we have reservations for March- would like to try the wines that are part of the "pairings" but I don't think husband and I can drink that much in one meal- is it OK to just ask for one glass and we share the wine? hence only being charged for one- but its not about the money its about the alcohol!!

one person can get the wine pairing and the other person and help them drink it. I think they actually used to split it for you into two glasses but they don't do that any more. My son and I each got the pairing when we went and yes, it was wayyyyyyyy too much for me. My son did finish a couple of my glasses and no one batted an eye about it.

It's certainly too much wine.

Splitting the pairing has worked for us.

Typically, my wife & I order a bottle of Champagne to start the meal and ask the Waiters/Servers to save some to then enjoy with some of the dessert (always at least one soufflé).

Between courses, I might want a glass of white, she might want a glass of red....because V&A has some excellent ($$$) selections by the glass.

But honestly, all those wines with the pairing - it's just too much.

We did just as you described when we went last January. I had two old fashioneds over the course of the meal along with splitting with wine pairing with my wife, and it was still definitely a lot of alcohol for both of us!

How much wine is it?
Glass, after glass, after glass. It must have been 5 or 6 glasses plus champagne, and they were generous pours, to say the least. DH & I were well and truly plastered. :jester: We both said never again (to the wine pairings, not to V&A).

Wow!

Thanks! I like the idea of wine pairings but that does sound like too much--especially because I would love to get a pre-dinner cocktail while listening to the band/piano player in the lobby. If they allow us to split a pairing, we might do that...plus LOTS of water!

We have never found it to be too much wine, but we also aren't adding other cocktails or other drinks to our meal.
If we did, then it would be too much in total.
