Wilma - Will Orlando feel the winds or rain?

I'm here now and the farthest bands of the storm are here now. I don't know if it's the effect of Wilma or not, but we are having a torrential down pour. Our biggest concern is whether or not it will affect our flight out on Monday night at 8:20. We're hoping for the best. Need some pixie dust for the rest of our trip. When I booked this vacation last January, I never thought a hurricane would happen this late in oct!

I was over at Epcot tonight and we had some rain associated with the outflow from Wilma. But it wasn't a true squall line...we'll start getting those tomorrow night.

I just went to the website and there was a pop up that said they do not have any plans to change operating hours. I doubt they would state that they might change the hours because they wouldn't want to turn away business. My guess is that if they thought they might close they wouldn't say anything at all right now.

I live in southcentral Mississippi and was over 2 hours away from the Gulf and we experienced 100 mph winds and lots of damage from Katrina.... :faint: so everyone take things seriously and take the proper precautions to be safe. We will be praying for you and hoping everyone stays safe. Hopefully Wilma will die down enough to be a much weaker storm...

I for one, along with everyone else, I'm sure, will be glad when this hurricane season is over. Enough is enough already!! :confused3

We have a trip planned for land/sea trip in December and can't wait to get away from everything and enjoy ourselves. Hope everyone there now and those who have future trips can do the same. :cheer2: :flower:

I've just keep watching the track--Have an interview at Disney (part time) for Monday morning then a 30 mile drive back to Lakeland afterwords so I'm hoping it's okay, I've driven to and from work in Tropical Storm winds so it's become commonplace after last year. Was at Disney 1st week of October and a Tropical wave was crossing, so occasionally we were bombarded with Rain and wind. We'll see what happens. Hopefully it won't make it back up to Cat 3 and stay a 1 or 2.

The hurricane season goes until Nov 31st! Can you believe that! I thought Sept was the end of it LOL. Last year is when I found out the real dates. Who woulda thunk Oct and hurricanes?

And to all of which I'll add: Wouldn't it be nice if they REALLY could predict these things?? They're already several DAYS off the timing---
Let's see what happens---.

The speghetti models changed DRASTICALLY overnight. I was getting ready to have to start to cover the windows today when I went to bed last night. My friends from Key West were starting to think, "eh, maybe we can stay put". I woke up and took a look a few minutes ago, and it looks like I'll be having hosueguests for sure, and probebly won't need to worry about covering my windows. I'll make the window decision later today, they need to get moving though.

My flight from Houston is scheduled to land at 2:10pm in Orlando on Monday. Should I anticipate spending some "quality time" at the Houston airport????

my guess is YES! no matter where it goes airtraffic into central flroida and south will prob be stopped becasue of winds... They may not close orlando but there will definetly be delays until storm is over.....

I'm a very inexperienced flier...so please forgive my stupid questions. Forecast is showing that the storm...on it's current track, should subside by early evening. Winds will be down to approximately 20mph...which should be fine for landing...right? See, told you, I'm clueless!

right now schools are closed in orlando for monday....we are not anticipating it to be bad at all in orlando BUT....... there will be alot of wind in this storm and i doubt teh airlines will be flying to orlando during the storm hours when it is closest to orlando.. like i said i doubt they will cancel flights but you asked if you should anticipate spending "quality"time in houston and I think that YES you should prob anticipate at least a delay.. especially as they try to reroute all south florida flights/and get people closer to their destinations....

I am such a planner and realize through this process just how anal I am. It's driving me crazy that Mother Nature has wreaked havoc on my plans! Sitting in an airport for hours might just be great for me...it's my first solo trip -- and is definitely a learning experience.

Pixie dust to everyone in Southern & Central Florida -- hoping that Wilma loses speed and gains no more intensity so that there are minimal effects.

Just got word all Disney parks will be closed for tomorrow (24th). Sorry to all those who are visiting. Please stay safe.

I just saw on the resorts board that people at Fort Wilderness are being evacuated.

All 4 WDW themeparks will be closed on Monday, with a possible opening of a couple of them later in the day...weather permitting.

It's easy for me to say since I am not there, but I am glad they are erring on the side of caution and safety.

I wonder where they send their evacuees. Do you think they put them up in other hotels? I hope so.

It depends. In the past they have moved them to rooms, they ahve also put them in one of the convention centers.

Will be interested to see if--after the fact--if there really was a NEED to evacuate FT Wilderness.

This morning (Heavy Rain and some winds and gusts), they just requested that all First Shift WDW CM's report to work before 7am, they hope to possibly open some of the parks this afternoon.

Just talked with my wife in Orlando- her business was going to open at 1pm but just informed not opening today. Worry about people some distance from offices trying to get through wind, rain and any potential tornado type weather. She also said just east of downtown where she lives wind just started to pick up.
