From the beach area (strip) to Busch Gardens is 50-60 minutes depending on traffic.

i would say approx 60mins. maybe a little more, especially with traffic.

Virginia Beach to Newport News takes me about 40 minutes with mild traffic. Then from there it's another 40 minutes to get to Williamsburg, particularly to Busch Gardens.

Keep in mind, though, that I keep within the speed limit (60 to 65 mph) while everyone zooms past me. lol

Provided it's not a Friday or Saturday afternoon, I'd say about 1 to 1 1/4 hours from Williamsburg to Va Beach.

Between Williamsburg and Newport News tends to bottleneck for no apparent reason and then there can be a 5-10 minute delay at the tunnel, but unless there is an accident, it's usually a pretty easy trip during the week. Weekends are a different story.

i suggest mapquesting for drive time...

Mapquest is great, however, nothing beats personal experience. Mapquest doesn't take into account traffic backups in certain places, the best and worst time of the day to go, etc, etc. That's why it can be so helpful to ask here.

This happens a lot, unfortuneately. And Friday/Saturday/Sunday is the worst as is rush hour too.

And DON"T go through the HRBT. Use the MMBT its almost always less congested. Dh and I have sat for ages whenever we used the HRBT. N.ver again.

On mondays and especially fridays, from 3pm on, avoid 64 from the Burg to Newport News. There is almost Always an accident at either Ft. Eustis Boulevard or Lee Hall.
Use Mapquest and put in either 143 Jefferson Avenue or route 60,to get to the Monitor Merrimac Tunnel, these roads are 45 in most places except route 60 in newport news is undergoing a 25 mph in one area due to expansion, but you wouldn't be stuck on the interstate. You could even mapquest to get to James River Bridge and that will also lead you to the beach.

This thread is making me homesick! We lived in Newport News for three years, and it was the happiest time of our lives. We lived right by Lee Hall, too!

I love Va., except it has wierd weather, a few days ago, I was wearing shorts, then after that it was cold and raining and people told me they saw light snow yesterday.
In 98, we had a nice snow storm, a couple years later, I was wearing shorts, I am weird anyway, but other people were wearing them or working out in the yard.

I said that so that the OP would have a 'round about' answer... only a suggestion-- and a good one at that (just as everyone else's have been). He wanted to know how long, and mapquest does give drive times. I knew others would give better personal accounts but mine would suffice until they gave those.

Don't get me wrong--I'm a MapQuesting fool--have the link in my toolbar, but it's really only accurate if there isn't traffic, bottlenecks, etc.

I was there for the storm in 98 - and we had "freak" storms in 99, and 2000, as I recall. I remember thinking that if something happened every year, it wasn't really a freak occurrence anymore!
