Wine and Dine 2015

I'm staying off site at Buena Vista Suites so I'm driving over,I think my only question is since the race finishes outside Epcot would it be easier to leave things in the car and then get them or put them in the gear check bag,I guess if you're parked too far away you definitely would check your bag. What are peoples experience with bag check in this race.I know for ToT it was kind of a mess but it was also inside the park so that made my choice easy but having never done W&D I don't know.

We opted to leave our stuff in the car. Our plan, before we went through the world's longest shower, was to collect all our post race stuff (medal, food goodies, drink) and head to the car to change and wipe down with baby wipes before returning to enjoy the party. Gear check has improved since the first one, but I feel more secure having my stuff in my own vehicle. Plus I think it would be easier to change in/at my car than in the hot sweaty over crowded changing tents.

Good to know all this information! We're staying at All Star Movies, but will have a car so I guess my friends and I will chill at Epcot that night and I'll head over to WWOS. I'm having my friends carry extra clothes/wipes/etc with them when they go to the after party for me. During TOT I stayed at the party probably an hour before I started getting really tired and sick. Hopefully I can last longer this time around.

Another 30 minutes last night. These are going by really quick and easy now!

Got my 35 minutes in this morning before it got TOO hot. Skipped my step class/cross training last night... I had like a 2.5 hour meeting that ended right when I was supposed to leave for the gym, and my knee has been a little sore since last week's step class so I decided to bag and give it a little rest. I think I have a little tendonitis in my right knee... it doesn't hurt when I'm running, but the tendon (not kneecap/runner's knee) is sore after I've been sitting for a while after.

Had a 5K race on Sunday which replaced my 3 mile run... set a new adult PR! It was a nice fast course, a lot of downhill on the back half, so I think I'm going to be sad when my next 5K rolls around and my time doesn't go down. :) Although my next 5K is not until 10/11. I have a 10K maybe on 8/20, an 8K definitely on 9/12, then 5K's on 10/11 and 10/24.

Eep, 6.5 miles this weekend!

I stayed at BV Suites last year and it was an easy drive to and form the race. FYI there was no parking at all near the building by 5am; I wound up parked way, way back behind in a lot I'm not even sure belongs to BVS. I didn't see anyone lurking around and felt relatively safe, but I was definitely on high-alert walking to the building.

Back to what you asked - I did bag check and did not regret it! It's right there at the end of the finish chute, so no extra walking to the car, which could potentially be very far away (mine was.) Easy-peasy.

I took one look at the loooong line (in the pouring rain) for the changing tent and said "No." Went into EP and changed in a ladies room in the Land pavilion. It was heated and made the change into warm, dry clothes 1000x better!

Quick training update from me. Things are progressing well. We are following a training schedule for a local half that is the weekend before Wine & Dine. Not ideal to do the runs two weekends in a row, but I figure if I can do Goofy I can manage this. :)

My DH, Chris, is training for the local marathon, so I've been running the marathon training mileage instead of the half mileage. This past Saturday was scheduled for a 15-miler. I was doing well for the first 8-9 miles, but the heat and humidity just started to kick my butt, so I turned off a bit early and finished out at 12 miles. I just do not do well with high temps and humidity for these long runs. I'm ready for fall!! Anyway, things are still going according to plan so I'm happy about that. I'm thinking I'll max out my long runs at 17 miles or so and then pull back from there. I know running a half is much easier for me when I've been putting in marathon training mileage, so hoping that by doing this I can get a PR at our local half. We shall see. Glad to hear everyone is continuing to do well in their own training.

I recently had a wellness check at my dr.'s office, required to keep our insurance premiums low. The nurse called to let me know that I am "borderline" anemic. So I'm thinking that is probably why I feel so wiped out after just walk/running 2 miles! I have some iron I am going to start taking and see if it helps. I wonder how long it takes to get it into my system to make a difference in my energy levels?

On another note, people make me so mad! Someone dumped a large puppy out where I work. The poor thing is skin and bones! I would take him to one of the rescues but he is so scared he won't come to anyone. So I am giving him food and water and trying to get him used to me. I was carrying him a plate of leftover food from our cafeteria and a bowl of water and he was walking literally 1 foot behind me, but if I stopped he would run off and hide behind a tree. We are on 26 acres out here, so I'm trying to feed him in one spot so he will stay up close to my building. We will see. But I hate how cruel people can be.

I so agree Dis5150! If we could, my DH and I would open a rescue. Just heart breaking.

Thank you for helping the little guy :)

I did my 3 mile run this past weekend, I am a week behind schedule since I was on vaca so I only did 2 miles the week prior. I didnt run as much after PHM so I am starting slow with the time improvement plan and probably skipping the 17 mile run week. It has been hot here lately, into the 90's. I am usually ok in heat, but it has been cool here for months and this hit so suddenly that I am just not used to it!

Poor little guy! Hopefully he'll warm up to you soon! One of our puppies is a rescue. A friend's daughter found her (and the rest of the litter) in front of a dumpster behind the dance studio she took lessons and taught at. So sad. They had two older dogs so we took her in. She is just the sweetest dog! Breaks my heart that people could be so cruel to animals who can't defend themselves.

Struggling to get out of bed lately. I missed this mornings run after a late night of work and one child not wanting to sleep. I just couldn't get up! If I can manage I might try for a run tonight. We'll see if the weather cooperates. It's so bloody hot and humid here in FL!

Another after-party question: my family has tickets to the party but we don't have any other tickets. Would they be able to enter the party, then at some point leave EPCOT via the International Gateway, watch me run (hopefully run!) by at the EPCOT resort area, and then re-enter EPCOT? Basically can you leave and re-enter EPCOT during the party?

Yeah I chose Buena Vista Suites since its so centrally located and how convenient the rooms are.Definitely would not surprise me if I couldn't find a parking space at 5am on a Saturday night,I'll handle that situation on the fly the same as deciding if we should bag check or not,if we end up parked too far away I'll just do the bag check, but will also ask my two friends running with me what they think.

I know the ticket discount prices through rundisney were on here somewhere, but now I can't find them. Does anyone have them?

Yes, it works just like any other ticket media. They will be able to leave the park and re-enter during the party hours. If memory serves me correctly, they will be able to get in a few hours earlier than the party officially starts, just as one can get into MNSSHP & MVMCP a few hours early.

I have booked a club level room for this trip and am seriously thinking about letting it go for just a standard room. For those that have stayed club on running trips, I would appreciate your input.

I am arriving Thursday and leaving Monday. It is only my DH and me. What I like about club is the breakfast, the evening snacks, the free wine and beer, and the "poof" factor I experience. That "poof" factor being any little thing that I might have to deal with (more towels, room phone doesn't work, want to move fastpasses, trying to rearrange a dinner reservation, etc.) is magically fixed. When I deal with these things myself, sometimes I can fix them, sometimes I can't, and it takes longer.

Why am I second guessing club? It's just my DH and me, so I am not having to feed two DSs also. So cost "savings" isn't there. Also, I won't be indulging in more than a glass of wine a day pre race, so that savings isn't as dominant. What really gives me pause is that club level gives way too much food. I am afraid I would eat it pre race, and then be miserable. I won't risk not scheduling ADRs because I want the meal to fuel, and you cannot count on the club level offering to provide sufficient fuel. I have stayed club level three times, and I have overeaten every time.

So, for those that stayed club during a race, can you avoid the temptations of the lounge pre race? Also, did you think it was something you would do again, or is standard preferable?

TIA.

We stayed club level for the Princess Half this year. While we really enjoyed it and hope to do it again, we decided against it for the Wine and Dine weekend. At Princess it was a girls weekend, my best friend, both our moms and our daughters (4 girls under 4). We did it for the convince of snacks at the room while kids were napping/breakfast as we were getting ready. We did breakfast every day but between the expo, race, and enjoying the parks it seems like we always "just missed" the food and drinks. And since it's a night race we'll need to eat at certain times and will want to have a good meal, not just snacks/apps before the race. And since we are down there for the race, we won't really be taking advantage of the adult beverages before the race. We also aren't taking the kids either so the value isn't really there.

To be honest we were really considering splurging since its one of our few (first?) adult only weekends (actually I was going to surprise DH) but when I figured out cost for the club level verses standard room and buying food and drinks in the parks (and getting exactly what we wanted verses what's served) we are better off in a standard room and splurging on meals out.

We are also mainly doing the races this weekend so we don't really have ADR's or fastpasses we'll need to have changed.

That's probably more info then you were looking for but that's our game plan!

Dining buddy just came through for us! Got our dinner res at BOG on Friday night, so we can complete our have a drink in every park in one day. Might be a bit much to do day before the race bit I think we can manage.

At least it's a night race on Saturday so you'll have some recovery time! I couldn't get up for my run this morning after a wee bit too much wine last night so I think I'll steer clear of alcohol pre-race! ;)

That's what I'm thinking, plus 4 drinks throughout a 12 hour day really isn't much.
