WISH Away The Pounds ~ Achieving in April ~ All are WELCOME!

QOTD:
Don't condemn your imperfections...
This resonates with me because this is something I struggle with all the time! It is hard for me to forgive myself or accept times when I slip up without a lot of guilt. I am working now to understand why I slip up so I can really make changes, as well as working to accept these hiccups on the road to success wothout beating myself up or letting myself give up on the journey!

I think you are on to something and the secret to long lasting change! :thumbsup2

These four resonate with me the most. I tend to have a problem with trying to do everything and doing it perfect. This creates anxiety and stress. I'm trying to slow down and enjoy all the little (and big) moments. I'm also trying to let things go with the help of DH. So he forgot to give DSs a fruit in their lunch but let them have cookies & a granola bar? At least he packed their lunches and I didn't have to. I'm a progress in work :lmao:

Aren't we all! :goodvibes

For those of you struggling with no scale change despite serious exercise and eating modifications...here are two tips a dear friend gave to me today and will put it to the test..

We want to keep muscle while lowering calories, to help that happen do the two following changes for faster scale changes!

Eat a portion of protein with a carbohydrate or fat, but NOT both...
Chicken and salad (But NO dressing)
Chicken and alfredo sauce or pesto sauce but NO Carbohydrate
Chicken and brown rice but NO fats
Etc...

Avoid all sugars except in fruits, and if you eat a fruit try to incorporate some small form of protein with it...teaspoon of peanut butter with banana, cheese with apple, etc..

Try it a week...the way a body digests these foods helps maximize loss :)

Interesting. Be sure and let us know how that works. :thumbsup2

Hey. Doing Ok. Finally caught up a little today on my lunch on my phone so sorry for not replying to your very kind responses regarding Sunny. I'd been very stoic until last night when Misty kept meowing and looking around for her darn it then I had my cry out with Misty. She was so cute trying to play with me and make me laugh. She's so young. She's fine today though and the other 2 kittens are so fat and healthy it's impossible to have any worry about them. They are 3 weeks today and are walking around shakily and playing.
Tomorrow's my birthday so I will have nachos for dinner-- my favorite place-- and the free birthday Margarita lol. I'll try to watch my eating earlier and be sure to work out.

Thanks for the happiness list Lisa-- it really helped me reading it on lunch today. :goodvibes:grouphug:

:bday: party: Happy, happy birthday, Susan. Hope you have a magical day!

Good morning! Hope everyone had a decent weekend.

I want to comment on struggling with loss. It is OK. Weight loss is not always "textbook". Plus if you find you have hit a plateau then you probably should make some changes to the routine.

I will say that doing strength training + cardio is helping me. I am actually having muscles defined in my body now and I can FEEL the strength as I walk upstairs, for example. It is a very odd feeling.

Now I am NO where near any type of perfection of course, I am working on getting back to good health and being normal.

So to answer QOTD....

My long term goal is to be able to exercise fully with walking, some running, cardio, and weight training by this fall. I think that is a realistic goal.

Our city is building a recreation center and THAT is one of my motivations!!! When it finally opens and I join, I want to walk in and be able to USE all the brand new pieces of equipment.

The place is going to be about 1 minute from my house. I will be able to go everyday.:yay:

QOTD Monday, April 15, 2013: It's motivational Monday, which of these ideas can you put to use this week to motivate yourself? Or do you have another great idea that keeps you motivated?

I have been struggling with this for the past week, so thank you for this QOTD!

My motivation has always been the end result. Envisioning what I will look and feel like when I hit goal... but I have the gun changing my mind set to thinking it needs to be more about the journey. I need to be focusing on feeling when I am feeling right now at this moment, being proud of my accomplishments as they come, and being motivated that this is something I want to maintain doing for the rest of my life. To live a happy and healthy life :goodvibes:

Happy Birthday 50s Lady! :) Nachos sounds DIVINE!!!! :) Now you have me questioning my one cheat meal for the month...was going to go to Five Guys Burgers but now a Taco Salad and nachos sounds heavenly! :) Enjoy that Margarita, too!!! YUM!

On Motivation...oh me, what does NOT motivate me?? Perhaps my cravings are the only demotivator I have...

I WANT to fit into my dream jeans.

I WANT to be able to be that ACTIVE person, who just ENJOYS going for a 3 hour hike.

I WANT to be that mother/wife who is tireless, strong, and positive.

I WANT to be that servant who can meet the needs I'm called to fill.

I NEED to lose weight and I will give it MY ALL these next 5 months!! Only 9 days into it, but those are 9 hard worked and good eating days! :) Only about 147 more to go!! :)

I'll be back tomorrow with my answer and replies. Have a great evening all! :goodvibes

OK so I marked the ones in Red above that I'd like to try.. I recently tried cabbage and JUST LOVE IT and think brussel sprouts are pretty good too..

Our group seems to be struggling a bit this lately so today's list is one to help us remember to take time and smell the flowers. :hippie: And a little pixiedust: doesn't hurt either. ;)

100 Ways To Be Happy

QOTD Sunday, April 14, 2013: Do any of these reminders about happiness resonate with you in particular? Or do you have an item of your own to add?

Be back later with replies.

10. Don't close your heart so tightly against life's pain that you shut out life's blessings.

Ok this one is for me.. my ex cheated on me not just once but twice.. but I lived - well sort of, I don't think you really ever get over that feeling of not being good enough and for 10 years I said I was happy and pretended to be to everyone I know and then I took a chance - it didn't work out with that guy but it opened the door for HUBS.. I am so greateful that I was brave enough to take another chance.. I adore him and he me.. I count my blessings everyday for that..

Good morning all! :goodvibes

I will post the QOTD today and come back for replies later.

Since I am coaching you know you are going to find yourself with a little sparkpeople.com article, right? ;) And since it is Monday that means it's Motivational Monday.

5 Signs It's Time to Get Real About Weight Loss

It's easy to say that you want to lose weight. It's also easy to find the motivation to hit the gym regularly and choose the right foods in the beginning. After a few weeks, our motivation seems to wane and those old, unhealthy habits of yours start to creep back in. What seemed so easy at first is now difficult. You have cravings. You're tired. You miss those social dinners with your friends and doughnuts at the office. That 6 a.m. aerobics class doesn't seem as fun, and getting up without hitting the snooze button seems impossible.

Sound familiar? So many of us have fallen into this yo-yo diet and exercise trap over the years. You decide you want to lose weight, start a program, and even start to see some results and then&life gets in the way. Before you know it, you're off your healthy living plan again. While SparkPeople has the tools and resources that make weight loss fun and upliftinga true lifestyle changeyou still need to commit to using them. You have to commit now and, well, forever. You have to choose to change your life, both when life is breezy and when things aren't going your way. Whether you have 5 pounds or 150 pounds to lose, you have to get serious if you're ever going to reach your goals.

Sign #5: You're envious of others who have lost weight.Make yourself a priority!

QOTD Monday, April 15, 2013: It's motivational Monday, which of these ideas can you put to use this week to motivate yourself? Or do you have another great idea that keeps you motivated?
I always had fit into #5! so I am now making myself a priority!

My 1st motivation is I want to get off my once a week diabetes shot I inject into my thigh each Saturday - it hurts and I don't like to do it... so that is pretty motivating for me but also ......
My motivation #2 is "I want to look GOOD wearing CUTE summer dresses this year" I have so far lost 2 sizes and bought my first "cute" outfit -- a white eyelet shortsleeve shirt and a knee length flowery skirt.. it's tight but by month end it will be perfect!!

I love your questions of the day!

Oh yea :bday: Susan!

:grouphug::grouphug: Hugs and Pixie dust:wizard: to everyone who might need it! (very sorry to hear that the baby kitty didn't make it.)

Hello everyone.......Happy Birthday Susan,,,hope you really enjoy the nachos..I would!!

And whoever mentioned Five Guys, please stop.......I miss them soooo much. Good news (or bad depending on how you look at it) for me is that apperently they are opening in the UK in the near future...about 200 miles away!!

So, motivational monday eh......what motivates me is the realisation that I'm getting older and the fitter I am, the easier it will be to continue to live the way I want to. I really enjoy camping and don't want to give up because I'm too heavy or unfit to get up off the floor, I want to be able to walk a full day at Disney, not waste half of it resting because I'm tired and out of breath!

I think I've finally realised that the key to this is in my own hands.......I can only do it for me!

First: Happy Birthday Susan!!!!

Second: Sorry for having disappeared. I guess I just got so annoyed with nothing happening that I took a little break. Not from healthy eating, but a little bit from exercising. I still walked my hour every day, but that was it. I guess I went into what I would hope would be maintenance mode. And it worked. Did not gain during the last week. And as of today I am back! Only a little over a week until vacation now, but I am going to make the best use of that little time. I am not expecting big change, but this way I am laying the foundation for returning to the weight loss journey immediately after the vacation.

I started week 3 of the Ripped in 30 DVD today - it is totally crazy!! Level 3 of 30 DS pales in comparison. I was so weak afterwards. Normally I only get pudding legs - today I was like pudding all over. I did not even have the strength to keep my legs straight when I was stretching. But now I am feeling great!!

I also tried on a few clothes for the vacation and am realizing that I am at a point where I like what I see in the mirror. There is still a lot of room for improvement, but I feel like I don't look overweight anymore. That's such a huge step! And now I just can't let that make me less motivated about losing more, but instead I need to use this as the positive foundation to build on!!

Third: QOTD!
Won't try to catch up and jump just in with today. Which fits in so well, with what I just wrote about above. For me the one thing I learned to work to my advantage is #4: I do tend to give up easily - but then I just need to get back on track. The thing that motivates me is that giving up does not mean failure - it just means a momentary lapse of good judgement. And I can get back on track, it is just my choice!

Another thing that motivates me is how much more comfortable I am in my own body already. Not just mentally, but truly physically. Having gained strength, I feel that I have more control over what I am doing. Also, I am just more comfortable as there is less fat in the way. I am sure I am going to be very happy about this when I have to sit in that economy class seat on the plane across the Atlantic for 9.5 hours!

Welcome home!:cool1: thanks for the warning on Ripped! Congrats on feeling not overweight! That is huge! Have a safe flight and enjoy this break!

Evening all! Just wanted to pop on and say HI and let you know I haven't disappeared! Just crazy busy life, as usual. And now, with the Boston Marathon news, I'm kind of glued to my TV this afternoon. :sad2:

I hope you all are fine and well and that life is treating you good. I hope you have continued on this path to healthy living and that you are managing to fight past any struggles along the way. I am making a supreme effort to bump up my physical activity, at least a little bit this week. Fingers crossed that it helps.

I am hoping to have time to chat a bit tonight while watching DWTS, but please forgive me if I don't. Between my regular day job and the training for my new job, plus a full week regular swim schedule, orthodontist appointments, robotics meetings, etc, I'm going full tilt. The only reason I am home right now is because DH took DD to swim tonight so that I was able to work today and take DS to the orthodontist.

Off to set the table for dinner with DH and DD when they get home (hopefully soon.... I'm starving!).........................P

I will be responding in chunks tonight, as I have time!

So as much as I ate last night, I'm down 1/2 a pound this morning. :confused3

Pamela, thanks for the info. I wasn't sure about the fruits because according to my chiro (he did ideal protein diet) fruits were considered carbs. I'm avoiding dairy this weekend for sure.

Well... WOOHOO on the half pound!

I would definitely say YES to whole fruits..... but not juices (although whole fruit in smoothies is okay). I think it is good for the fiber and for keeping you from craving sweets! Try to aim for the lower carb/higher fiber fruits such as blueberries, raspberries, and strawberries. Grapefruit, of course, is known for its fat-burning qualities (or so I've heard ;)). Probably watch (or eliminate) the higher sugar fruits such as bananas, pineapple, oranges, mango. YES, fruit is basically a carb and I wouldn't load up on them later in the day, but they are a good healthy carb!

Good suggestion on the bison. Kale chips are supposed to be very good, too, but I to confess I've never tried them.

I have made kale chips a few times. They are tasty but a bit like eating salted air.... they are very light.... sort of like eating roasted seaweed (if you've ever tried that).

Ooo, veggie burgers -- thanks for the reminder, Pamela! :goodvibes

Do you have a favorite brand/type???

It was an exciting morning here because I was able to finally book my excursions for our cruise in June. It makes it much more real now. :boat:

Everyone have a great Super Saturday and I will be back later.

Oh my heavens to Betsy.... JUNE will be here before you know it! I'm so jealous I could DIE!!:yay:

Susan, I'm so sorry to hear about Sunny, but you know you did your best for her. Sometimes things just aren't meant to be. Good that your other two are doing OK.

My mum is off her oxygen and back home with an extra strength asthma inhaler and some antibiotics. She looked a lot better today when we went to the hospital, think it's given her a bit of a scare though. They let her go home at 6:00pm, so we picked her up and took her home. We're only 20 minutes away if she needs us, but she just wanted a good nights sleep in her own bed. Will check on her in the morning.

Had a good day food wise considering the circumstances, and got some Almond Breeze unsweetened almond milk to try and make a rice pudding with tomorrow.

SO glad to her that your mum is better and home! Thank heavens. Hope she continues to heal every day.

Love to hear how the rice pudding turned out!

And PAM I would love some of those low carb treat recipes you have!

I wasn't on the computer all weekend, so I forgot to send them along. I'll make myself a note to do it asap!

Thank you for the reminder Pam! It is sometimes hard to remember that this is a journey... a lifelong journey... and not a destination! Determination and persistence are really the key! :thumbsup2

Glad I could help.

SUSAN..... I am SO sorry hear about Sunny! You certainly did suspect there was an issue. We had a kitty for less than 24 hours a few summers ago (found her in the road) and had to have her put down due to severe flea anemia and I cried right there at the Emergency Vet's office.... so I can only imagine how attached you got... especially since you were hand feeding her. As one Kitty Momma to another.....

Caught up to here! .................................P

Did anyone catch the Vitamix presentation on QVC yesterday? Very cool and expensive though. I think some of you use them here?

It does look like a great way to get your fruits and veggies in a drink form.

Our progress post has been update! ;yay: Great work everybody! And for those of us who are struggling (myself included)... and let's keep on keepin on!

Please let me know if I have missed you!

Good morning all.

Like many people in the WISH community I have been caught up in the tragic events at the Boston Marathon yesterday.

I will share with you something written by one of our own WISH folks, Panda Dave, aka Windwalker

Hoist The Colors!

We call ourselves brothers and sisters, we endurance athletes. We are the gold standard in getting along with our peers from the world over and treating each other with respect. We are the example of courage, we are the cure and the antidote for the ills that plague the people of the world.

Now let's show that we transcend the fallacy of race and regardless of our personal nationality that we are indeed brothers and sisters. Let's show that we endurance athletes the world over are expressing our displeasure at this horrible act of terror and that we honor our dead and wounded brothers and sisters at Boston.

Tomorrow (4/16) wear a race shirt to work. If you work for a company that won't allow it then wear your race shirt as an under shirt. Show your solidarity and express your disgust at this type of terrorism. Let the world see and hear our message. I'm sending this request to the International Athletic Alliance and to club sites around the world.

Rather than have a QOTD today I am asking all of us to take a few moments and think of the victims and their families and to be grateful that we are part of this wonderful WISH community and the community of those in a quest for a healthy lifestyle.

Thanks for the 63%. ;) I don't think I am going to maintain that weight but it was nice to see it on the scale.

Good morning to all! :cool1: Rainy here with a typical spring pattern.

PT today thank goodness. It is nice to have someone force you to do stuff at times.:rolleyes1

Watching the news is so depressing with everything going on. I ended up EATING too many calories after dinner. Just sad watch all the stories.:worried:

Anyway, I can't use others misery as my excuse. Must find my center and focus.

HUGS to all of us.

Good morning. :)
Still here. Not doing perfectly, but hanging in there. I had ice cream for dinner last night--not the best choice (lol) but it was a tough day.

Happy Birthday Susan! :)

The scale is moving just a little bit for me, so I am thrilled! Just to need to keep some focus. Mike and I are running this afternoon. Hopefully the weather will cooperate and we will make it outside.

Have a great Tuesday.:goodvibes

Hey. Had a nice dinner really--didn't do too bad, got the vegetarian nachos with black beans.
Yeah I turned on the tv to watch a little of The Doctors yesterday while I was getting ready to go to the gym and caught the coverage of the marathon. Thought a lot about our runners here...
Kittens are starting to want to explore a bit (well Hazy is) I need to go get non clumping litter and some more cat/kitten canned food so Misty can interest them in it if she wants. Kittens will eat the clumping litter and it expands in their stomach. As soon as I get the new litter I'll let them meander out of the closet. They seem to be regulating their body temp. ok. Misty never uses the litterbox in there anyway lol I think she waits until in dire need and runs out to use the closest one out of the bedroom lol.
Gonna go work out, go get my tattoo, (!) and I have a steward meeting tonight so also a little hectic here.

TTFN

Hi everybody!:wave2: Just have a moment to pop in but I'll be back later. Came down with a nasty cold  last week and spent 4 days in bed. Then of course the past 2 days were spent trying to catch up at work.:surfweb: Looks like I have alot to catch up on, but I'm still here! ::yes::

Oh my goodness... you guys are going to think I fell off the earth! I'm so sorry I never made it back on last night! And of course, no internet access at work today and now I'm off to the Y for a workout.... and normally I would have some chat time while I'm there waiting for DD.... but tonight I have to take a conference call for my new job! Can't catch a break in my schedule!

Hoping you all are well. I'll try to be back soon, but no promises.............P
