, Jill! :cool2: How many days until summer? (Not that I think you are counting or anything. ;))

Glad that your mom can have her surgery sooner, Michelle! You are a good daughter to help! :flower3: Safe travels!

Thought this was great!:rotfl:
Exactly how I feel some days--doing good, doing good, oops eating everything in sight.

LOL! :lmao:

Of course, really no one could blame you for being hungry at night if that is all that you had all day long! ::yes::

Hope your sweet puppy is feeling better! :flower3:

Let me know what you think of the Wii Zumba. We have a very underutilized Wii and I might be tempted to try that!

I'm sure I've mentioned this before but never, never, never do Wii in bare feet . . . that is what caused my PF. That's my PSA for today. :goodvibes

QOTD for Tuesday, May 13, 2014:

What do you consider your three biggest TIPS to leading a healthy/healthier lifestyle???

1. Track only on the days you want to lose. :thumbsup2
2. Know exactly how many calories you burn -- sorry most of us mortals
can never exercise enough to outrun a bad diet.
3. Never give up!

Have any of y'all used a step-counter lately? I downloaded an app called Breeze to my iPhone 5s a little over a week ago. I had forgotten how motivating a step-counter could be. I've hit my step goal 7 days in a row now. If you have iPhone 5, check it out:

https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/breeze-activity-step-tracking/id826697005

Congrats on hitting your step goal every day, Connie, that is something to celebrate! :yay:

That app looks really interesting. I use RunKeeper quite often for running because I can set it to any interval I like. It does suck the life out of my phone though so I can't use it for really long runs. Anything that helps you to move more is great in my book. I have been known to do some laps around the house to get my activity monitor to get to 100% so I do think that these things can help motivate you.

You are so nice to be our "guinea pig" and report about all the fun things to us! :flower3:

I always measure by how my clothes are fitting! Especially those jeans right out of the dryer!

Excellent point! :thumbsup2

As far as your trip is concerned my hint is make sure you have your tickets, MagicBands, money and credit cards -- everything else you can live without or buy if you had to. ;)

The weather has finally warmed up a bit in our neck of the woods so I get to plant my window boxes today after work. :yay:

P--I have to add the chips back in because I have to. :) Just because. :) I think because there are so many things I can't have, I just don't want to put anything else in that category. Thanks for the thoughts on reflecting on your day. I am doing a bunch of things well this month, and I am going to build on that. :)

Jill--how is the foot??

Hope everyone is having a good Tuesday. :)
