Wine and Dine Half Marathon Weekend (Oct. 31-Nov. 3, 2024)

Great people and great cast members along the course. Some truly amazing people! People you’d like to have daily in your life. Everyone needs a cheerleader
Definitely, all the volunteers were great. I do think runDisney needed to do better at the water stops late in the race, they were down to just one or two tables of water and it was hard to get at

I’ve got a ticket available for sale as well if anyone is still looking

It was brutally hot out, and I was undertrained from work getting in the way, but I did it and had a great time! Starting from corral A was such a difference from my usual C.
I really need a nap, which is not happening. Planning on going to the party tonight, but I’m not sure how long I’ll last.

I know this is a typical complaint, but I’m annoyed about the 5k corral placement. My son’s anticipated pace is 12-14, and he got placed in E. So now we’ll be waiting around forever, and then spend the whole race dodging people. What’s the point of asking people their anticipated pace if they’re just going to assign people randomly anyways?
We got E as well, with anticipated pace of 12-14 minutes (ended up doing about a 13:47 pace). I thought maybe everyone 12 minutes or slower got E since D and E corrals were so huge.

Floridian here, who’s trained through the worst of the summer heat… how I felt today was on par with the first TOT 10-Miler, but with the addition of a scorching sun. I have NEVER felt that awful from heat before. It’s only the second time I’ve taken a bag of ice on course… and I took another from medical after the finish. I genuinely do not know why it felt so bad to me.

And I’ll second the surprising amount of hills - I do a lot of stair running to prep for the “hills” of WDW because nothing where I live compares, but my poor quads are trashed.

As long as I’m whining, I’ll add that the course congestion was at least as bad as the worst I’ve previously experienced, and maybe worse (I started in the 2nd corral within a corral of D). It just never let up. I had maybe 10 minutes total in which I was able to move at my own pace.

And here’s the thing: added to the stress of 3 hurricanes in a row hitting where I live, I was not at all in a good headspace for a perfect race: a much less than perfect one was honestly just really unpleasant. First time I’ve ever finished and started crying because it was so lousy.

I’m genuinely glad others had a much better time! I won’t risk registering for the half again: it’s just too much added onto at is always the worst of hurricane season for the Gulf coast. But I’ll consider the 5 or 10.

I was undertrained due to a sprained ankle and an upper respiratory infection, both in the past two months. I was disappointed with the extra hour of sleep; I would have preferred running an hour earlier before the sun came up. Since I had a proof-of-time, I got to start in C. My only redeeming factor is that I out-paced captain jack. I even slowed down at the end hoping to finish with him, but he must have stopped for photos.

I felt they did a great job with the hydration stops. At least when I went through there were not bottlenecks, they had more than enough tables and water available.

It was tough to deal with humidity and the bright sun tough.. I really need to get faster to finish earlier next year:).. will see

I travelled with a group of friends who were doing their first rD event, and they left wanting to come back, they were very happy with the experience, entertainment and logistics :)… so now into monitoring Telegram for Princess spots :)

I didn't take ice from medical, but I recycled a discarded bag after seeing someone else do it. It helped a bit with the heat, but it couldn't do a thing for my feet. I wish they'd add more tables or benches to the other part of the finish area--I want to sit down somewhere other than the ground, but I don't want to have to walk away from the buses to the tables or bleachers, and then have to walk all the way back.

I run during the summer when it’s 75 degrees and 98% humidity. Today definitely felt worse. I think the lack of a breeze and the moisture from the rain the night before just made it feel especially swampy. I was so sweaty that my feet were pruned from being in wet socks. The 2020 marathon was objectively hotter, but this felt hotter because it was tougher to cool off your core temperature through sweating.

I was glad to see you on the course @Naomeri I couldn’t talk because I lost my DD at a pic stop. We both thought the other was behind and I walked a 20 minute mile so she could get caught up. Then she texted she was a mile ahead and I had to sprint to get caught up. Of course a sprint for me running while sick at mile 7 was three 11:30 miles; some would call that a brisk walk but that’s all I had in the tank.

That was a rough race. I was over a minute above my expected pace and my 10k time.

The course was fine-ish, but I miss the AK days.

We stayed at Old Key West, hoping to avoid race traffic delays and the trip to EPCOT still took 45min. I guess there’s no way out. Maybe next year, I’ll take the Wilderness Lodge boat to MK, the monorail to the TTC and then monorail to EPCOT. Maybe that’ll be faster.

I don't think they were running boats that early.

We stayed at Ft. Wilderness and after the trip to the expo took so long (golf cart to bus stop, bus stopped at Wilderness Lodge and Contemporary), we splurged for the Minnie van. Expensive, but worth it for us. It was just an 6-8 minute wait and they had a booster seat for my 8 year old.

Ugh…

We stayed at OKW specifically because when they changed the course, the trip from WL / CC was 1.5hrs.

Maybe I'm crazy but I thought the weather was awesome for the races . I definitely started out easy-ish for the half after going harder for the 10k, and stopped for most of the characters. There was zero lines being in A corral. I think my only wait was 2 people for Mike and Sully. The photographer at Chip and Dale wasn't even ready for me, I'm assuming since they were so close to the finish not many people before me stopped.

Definitely had a lot left in the tank at the end of the half!

Start time and pace makes a HUGE difference: I assure you, starting from mid-ish D with a 3:20:00 time, that last hour in full sun was BRUTAL! I was fine up until then. Faster runners have a very different experience than those of us pulling up the rear!
