Windsor to Orlando

Hi Jo-Anne,

So when the depoit is returned the fare is actually only $284.13 CDN?
Is that all taxes and security fees included?

If so, then that is a pretty good deal for March. We flew Spirit this past March and I think it was about $99 US each way plus taxes but that was weekday rates as weekend rates were higher.

As for the photo at Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique, I think that it was about $40 and was a special treat for neice. Was it worth it? My brother paid for it (for his daughter) so I say it was worth it. :)

Hey Gary

No the deposit it held and returned to you. The fare I quoted is the full fare for the ticket with all the taxes and fees included.

Once you travel you get the deposit money back....weird but the rest of the benefits outway that one nuisance factor. Plus it seems I am planning groups like this more often so one refund is coming about the same time another is almost due.

Plus with the Saturday departures, I do think it is a good deal, but am curious to see what others think. I paid a bit more for March 2007.

Hi WDWBOB1

Well I have thought about the Toledo idea before but have you seen the traffic shortly after school gets out in Windsor? My DH dropped us girls at the airport and when he came back at 6pm the traffic was backed up past the ECR on ramps waiting to get on the bridge.

I don't want to deal with the traffic like that all the way to Toledo, but maybe for a summer trip it would be okay.

Do they have direct to Orlando out of Toledo?

Hi Jo-anne, sorry for taking so long to reply but i just read your post. I believe the closest the Toledo flights get to WDW is the Sanford airport. I know what you mean about the traffic. We've gotten around this by leaving the night before the flight when we figured traffic had cleared somewhat and stayed at one of the Toledo airport hotels. The one we stay at is literally next to a Target. This worked out especially good since at the time we had early morning departures. I think departures are later in the day now so you may be able to drive down early Saturday when traffic is less congested.
Hope this helps.

Thanks WDWBOB1 for the info. It never hurts to have different points of view.

Hi there!
DH and I flew out of Detroit last year on Spirit as well. I had never heard of those low fares. Do they usually come out a few weeks before the date? Are there usually any in the summer? I am trying to talk DH into going back this year, but his excuse is that it's too expensive. If I could get a low enough fare it may be enough to persuade him!!! Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!
(And thanks for reading my 1st post!)

Spirit usually has some these low fares out all the time...I believe if you go their website now they have one for Orlando up. The only thing about these low rates are you usually have to leave during the week, or on dates that a lot of pple do not travel is the trick to them, and they are specific dates. Like last month I got Orlando $69 each way, but I had to fly on Mon,Tues, or Wednes in June. So I am now going to Disney for my birthday a day early, but I saved on my flight. Got rd trip fro $134. Sorri I am now rambling, and this probably makes no sense. But pt is, check their site often, they usually have some kind of deals up, not always to Orlando though. But if you check I believe they have a deal up for orlando until midnight April 19th, but I believe the travel dates are in May.

Welcome to the DIS StAR DJ!

I agree about the Spirit site. Check it often and sign up for email specials. I do find the flights are between two and six weeks from the time of the notice. I also see that you would have to stay a month to get the really good rate both ways, sometimes.

But check it out.

I live in Windsor and highly recommend Spirit. Four of us went in Sept. for $400 round-trip total. We were on one of the new planes, very nice and roomy.

THE BEST WAY TO GET GOOD DEALS IS TO SIGN UP FOR E-MAIL ALERTS! THEY HAVE A COUPLE SPECIALS A WEEK AND IF YOU WAIT, YOU'RE BOUND TO GET SOMETHING. AND I'VE ALWAYS FLOWN ON SAT./SUN. AND STILL GOTTEN GOOD DEALS.

I like Spirit as well but would hate to pay anything near full price for a ticket because the terminal is SO HORRIBLE.

The last time we fly out of the old terminal, there were bucket spread around the entire luggage claim area because of the air conditioning leaking. There was brown water dripping everywhere. It was just horrible.

I can't image if it is someone's first impression of Detroit!!! What a pit! :sad2:

I would rather pay a bit more but be able to have some comfort at the new terminal. At least I wouldn't have to worry about things falling into my hair while I wait for my bags

yes, the Smith terminal is definitely not pretty. But soon it will be torn down and a brand new one will be up, nice for those like me who love Spirit.
Personally, I'd rather put up with the nasty luggage pick-up than the many problems we went thru flying NWA, especially out of Orlando, where it is not a hub. Although I must say their flight attendants were very nice.

I still prefer Airtran... and now they've been added to the group of airlines that you can check in at your disney resort on your return flight! WooHoo!!!

Okay you guys I am so jealous of the air fairs that you are able to get. Being from Alberta really sucks for air fair. The cheapest I can get right now for next Feb for a family of 4 is $1600.00 :sad1: My parents live in Windsor but that doesn't help me. Although is still cost more to fly to Toronto/London than it would for us to fly to Orlando so the mouse wins out everytime lol. I hoping I can get a better deal this fall on flights. I keep checking. My only options for flights are from WestJet, Air Canada, Delta or United. Not many choices.

Don't feel too bad. I have paid $300 US more than once out of Detroit. I don't like to be left hanging for air line tickets, so I usually just book them when they are a price I am willing to pay....:confused3

I don't have enough nerve to hold out for a cheap flight. Plus sometimes you can only get those rates on late evening flights going to Orlando and then early flights coming home. I find I loose two days that way, so I usually pay a bit more.

Good luck.

Not sure if anyone has done this but we are getting in late from Orlando so we are thinking of staying in a hotel near the airport overnight. Any recommendations on a good park & fly hotel with shuttle?

Thanks

Crown Plaza has nice rooms and I got a room at March break with 7 days parking for $149.99. They will shuttle you to the air port from the hotel.

There are lots of others as well that do the same thing. Some are a lot cheaper, so it depends on what you like in a hotel. We are staying the night before we leave since it is such a short drive home but traffic can be so bad the weekend March break starts.
