Does anyone know if the Taverns in Colonial Williamsburg have a 40 day rule for reservations (can't make reservations sooner than 40 days?)

I've been to Williamsburg before but not for over a year. Does anyone have any suggestions or advice about what to do on our visit? I considered Busch Gardens but decided we'll be going to WDW later in the year anyway so will give BG a miss.

We always go to the Williamsburg Winery. Is there anything else within close driving distance you'd recommend? Or any programs or displays in Colonial Williamsburg you liked or hated?

I don't know about reservations - but I do remember eating at Christiana Campbell's Tavern and really liking it...

We had Easter dinner at the Trellis -- it was delish! :)

Do a search on Williamsburg here on the DIS, there is a ton of info already posted. When we were there our kids were still fairly young so we didn't take advantage of Williamsburg like we could have -- but there are suggestions of midnight ghost walking tours and other info that people here on the DIS have uncovered.

We ate at one of the taverns, but I can't remember what it was called. It was good though!

We did a show the one night and it was called some kind of circus. It ended up being a vaudeville type performance. It was pretty corny, but I enjoyed it (the kids in the audience had a blast). It was run through Colonial Williamsburg, so I am sure their website will have the info on it.

We also did the ghosts of Williamsburg tour. I thought it was ok, but wasn't exactly what I expected. Not enough ghost stories in it, more just walking around at night.

We really enjoyed visiting Carter's Grove, which is the plantation the Williamsburg Foundation owns. We really enjoyed everything there. It is about 10 minutes from the historic village by car.

I worked at CW a long time ago...back then you could make reservations the day you planned to eat there...and depending on the time of year, you probably don't even need that. I can't imagine you would need reservations more than a day before unless you are visiting within the next week (the height of tourist season).

When you visit here, do you go to the Pottery? Or the outlets? Also there are several river plantations along Route 5 (which is a beautiful drive anyway)...you could venture toward Hampton and Newport News which have other museums and attractions (Hampton's Air and Space Center is pretty cool).

If you want any other details, PM me and I can maybe mail some brochures to you...

edited to add: Oh yeah! I forgot about President's Park!

I believe that Carter's Grove is now closed. The pictures I saw of it are fantastic, so it is a shame. We went on the ghost tour one time, and it was OK, kind of fun walking around in the dark with lanterns. Although it was raining.

We ate at Shield's Tavern last year, and it was the highlight of our visit- very entertaining, but I see that it has changed to snacks now.
