I don't think so. . .I reformatted and reloaded XP a couple of days ago. I tried to download SP2, and when I got back to my computer it had password-protected it! I had to start all over again!
I was thinking the samething XP SP2 has been installed on all our PC's at work for a good while & we have had no problems due to SP2.
XP has actually been pretty good for us. I think the worst OS Microsoft ever released was ME, oh brother what a piece of crap that was. Good thing was I only saw it on user's home PC's, since we never installed it on any work machines....
Every machine in my office runs XP SP2, and my home machine has been running it since it was released. It's fine for me, and 30+ other heavy use people at my office.
I finally got SP2 on my computer a month or so ago. We had tons of trouble with SP2 at first, but all seems fine now. Even put it on my older laptop w/o any troubles.
I have found XP to be very stable. I can remember all the blue screens of death I used to get. Also I had to reboot quite often because I ran out of memory. Now I reboot when I want to not because I have to.
It would be best if you could use a CD, but that does not seem available anymore. When you download (after you do the prelim), save file to desktop, then maybe copy to a CD if you can, run from that.
