Hi everyone, We are having a willy wonka birthday party for my dgd who will be turning 5 in june. anyone have any ideas that wont brake the bank? she loves, loves loves willy wonka. thanks
My neighbor just did a candyland party for her daughter's birthday and got her ideas off of pinterest. I think she use wrapping paper tubes and balloons to make lollipop decorations. She also had a candy bar where the kids could pick their favorite treats.
You could do this yourself, as well as make giant lollypops. I did this for Xmas decorations once- take a big styrofoam disk, stick in a long wooden dowel for the stick, wrap in colored cellophane for the wrapper. Should be pretty inexpensive and very cute! Please post pics- I LOVE Willy Wonka (the original, of course)!
I'm currently planning my daughter's Candy Land party. I agree with everyone about going to Pinterest for ideas. That is where I have gotten all my ideas. Besides the lollipops everyone has mentioned, you can also wrap cellophane wrapping around paper lanterns for hard candies.
My girls did "Pure Imagination" in a talent show one year. We made a bunch of props for it and it was pretty cool! We made a giant Wonka bar by covering a large rectangular shape (we used lids from those under-bed plastic storage containers) with Dollar store purple shiny wrap and cut letters out of white to spell Wonka. We used gold foil (reverse side of the purple wrap!) for the ends.
We made giant lollipops from styrofoam as suggested above and some smaller sized ones as well.
I made some of the lollipops out of dollar store clear plastic plates. I painted them and glued 2 together for the lollipop. I used plastic tubes for the sticks--I was lucky enough to do this right after Christmas and found a bunch of large plastic candy canes in different colors and just cut off the curved part.
I'm sorry I don't have pictures, but you can see some of the props in this little video. We didn't use all of them in this performance but you can see the candy bar and some of the lollipops. The twin Oompa Loompas (age 6) are holding lollipops behind big sis (8). The Wonka bar can be seen at the very beginning. http://s48.beta.photobucket.com/user/Twinkleberries/media/wonkatalshow09-1.flv.html
The dance studio I work at just did a ballet production of willy wonka.. We decorated the lobby area with candies - some were homemade (paperplates and cardboard circles painted with cellophane and tulle) and some we bought at oriental trading (just to hang on the walls).
You can make the invites as golden tickets.. See about renting a cotton candy machine (local rental places that have bounce houses usually have them). Definitely a candy bar.
You can have the kids make candy necklaces and take them home as party favors. This gives you an activity and covers the favors part. With Easter coming up you should be able to find golden eggs easily enough. Have some sprite that is labled fizzy lifting drink.
I did my sons 5th birthday party based off of Willy Wonka. Feel free to message me and I can send you pictures
My son had Willy Wonka bars that he hand delivered to each of his friends and had a Willy Wonka cake. Both were replicates of the original design. The invitation was the candy bar with a golden ticket, which each child brought to the party, to be entered into a raffle to win the movie . (the newer version though)
At the party, we did games based on each character. 1. The kids sucked chocolate pudding through straws. Winner won a prize. 2. Blue balloons were pinned on the wall and kids popped them. Each balloon had a number inside it and won a piece of candy based on the number. 3. Balloons were pinned on the ceiling and were shot down (forgot how this was done). One had a note in it for the winner. 4. And then rubber ducks were placed in a container of water with numbers on it. And prizes were given based on the number.
