Wine and Dine Half Marathon Weekend (Oct. 31-Nov. 3, 2024)

3 buses waiting at Movies at 2:32. The bus driver asked the attendant, and it sounds like they started loading at 2:22 yesterday

For the first time, we had 2 buses waiting at Boardwalk when we showed up at 2:15. They didn’t let us start boarding until almost 2:30 though, but it was definitely an improvement over getting the leftover spots from yatch and beach club.
And then we show up at Epcot and security was still closed.

Good luck to everyone running today! Hoping it’s not too hot and humid!

Thrilled with this one, wanted a PR but in the conditions standing up at the end is considered a win. I stayed ahead of the 1:45 pacers, time to celebrate!

Congratulations to all the runners! Great to see you again. If I don’t see anyone around the parks, I’m looking forward to MW

Mentally, I think this course is tough because once you are out of the parks, which happens early in the race, there really aren’t any landmarks to check off. During the marathon I can keep myself going by knowing where each section of the course is mileage wise based on the park. The current W&D course from miles 5 to 12 is highway to highway to on-ramp to highway to on-ramp to highway to overpass to highway. Disney needs to have an Atreyu character along this stretch pulling Artax out of the Swamp of Sadness.

It was definitely warm and humid this morning, but I didn’t find it to be terrible. Maybe this is where the summer afternoon training pays off.

I started out at the easy recovery pace I’ve been sticking to this weekend and things were going smoothly. I ran into @garneska on the Boardwalk and ran an interval set with her before heading on to Hollywood Studios. I really enjoyed that stretch of the race. It was the longest I’ve ever spent in that park on a race course and they had some fun characters out.

After DHS, though, things got tedious pretty quickly on the highways and ramps. Around mile 6-7 I finally just said “screw this, let’s go” and started turning up the pace. I kept pushing the pace until the end, coming in just over 2:21, significantly faster than the 2:45-2:50 I went in expecting/planning.

All in all, I had a good time this weekend!

@Kerry1957 I hope you made it through and are feeling better!

I think that was the hilliest rundisney race I’ve ever done! Felt them all for sure but all my training is flat, flat, flat so not unexpected. Def humid but felt like all my summer running, so yay?

Went out without a strategy and it showed. But had fun and got lots of pics on the course. Those A corral people don’t stop much for pictures which makes the lines almost nonexistent! And now that I’ve had a taste of the front of the pack, I might have to be chasing those top level POTs!

Enjoyed seeing everyone each morning at the meetups. I’ll be seeing y’all in January.

@Dopey 2020 congrats! Great job with the PR. I agreed with you the conditions might not be good enough for that. I did not think it was terrible until the sun was high and bright so for me about mile 10 with those stupid hills.

I finished. My knee hurts but it’s not blown up. I am looking forward to 10k training and moving my intervals to try and get a little faster again. @Disney at Heart you guys finished faster than me but one minute time from me. I was at the med tent getting ice or I am sure i would have seen you.

The was my longest Disney half by moving time (3:30:42) and by overall time (4:21:31). I stopped for a few minutes just past the med tent after the 10 mile mark because a lady stopped in the grass and needed a medic, so I waited until they got to her.

I did a little marathon weekend practice and stopped for a treat (popcorn and coke) in Epcot to finish with.

OP here. What a fun time! I was worried about the race, especially with the expected temps and the newbie runners. It was hot but didn’t feel it was all that bad (granted, my only reference point was 2022 W&D). We were able to stick with the Galloway pace group until we hit a narrow chokepoint with a water station. Granted, my two running partners are now sleeping and I’m hobbling around like Fred Sanford, but all in all a fun morning.
