Wine and Dine 2015

Hrm, I wasn't planning on packing any clothes in my carry on. I always book direct flights, though. Now you guys are making me paranoid. :)

Went for a walk today for the first time since my back pain on Sunday with my friend and her dogs. I let the dog I was walking with set my pace and ended up with a 16:01/mile average time. Finished up 4 miles with only a tiny bit of soreness in my back :thumbsup2 I'm going to keep icing it and taking it easy until it feels 100% again but it's healing up much faster than I expected.

As a side note, that dog was a great pacer! She helped me do a negative split (which I usually suck at because I start to fast):
Mile 1: 16:47 minutes
Mile 2: 16:41 minutes
Mile 3: 15:59 minutes
Mile 4: 15:36 minutes.

( Good to know that even if I have to walk the whole thing I can likely still stay within pacing requirements no problem. )

I only take a carry on and a large purse for these 3 to 4 day race trips. I make sure that I pack at least one of my race outfits in my purse. I wear my race sneakers onto the plane and pack a spare pair (also race ready if needed) of sneakers into my wheeled carry on. This way, no matter what I don't have to worry about lost baggage and having to wear new clothes to run a race. At first I thought it would be difficult to fit all into my carry on but it is surprisingly easy.

My waist running pack, iphone arm band, etc also go into my purse. I consolidate my wallet down to a tiny credit card carrier and I am masterful at fitting tons of toiletries (aka potions) into tiny containers to fit into the quart bag.

At this point, I just wouldn't want to have to carry more, check baggage, etc.

Since my wine and dine trip is so short, I may even try to fit everything into just a backpack instead of bothering with the wheelie.

Ugh of course the dog hurts herself and now Inhave to push my 6 off to this weekend. Why must my pups get so rowdy?!

This is my plan exactly! My last flight to Colorado in May, they lost my bag and I really, really don't want to take a chance again! My purse (drawstring park bag) will be in a backpack, along with my running clothes and shoes. Running Buddy pouch, garmin, race fuel, toiletries, etc also. This bag goes under the seat in front of me. Wearing my back up running shoes. Wheelie will have everything else for the trip, into overhead bin. We have no direct flights from Little Rock so too many chances for them to "misplace" a checked bag. Also, if my wheelie has to be gate checked and ends up misplaced I will at least have racing clothes and toiletries lol. I can always wear DD25's clothes if I have to! :)

I also will carry my race day gear with me in my backpack (we paid for a checked bag on Frontier but not a carryon). I'll just wear my running shoes on the plane, so it's really just the clothes that don't take up much room. If my checked bag gets lost, it'll suck but won't ruin my race. :)

Random question I hadn't thought of before. Ive read that AP discounts apply for race merchandise. Does it have to be a Florida WDW AP? Mine is for Disneyland, so I wasn't sure if it would work over there. I'm planning on a nope, but does anyone know for sure?

Has anyone used the Motigo app for a race before? It's an app that plays words of encouragement recorded by your friends & family throughout the race and they recently added an "audio tour" option for certain races; Wine & Dine is one of the races they have an audio tour for.

I just did carryon for Tink, but since we get DME for this one, I was looking forward to having a little more room in my suitcase for this trip, especially since I'm going solo now and won't be able to steal space from my SO's suitcase. :) Especially since I pack my foam roller... it takes up a lot of space in the carryon. :D I guess I'll wear my running shoes and put a shirt, sports bra, bottoms, and socks in my laptop bag.

This sounds pretty cool, I'm curious about it now too. Will have to check it out.

I've had 2 bags not make it on non-stop flights. The first time, I was flying American to Denver - it was non-stop for me, but the plane was continuing onto Los Angeles. My bag was put in the wrong compartment and it went to LA. The airline put it on the next flight it could to Denver and then paid for it to ride the shuttle up to Estes Park where I was working for the summer, but it was COLD and all my cold weather stuff was in the bag (I was leaving Nashville in June, so I was in shorts and a t-shirt). (Luckily the guys in the conference planning office were looking for me to get there (my dad was planning a conference out there) and they took me to the gift shop area and bought me sweats so I at least had something warm to put on.)

The second time, I was on a non-stop Southwest flight returning to Nashville from Orlando. No bag showed up on the carousel. Took the people in the missing luggage room a little while to figure out that mine was "probably" one of a few bags that had the tags ripped off of them by the equipment at the airport. They were in the process of manually matching the ID tags to passenger manifests. They would call when they had it sorted out and it got there. To add insult to injury, they called the next morning to say it was there, so I headed to the airport (thankfully only about 15 minutes from my parents' house) only to discover that while it was a bag matching the description of mine, they had not looked at the ID tag to verify which passenger it belonged to before calling - and it wasn't mine. It was about 8 hours later before they managed to get it to me.

So yeah... non-stop flights are NO guarantee of the luggage making it.

My bags will go through four flights and three countries to get there! So I'm always paranoid!!!

If my bag didn't make it off the plane it would likely just end up back in Boston. :) I am pretty sure the JetBlue flights between Boston and Orlando just go back and forth.

It's up to you obviously. Just be prepared in case something DOES happen and the bag either doesn't make it or doesn't get off the plane and you don't have it for a day or so.

Yeah, I already said in a previous post I was going to pack something. It just wasn't something I had considered until people started talking about it.

I totally though it would be like that between JFK and Orlando. Problem is they actually sent my friends bag to a different city all together. After that we all started packing a days worth of clothes in our carry on. We thankfully got the bag the next day but we had to go pick it up from JFK they wouldn't bring t to us.

Yes, that's his list. Lots of other very helpful suggestions in the posts that come after the list too. And like he mentioned, not everything on that list is needed by everyone, so don't freak out over how long the list is. I always bring the very basics in my carry-on bag (shirt, shorts, socks, shoes, Garmin, sunglasses) and figure if anything does get lost, I can replace it at the expo or local grocery store.

I miss Coach's awesome tips and encouragement!

After last year's 'Splash and Dash', any tips for being prepared for rain, just in case? :duck:
