Will you get a Flu Shot?

I am a back office nurse and never get one. DH has asthma and he never gets one, BUT, this year we will all be getting one because we are cruising to the Caribbean right after our week at WDW!!! :Pinkbounc I told DH and DD14, no flu shot, no cruise!! :rotfl2: Hopefully they won't be low on vaccine this year. Debby

I've never had one, and have never had the flu. Once I pass the big 6-0 I'll reconsider.

I heard they're expecting a shortage because so many evacuees from Katrina who are in shelters will be given them when they're not normally receipants.

I will not get one. I've only had it once and I got so sick; worse than the flu. Add to that a huge fear of needles and you have someone who would rather get the flu. I also come from the school that unless you have a weakened immune system germs aren't bad, and if you get sick it just makes you stronger. I get sick sick once every 3-5 years, miserable for a few days and healthy for another 3-5 years.

Sincerely,
a non-antibacterial soap user
who doesn't get the flu shot
or wash her hands 80 times a day or use purell
walks around barefoot outside and in
and is rarely sick.

DH and I are getting ours this week and the kids will be getting their at the end of September.

My daughters Dr called ME yesterday to say she had a flu shot set aside for my daughter and to make an appointment. My daughter had a terrible last year due to strep and once she gets a cold she goes on a nebulizer for a darn week so they like to try to keep her from getting things that can be prevented. I will also get one this year if I can, last year I didn't due to the shortage but her Dr would like me to get one so I don't bring the flu home to the house! When the chicken pox vaccine came out I was one of the first on line for that...my godson had cancer and if I ever brought the chicken pox home to him he could have died.

Anyone high risk should definitely get one. Was just reading in one of the medical journals that came in at work this week that the vaccine is well in the works and isn't expected to run short. Let's hope!!

I've never had one since I'm not high-risk and I work from home (that's really low-risk, if ya ask me!), but since I'll probably be working out of the home soon, I think I'll get one. Can't hurt!

The last flu shot I got was when I was much younger -- Swine Flu, I think it was. I threw up all over the fence outside the high school where I got the shot. No more for me, thanks.

I get them for free at work, and the nurse's office is right next to my department. Pretty much no excuse not to get one, since I am also considered high priority due to my meds.

No. I have never gotten the shot, and as far as I know, I have never gotten the flu.

Trust me, if you had ever had the real influenza, you would KNOW you had the flu. It is the most horrible thing I have ever had! You ache so badly your hair hurts. It took me almost 15 minutes to walk to the bathroom in the next room because I was so weak. NO THANKS EVER AGAIN. Our kids have asthma so we get the flu shots.

I definitely will, assuming no shortages. I have for the past half dozen or so years, including last after the shortage ended. Have not had a flu-like illness in all those years, usually did in years previous.

Nope! I am at risk but I can't have the shot so I have to take my chances. Hopefully no one will come to work with it this year.

Hopefully I will this year. I teach, and the school district offered them for free two years ago, but not last year due to the shortage. Our district has closed for 1-2 weeks the past two years because of low attendance due to illness. Who'dofthunkit? So, hopefully less of a shortage this year and I'll get mine!

My husband is immuno-compromised. The whole family is supposed to get the shot every year. Had just a bit of trouble last year, and just managed to get some sympathetic people. They have categories for at-risk people, and people who are caretakers of young infants, but none for those who live with/are caretakers of immuno-compromised people to help protect them, when the supplies are rationed.

I probably should since I had neutropenia a few years ago. But, I started taking a vitamin and, even though I get the flu at least once a year, I've never had to be hospitalized. I take my chances. I'm young and relatively healthy. The flu knocks me down, but I can handle it.

I say that now....but, when the 102 degree temperature and the body aches kick in, I may be singing a different tune. :) I usually end up with a script for Compazine (I get horrible nausea with my flu). I guzzle Alka-Seltzer like it's going out of style and take a week off of work. I think I'm so used to it because it ALWAYS happens that it doesn't even phase me anymore.

Every year that I get the flu shot, I get so sick 2 days later. The years that I skip the shot, I am fine.
So, this year, I am NOT getting a flu shot. :)

Same here.

I haven't had the real flu since 2001. By "real flu" I mean Influenza, not a cold or stomach virus that many people refer to as "the flu."

I work in a hospital too, but I take mine every year

We own a pharmacy, and neither DH or I have ever had a flu shot. We don't intend to get them, for us or the kids (teens).
