We live in Windsor and usually fly to Orlando out of Detroit. Anyone else looking to fly from Detroit to Orlando for March break 2008?

We are planning on going from March 8 to March 15/08. We did the Disney Cruise this March but I am missing the parks now.

Maybe a cheap trip in July might be in order?

Jo-Anne

We always fly out of Detroit and usually on Spirit Air. We usually go down in May, July, October, December and February. Our last Feb trip the seats were 49.00 and next month I got them for $39.50. Hence, I can go to Orlando for a week for less money than a weekend in Toronto.

I've missed out on a few $9.00 seats but will definately snag some soon.

I don't get enough time off work to go that often. But I sure wish I could.

We are travelling at March break so no $39 flights that time of year.

I have booked group rates with NWA in the past and it has worked out really well for me. March break - Sat to Sat for $350 Canadian.

I was thinking that I will watch and maybe catch a really cheap fair and take the kids for a bit in the summer if the cottage thing doesn't work out. :confused3

Are you DVC members? I have wondered how hard it is to get a room at the last minute if you book the flight first.

I fly out of Detroit, too! My latest "score" was the 16 cent flights . . . family of four to Orlando return for 79.00 total.

I must admit, we weren't planning a trip this year until I happened upon this amazing deal. I only wish my job was more flexible so I could take off whenever I felt like it, but for now I will snag the deals when I can.:goodvibes

Yes, we are DVC members. The only last minute trip I have taken was last July. Booked about two weeks out and did get a room. You wouldn't get a room, last minute, during peak periods though.

I am Sooo jealous. But, I will get one of those flights one of these days. Hard not to go when it's that cheap.

OK, so what's your secret? How did you come across 16 cent flights? Trying to talk DH into a short trip in Sept to take advantage of free dining. If I could find a deal like that on flights it might make the scenario more appealing to him. :thanks:

Hi there fellow windsorite!! Last may me,dm and dd flew to orlando from detroit on spirit airlines also. I always fly out of detriot whenever i go anywhere. I really liked spirit airlines. when we were checking in to get our seating arrangements they could only get us together in busniess class. Well, we paid the extra $50 for each of us on my DM credit card, said thank you and went on our merry way. We are almost at the security check when my DM feels someone tap her shoulder. Here it is the lady that assingned our seats to us. My dm had dropped her credit card. The wonderful spirit airlines employee chased my mom down to give the card back to her. That just made my dm and our trip perfect. This year me dh and dd are driving down to disney with our new popup. I cannot wait.  :cloud9: :cool1:

...from Windsor!

Well, it was worth the wait, but we FINALLY booked our trip this morning for our fall trip (yeah FREE DINING!)
We travelled last year to WDW on AirTran from Detroit and really enjoyed it. My wife scored a great deal with them on seats (around $27 each way). I cannot weigh the value of not only the amount of time and money we saved flying to Orlando, but the ease of travelling. Eat breakfast at home in the morning and enjoy Ohana's for supper. There is no better way!

Enjoy!

Hey Windsorites,

Good to see others here and that there are other families in our area who love Disney World as much as we do.

We are lucky to have Metro airport so close by as there is usually a good flight deal from Detroit to Orlando.

Our last few trips have been on Spirit for around $79 each way. While not as good of a deal as others on here it still be the best way for us to go. Spirit is fine for a short trip, not much leg roombut I am not going to complain for the price.

The terminal in Orlando is beautiful, arriving back in Detroit the terminal needs an update as it is not easy getting your baggage at Detroit's old cramped terminal.

Gary, have you flown on their new Air Bus fleet lately? The old MD-80's used to be very cramped but the new ABs with leather seats are quite roomy.

Of course, I'm not a tall person so maybe that's why it feels comfortable for me.

Yes we were on an Air Bus this past March. I am not that tall at all, 5'11" but this was the first plane I have been on that my knees where right up against the seat in front of me.

They have nice leather seats but they are just so darn close it is a sardine can. Anyone taller or even plus sized people must find the seats very uncomfortable.

Because it was only a 2 1/2 hour flight and the price was good I just accept this. It is a lot faster than driving down the I 75.

My brother flew from Buffalo on Jet Blue. He is 6'1" and told me that he had a lot of leg room. He also had 32 channels of direct TV to keep him and his family entertained on the way. His flights were also about $10 cheaper each way than what I paid. Only draw back with Jet Blue was that there was no direct flight from Buffalo to Orlando.

I am from Windsor/Essex also...
I am flying out of Metro this June...taking Spirit to Orlando for $69 each way...not as good of a deal as some of you have gotten....but much cheaper than some of the other airlines out there....

We are travelling for March break and there are no great prices for that time of year. We are going to fly out on the Saturday and return the following Saturday.

What sort of prices have some of you paid out of Detroit before for this time of year.

Did you have a look at Monday to Monday flights. I often found Spirit's week day flights cheaper than weekends.

Gary

Jo-Anne since you're going at a relatively busy travel time and Spirit may not have any great deals you may want this alternative for low cost travel. Zip down to Toledo's airport and use one of the discount airlines that fly out of there. At the moment Allegiant Air flies direct from Toledo to Sanford which is about 20 miles north of Orlando International. If you rent a car, there's easy access to WDW and you're dealing with small less congested airports. We've done this twice and loved it.

That's a great idea Bob, I have never tried that but I will keep this suggestion in mind. Toledo is still close enough.

I would love to travel the Monday to Monday or even the Tuesdays but I only get so many holidays and I would have to take 6 days to be gone the week instead of five.

Plus the kids are getting older and it is tough if they miss too many days of school. We have friends that come as well and the wife works for the school board so no extra days for her.

Thanks for the idea though.

Yes, unfortunately flexable travel dates is not easy for everyone. I too wish we could be a bit more flexible on our travel dates too and work around it as best I can.

Gary, I checked out your families web site. Nice pictures. I love the idea of the princess boutique but don't know if I will ever spend the money to do all that.

Did you think it was worth the cost?

I have found a decent group rate for NWA for next March break. I have 8 seats that are up for grabs if anyone is interested.

It would leave Detroit at 6:40 am on Saturday March 8/08 and return at 5:20 on Saturday March 15/08.

The rate they gave me is $339.13 Canadian return. Group sales is interesting because you place a deposit on your seat ($55 Canadian) and then you don't have to pay the fare until early December. You get the deposit refunded after you return home from the trip. Plus if a member of your party cannot go, you can change the name on your ticket once without penalty up until the day before you leave. Nice eh?

I think it is a good rate for that time of year.

Let me know if anyone is interested in joining my group. :grouphug:
