WISH Away the Pounds July Challenge - Everyone Welcome!!

I also bought some plain seltzer to hopefully offset my coke cravings. I am doing better but still cheating and having one occasionally. The problem is I have one and then all of a sudden I am craving all kinds of junk!

I just saw that Lisa quoted this post of yours and suggested to add fruit. One very popular drink here in Germany is half apple juice and half club soda (which I think is the same as seltzer???). Pure apple juice has about as much sugar as coke, but it tastes still great if you dilute it with the water, so it becomes less sugary. Personally I prefer to have even less than half juice in the drink, I think about 1/3 juice and 2/3 water are perfect. It still is fizzy, but much healthier than coke! It is a wonderful refreshing summer drink, too. It actually works with every pure fruit juice (personal favourites are black currants, grapefruit and cherry).

thanks! and thanks Lisa too. Great ideas!

I love frozen cherries (no sugar) so I think adding them would work great too and serve as ice cubes. :)

I really do think a lot of it is I just love the fizz. It has an odd calming effect on me.:rotfl:

I'm in. My weight is way back up and my new clothes aren't fitting so well anymore. ERGH!

My goal is 5 pounds this month. PM'ing my info soon.

QOTD Wednesday, July 2, 2014: It's Woo Hoo Wednesday! Give yourself a big "woo hoo" for helping yourself to be healthy and share something that you did this week to help you with your goals. Hopefully you don't feel like you've been on the wildest ride in the wilderness!;)

This QOTD should be no surprise ;) I know it's only been two days but I bet you can think of something you've done in the past week to help yourself with your goals. :goodvibes

Be back tomorrow with replies and my own answer!

The frozen cherries idea is a great one! :thumbsup2

I agree about the fizz . . . fizzy drinks are just more fun! :drinking1

I took the quiz and I'm prepared for success! :banana:

QOTD: I think now more than any other time this year I am finally ready to get moving and get myself together. I started this year doing T25 and Hop Hop Abs. It was good for a while, but it got boring and finding dedicated time was getting harder and harder so I would skip a day here and there and next thing you know I hadn't worked out in a week. Then I found a workout buddy and started over and she quit on me. I finally realized I am going to have to do it myself. For myself. By myself. Dh is supportive but he likes to go to the gym, which I hate.

One of the things that is on my bucket list is to complete a half marathon and a full marathon. I was playing around on YouTube and came across s Princess half video and it looked so fun! I watched more of them and then decided I want to finally get out there and do a race. I have a tangible goal and a timeline to prepare for it. It is something I want to do and I am too excited about it. This time, I do feel like I am going to stick with it and complete my goal and keep moving from there to do many more races.

Hello ladies, I am in for July. Congrats to all who made or got closer to their goals in June. Let's continue the great work! And welcome to all who are doing this challenge for the first time.

I am having a hard time ATM because I had to put my kitty to sleep yesterday. He got very sick very quickly after a diagnosis of FIP, an incurable viral illness last week. I have been spending most of my time taking care of him or worrying about him, so I have not exercised or really watched diet in 5 days. :worried::( Hopefully I can recommit tomorrow.

To a better month this month.

I sometimes do something similar with pink lemonade from Costco. It is so super strong in flavour, I can drink it at about 1:10 juice to water.

The other thing I do to keep water interesting is to buy limes or lemons, cut them into wedges and drop them into a wide mouth bottle with a sippy lid. Add one drop of stevia to cut through the acid, and it's very refreshing (and cheap!)

I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of your cat :( that is a very hard time to get through, but I'm sure he felt the love through all your care and attention.

:hug: Very sorry for your loss. We went through it twice in the last year with our dogs and it was very hard. Take care of yourself.

Good morning! Today was supposed to be a run day, but I am moving slowly, so I think I will just walk a couple miles before work instead. We are running a 10k on Friday (5th year in a row for us :) ) and I would rather save a little bit of energy and have a great race. It has been very humid and warm here, but a little cold front is here and Friday morning it is supposed to be in the upper 50s :cool1: so should be a great race!

Have a good Wednesday!

Oh man, I've had so many ups and downs weight wise over the last few years! I'll try and be brief - I have a lap band, first got it five years ago. Lost weight without too much hassle in the first year, but I wasn't mentally ready at all. Spent the next three years sorting my head out, gained back the weight, then was ready a year ago to start again. Struggled for the year as I didn't know the band had slipped. Couldn't eat for weeks / months. Lost a stack of weight (over 30kgs, sorry I'm Australian and talk metric :P) but then preparing for the lap band replacement surgery and recovery time was so long without any help from the band, I put over 20kgs of that back on.

So now I'm back at a point where the lap band should be working, but I don't believe that it will. I keep having self defeating thoughts (I only lost weight last year because I could barely eat anything at all...so unless I'm at that point, the weight won't come off) and so I struggle to even want to try. I think the thing I really need to learn is that, if I follow healthy behaviours, I can trust my body to change for the better.

Thanks for the words of encouragement :hug: and congrats on the weightloss last month :thumbsup2

My mom also had lap band surgery and it slipped. While it was where it was supposed to be, she lost the weight. I don't think she ever went back to have it put back where it was supposed to be. She may have actually had it removed. :confused3

I have the unique challenge of doing this without any real sleep. I watch my DS 18 month old (18 months old today! Happy Birthday, Donovan!) during the day while DW is at work, she leaves early in the morning and due to rush hour traffic isnt home until 7pm, at which point I try to get some sleep before I leave for work at 10pm, and I work until 7 the next morning. At least it does give me the opportunity to get in 2 15 minute walks and a 30 minute walk (I can eat at my workstation).

First, Happy Birthday Donovan!!! Gabe made 10 months on the 26th. August 26th makes a year. September 4th makes a year since his open heart surgery. We will be celebrating that at Disney World this year!!!! So excited.

Man do I know the feeling of no sleep. I get up at 4:30 am, work until 4:30 then it's home to cook, clean, take care of the baby. He hasn't sleep well since April when he started with back to back ear infections. Going to the dr today to try and get a referral to the ENT for tubes. Anyway, we both sleep during the night but not well at all. He tosses and turns and is miserable. Feel bad for letting it go this long and not demanding a referral for the ENT. Before the ear infections, he slept in his own crib and only semi-woke up for a bottle and diaper change and then went right back in his crib and right back to sleep.

It's too hot to walk when we get home from work. 99 degrees yesterday at 5. The sun goes down around 8:15ish and yesterday I was looking out the window and thinking, this would be a good time to go walk. It was still quite warm outside but without the sun beating down. Gabe usually goes to sleep between 6:30 and 7 but, he doesn't sleep well anyway so if I just put him in his stroller at 8:15ish and get my butt out the door, it may work. Going to give it a try tonight.

Glad to know I'm not the only one dealing with little sleep and a baby.

I'm in. My weight is way back up and my new clothes aren't fitting so well anymore. ERGH!

I know the clothes not fitting thing. Before I gained weight I had dressy clothes to wear to work, heels, always had my hair fixed and makeup on. Now, I have 2 jeans. One that is too big and one that almost fits. I have 5 t-shirts that I wear over and over and over again. My hair is always in a ponytail and I never put on makeup anymore. Hard to feel good about anything else when you are miserable with your weight.

I also still have a closet full of dress clothes that I WILL fit into again. I went from a size 15 to a 7 about 3 years ago. I was 7 lbs away from my goal weight of 120. I got into a relationship with my now husband who also likes to eat as much as I do and then we got pregnant and there went the weight. Weird thing is, I gained 70 lbs for my first baby in 04, got pregnant 9 months later with my second baby and gained more weight. Lost it all plus some 3 years ago and then gained it back before I got pregnant again. This time I only gained 15 lbs which I lost within the first month. I'm now heavier than I was when I was pregnant this last time!!!!

Anyway, hope you are fitting back into your new clothes in no time.

having a workout buddy is great, but just as you realised, it is important to learn to do it just for yourself. You won't be able to count on having one all the time during your life.

But, have you researched running clubs/meets around where you live? Here in my city they have one that meets twice a week and offers all kind of different levels, one group starts out every spring as a total beginners group. I know Lisa recently joined something like that. Maybe that would help motivating you to go to be part of a group?

Otherwise, if your DH likes to exercise at the gym, why don't you just schedule your chosen exercise at the same time? With that you at least both get ready for some exercise together and most often this is what I have problems with: to just get started!

I think the thing I really need to learn is that, if I follow healthy behaviours, I can trust my body to change for the better.

:thumbsup2 That's it! Yes, losing weight is something that can be important for health reasons. But even if your body will take some time to adjust because you recently have been through quite a roller coaster ride with your weight, eating healthy foods and exercising has a benefit in itself. It is not all about the weight loss. Personally, I feel better when I eat things that are good for me and keep moving, even if I don't lose weight because I am eating too much of my whole wheat pasta.

Woo Hoo!!!!

This is not food or exercise related and I don't usually openly admit this but...I have been struggling with bipolar/depression/anxiety/anger issues lately. I am always always angry. Everything sets me off. I finally got my butt up and went back to the doctor for a med adjustment. Hoping to feel better soon because I know when my emotions are all over the place, it's not healthy. My goal is to lose weight, get healthy and feel better about myself. Getting back to the real me by admitting I needed a med change is a big step in getting healthy.

So how is the foot/p-f? Sorry if I missed an update earlier.
I was off plan for a couple of days too, but back on the wagon too. And like you I feel cruddy from being off plan. Why do I think a few minutes of something tasting good/satisfying a stressful situation are worth days of feeling crappy later?

My foot is actually doing ok. Every once in awhile it hurts after exercising, but nothing to be majorly worried about.

I look at anything chocolatey and think "I need that now." Then I feel so crappy after :( So, I'm trying to stay strong and positive. I am also trying to think before I eat to remind myself how it will make me feel later.

My DS (22) is with us for the month which is a nice treat. I am off today so we hit the grocery and loaded up on healthy food. Lots and lots of fruit and produce in the house now. So no excuses for bad choices. I also bought some plain seltzer to hopefully offset my coke cravings. I am doing better but still cheating and having one occasionally. The problem is I have one and then all of a sudden I am craving all kinds of junk!

Hope everyone is having a good day!

I hope you have a nice time with DS! Maybe him being around will help with the stress of the house buying and possible company buy out! If not, I vote to move to Florida and go to WDW everyday :)

Howdy folks!

Good job for taking care of yourself. I'm sure it will help with your all over general health. I hope you are feeling more like yourself very, very soon.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Good morning! I decided that I better get an early morning run in before it gets too hot. It's only 89% humidity this morning :headache: At this rate of 90 degree days with such high humidity, I might as well move to Florida! I was complaining yesterday about how sticky and yucky it was and DH laughed because we are going on a cruise in August. He asked if I planned to stay in the cabin the whole time :rotfl: I told him I am hoping for Caribbean breezes and beautiful waters :goodvibes
Did anyone watch the USA World Cup game? Geesh, talk about stressful! I'm glad the country seemed to get into it. The team got further than I ever thought they would. I'm enjoying my summer of no sports, but I am missing going to DSs soccer games!
Okay, I'm off to get my day started. I'm not sure what the plans are for the day, but I definitely need to shower and eat. Stay cool :)
Jill
Humidity high today of 82% and 94 degrees. I know how you feel. We went to Disney World in March and the weather was nice. Not too hot. We are going again at the beginning of September and I am almost regretting picking that time because I know how hot it will be. But, it won't be any cooler at home so it's either sweat at home or sweat at Disney World. I pick Disney World.
Hopefully the fitbit (it's at the postoffice now, need to pick it up on Thursday) will give me some additional motivation to stay active. I will try to track, but I won't get too annoyed with myself if I don't. I do know the points values of most things anyway, so as long as I stay with my healthy standards, I know I will be fine. In a way I guess I am following the other plan (simply filling?). Hm, maybe I actually should give that a try...
A lot of the lifetime folks at my meeting do Simply Filling and really like it. I know that you will enjoy your FitBit, Magdalene! :cool2: Can't wait to hear more about it.
I have drastically cut back on my pizza intake when we get it. Instead of 4 or more pieces I will eat either one or two and instead of a whole pack of crazy bread with extra parmesan and butter, I will eat 1 or 2 pieces of crazy bread just the way it comes with no extras added.
Sounds like you've done a great job adapting to a healthy lifestyle and your needs and still enjoying pizza and having it in the house. :thumbsup2 Treating ourselves is part of a healthy lifestyle. :goodvibes
I'm in. My weight is way back up and my new clothes aren't fitting so well anymore. ERGH!
I did have a great time with my running group this spring. Another session starts week after next. This time I am doing the 10k group. Even though I am super slow and usually quite a ways behind the pack they got me to do things I never thought possible -- like run for 4 minutes at a time and run in all sorts of weather. They really did push me outside my comfort zone to where the magic happens! :cool2:
Everyone have a happy healthy Wednesday and don't forget those :woohoo:
Good morning! My WooHoo Wednesday always seems to be the same, but I'll take it...fitness/health related, I got up and ran. It was SO HOT this morning, and I almost talked myself out of it, but instead I let myself sleep just a little longer and then went. I was still back before DH left to take DDs to their day camp. I'm feeling so much better for having gotten out there!
Non-health/fitness related, we're taking the girls to see Earth to Echo tonight. One of my favorite things about summer vacation is the relaxed schedule - no homework/afterschool activities means we can decide to hit a Wednesday movie...so off we go! Dinner and a movie at our local Alamo Drafthouse. I hope they like it...
Woo Hoo!!!!
This is not food or exercise related and I don't usually openly admit this but...I have been struggling with bipolar/depression/anxiety/anger issues lately. I am always always angry. Everything sets me off. I finally got my butt up and went back to the doctor for a med adjustment. Hoping to feel better soon because I know when my emotions are all over the place, it's not healthy. My goal is to lose weight, get healthy and feel better about myself. Getting back to the real me by admitting I needed a med change is a big step in getting healthy.
Just wanted to say that I think it's wonderful you were comfortable sharing this with us and that I'm so glad you spoke up with your doctor when your current regiment wasn't working. I have a friend who struggles with bipolar, and she has gone uber-public about it in an effort to put mental health care in the same bucket as physical health care. All best wishes to you!
I'm in some weird kind of spring cleaning mood today. I know, it's summer...maybe it's because my university's new fiscal year started yesterday, and I have a New Year's kind of feeling going on...usually, that hits around September, which feels more like a new year to me than January ever does! Whatever's driving it, I'll take it - I seem to be making slow progress in actually clearing/organizing some homeless boxes in the house...that counts as a strength workout, right? :rotfl:
Howdy folks!
QOTD Wednesday, July 2, 2014: It's Woo Hoo Wednesday! Give yourself a big "woo hoo" for helping yourself to be healthy and share something that you did this week to help you with your goals. Hopefully you don't feel like you've been on the wildest ride in the wilderness!;)
This week..... hmmmmm.... gotta think about it.
Hello ladies, I am in for July. Congrats to all who made or got closer to their goals in June. Let's continue the great work! And welcome to all who are doing this challenge for the first time.
I am having a hard time ATM because I had to put my kitty to sleep yesterday. He got very sick very quickly after a diagnosis of FIP, an incurable viral illness last week. I have been spending most of my time taking care of him or worrying about him, so I have not exercised or really watched diet in 5 days. :worried::( Hopefully I can recommit tomorrow.
To a better month this month.
I am SO SORRY that you had to make that tough decision!! I'm a kitty lover myself and (thankfully) have only had to make that call once or twice in my life. What is it about those fur babies that makes them wrap around your heart so tight? :hug: from both me and my :cat:
Morning all! Another warm one here today!! I'm up and moving, but not very quickly. I really should have a load of wash out already, but I haven't even started it yet. And I MUST get my car into the shop today for an oil change an yearly inspection (which was supposed to be done in June...:blush:). And I am currently driving with an expired license.... so I guess I know what I SHOULD be doing today......now to just get out there and DO IT!
DH is on vacation this week and I know he intended to get so much done.... but he can be a bit of procrastinator AND this hot weather is making us all feel lethargic, so I'm sure he will need to be prodded a bit to be productive, although I know he has a plan in his head for today.
Off to start laundry, pay some bills, and then get out the door to the dreaded DMV!!................P
