Winter Boots Advice

I am considering breaking down and spending the money for a pair of good, warm winter boots. I currently use hiking boots that come up over my ankle, but I swear last year I was freezing all the time, and the snow would get up over them...

So, does anyone have any advice as to what brand to look at? I would want something that is taller than ankle high and nothing with heels, as I am often toting a 2 year old and me + heels + ice = bad scene waiting to happen! Oh, and I am willing to pay $$, but not outrageous would be nice.

I have LLBean hiking boots and previous to that I had EMS Hiking Boots. I love both of them... about $150ish.

They both served well in Chicago Winters.

Yep, that is what I have currently. But my ankles always wind up all snowy when shoveling. I love my Bean boots when it is cold and icy, but in snow they just are ok.

I had a pair of LL Beans it took me 12 years to wear out from trips to the Grand Canyon, hiking in Hawaii and winters in NH. I purcahsed my 2nd pair 2 years ago.

Oh and for walking in snow and ice I recommend a pair of YakTrax.

Hated Sorels- they never kept my feet warm, even the ones that were suppose to be below 0

I only wear Columbia's now, I have the Titanium Ice Crushettes, and 3 pair of buggabooto's. Top image buggaboooto and bottom the Crushette's

i swear by the buggabootos. they are the best boots i ever owned and i love them to death! keep my feet warm and dry and are so comfy. i'd say try them!

Actually the Bugabooto is one of the ones I am considering, also Bugalicious

I am trying to find a place around here where I can try these on. There is a winter sports shop down in the commercial district and I may see if they have them there just to see how they fit.

I've never worn northface boots, however I know their winter coats have a lifetime warranty.

The one thing I like about the Bugg's- Say I'm going out to do firewood- it's usually muddy cold and wet. I put on a pair of my quilted carhart jeans, and a pair of buggs- the pants go over the top of the buggs- and it looks like I have hiking boots on, because the boots are not big and bulky.

A friend of mine from Kansas came to VT for the first time last year, and went home with a pair of bugg's. LOL...Course, seeing the 10 pair lined up in the hallway outside was probably the reason- both DD's have Columbia boots too.

Columbia sizing in shoes, I"ve found to be true. I wear a 7 1/2 and my boots are 8's so I can wear thicker socks, and still have room for my toes to move. Remember, to keep your toes warm, they have to be able to move around
