Hello! Can anyone tell me how long it takes to drive from Windsor Hills to the Magic Kingdom? We plan to be at MK for rope drop, and I'm not sure what time we need to leave our townhouse that morning. We have a 2 year old, so I don't want to get there waaaay early and have a long wait till rope drop. Then again, I really don't want to be late either! :)

This is our first trip to Orlando - we arrive at Windsor Hills on Friday. These boards have been so helpful in planning our trip! Thank you!

From WH to TTC it should take you about 12 minutes. I'd leave about 45 min before opening to get to rope drop.

I would plan on 10 min to the parking lot and another 10 min from parking to the entrance. I don't know where the rope drop place is, if it's before the monorail or after you take the monorail and get to the entrance to MK.
I would plan on 30 min. Getting in to the MK involves more than the other parks. When you go to Epcot, MGM or AK you just park your car and either walk or get on a shuttle to the gate. At MK you park your car and walk if your close enough or get on a shuttle to the Ticket and Transportation Centre then either take the monorail or ferry boat to the entrance of MK. It all depends on how long waiting for shuttle and monorail etc. It's usually only a few minutes. If you're taking a stroller you'll have to have it folded to get on the shuttle but you can wheel it onto the monorail or boat.
I wouldn't plan on any more than 30 min. You'll probably do it in less than that.

I've never arrived early enough to see it happen but I read in a guide book that it is at the far end of Main St. before you go out into the different sections of the park. Hopefully someday we'll get to see it!

I do it on a regular basis. Trust me...45 minutes.

Rope drop is right after security and the turnstyles, the characters arrive on the train above you.

Thanks for your help, everyone! Wow, 10 to 12 minutes to MK? That is so great! I'm so glad we found Windsor Hills, looks like it's going to be perfect for our stay!

Momof2 - Thanks for the 45 minutes info. Glad to know you've made it to rope drop leaving then. I was worried I'd have to leave a lot earlier!

I would allow 45 minutes, we've waited quite a few times for the boat or monorail to cross the lake...then there's another big wait / line usually to get through security. The drive from WHR to the MK parking lot I'd estimate closer to 15 mins, the remaining 30 mins are the tram, boat, security, etc.
Hopefully you have your park tickets prior to being there too I would hope? You don't want to be in the long ticket lines at park opening if you can avoid it...if this is your first day and you need tickets still add another 10 or so mins...longer at AK (we had an extra person with us one trip and waited in the ticket line at at for over 40 mins, it was a huge bummer and mistake on our part).
