Wine & Dine 1/2 marathon weekend 2021

Bad news for people staying at Swan Reserve (such as myself). I just got the following from rD:

Dear Jim,

Thank you for reaching out to us to help you plan for the Wine & Dine Half Marathon Weekend.

We appreciate your interest in using our transportation during your time with us. The Walt Disney World Swan Reserve will provide transportation during the event weekend.

Kind Regards,

Mariana

How is this bad news?

Swan and Dolphin have always had Disney race transport. If Swan Reserve does not have Disney Race transport, then whatever transport they provide will have to drop off elsewhere. It will just be less convenient. To be honest, I was expecting that we were going to be told to go over to Swan and take the race transport there. It’s always at the convention center entrance there, which isn’t that far of a walk from Swan Reserve, and Swan Reserve is a small, new hotel. I doubt many runners are even staying there. Still, 2:30 AM is early enough as it is 😢

I think the confusion is that the note says "The....Reserve WILL provide transportation" I expect it is supposed to read WILL NOT.

That would not make sense in the context of the question I asked. I asked “I normally stay at Swan or Dolphin and there’s always been race transportation from both resorts. This year I’ll be staying at Sean Reserve. Will there be race transportation from the Swan Reserve?” I did not explicitly state “DISNEY race transportation because Swan and Dolphin are called out as Host Resorts under Transportation in the Runners Guide.

I am eager for the final guide to come out. There’s a disclaimer under transportation that says that monorail and skyliner will not be available during wine and dine half marathon weekend. The asterisk is on the chart by transportation from host resorts to the start line, but the wording makes it sound like it won’t be available at all that weekend. There is also no asterisk or explanation in that chart at all about any transportation FROM finish line TO host resorts (which is what I’m interested in using the monorail for after the race). I know in past years the monorail had been running towards the end of the race as some in my family were late one year and saw me from the monorail on their way to the finish line.

The Swan Reserve is included in the normal Swan & Dolphin Disney transportation, as well as most other perks of Disney reports, so I would be very surprised if it doesn't have race transportation. I take their answer as saying there's nothing to worry about, you'll have race transportation from the Swan Reserve. I'm booked there for Marathon weekend, so I sure hope that's the case!

Swan and Dophin stopped using Disney transportation and now contract their own transportation to the parks. Not sure what that means for race weekend, but on a normal day now it isn't Disney transportation to/from Swan and Dolphin (unless it changed back and I missed that).

I'm here now and they're still using their own. But another option would be a slightly longer walk to Boardwalk, Yacht Club or Beach Club. I've stayed at BWV for races with family at Swan and they were able to come get on the bus with me. Nobody asks or checks where you're staying.

I think you’re reading way too much into this response. You asked RunDisney if Swan Reserve was going to have race transport. They said yes. The only way they’d be able give you a yes is if RunDisney was providing the transport. They‘re not going to have information on outside hotel transportation. I read this response as “yes, Swan Reserve will have race transportation just like Swan.” I could be misinterpreting, but I’d be very surprised if they don’t share transportation.

I think you are probably right. Anyway, I will know for sure in a few weeks. The swan convention center is just across the street.

What they’re saying is that the monorail and SkyLiner won’t be running at 2:30 AM. I’m sure you can hop on them after the race, when they start their normal operations.

When Epcot opens at 11, what time does the monorail normally start running?

Has anyone done a rideshare (Uber, lift) to the races? How’s the availability/pricing that early in the morning? Are road closures an issue for them?

Nothing active yet... but this seems new (to me, at least)

This is a great new feature, if it works well! One less thing to worry about getting ready to head to Disney. No paper to keep track of.

Does the "Expo Check-in Pass" imply that the eBay resellers will not be able to get in (unless they bought a bib)? Or will they still be able to enter the merchandise area?

In a perfect world just the area with venders/shirt pick up would be the only area open to the public

the “expo check in pass” is just the new waver system so that they know it’s you getting your bib

I wonder if they are just changing what we are used to calling ‘corrals’ to ‘starting groups’. 🤷‍♀️
I think "Starting Groups" is the new mini-waves. It'll just be structured now.

I hate to sound negative, but rD has a tack history of being a hot mess when they try something new (see the inaugural Dark Side weekend transportation disaster, the change in time and route for the 2020 marathon, etc.) I am not at all convinced this idea of "wait until we call your starting group to enter the corral" is going to work as intended. I mean, I think everyone will all eventually get going - I'm just not sure it's going to be easy, lol! I've rarely been able to hear the call to corrals before, so I have little expectation that I'll catch a specific group being called. Pretty sure I'm not alone on that.
