I will be getting mine on Oct. 5th. I get one every year! I have no problem getting mine at all. My Dr. has a list of those who should get the shot, your name must be on the list in order to get one!

I am in the high risk cat. due to my transplant.

i have not yet heard of any shortage in the meds this year! :cool1:

Last year was the first year in the last 10 that I did NOT get a flu shot because of the shortages. I just couldn't see taking one away from someone who might need it more. If there are no shortages, I will be there with my DH and DS(who needs it because of his asthma).

Every year they tell me to due to my immune system and meds I'm on and every year I politely decline ;) I haven't caught it yet - I better go knock on wood!

I am the opposite of you, Parkhopper! Last year was the 1st year in over 10 years that I did get a flu shot. I was preg. so my dr. told me to get one. I probably won't get one this year if there is a shortage since dd will be over 6 months during flu season (and I was treated rudely by some of the elderly that thought I shouldn't get a shot just b/c I was preg. ) I think last year they considered those w/infants under 6 months to be in the high-risk group.

I'm definitely getting one. Last year was the first time in years that I couldn't get one, and I ended up getting the flu. I had to take Tamiflu (which worked well!), and so did my DH since we obviously live in the same household.

I have never had a flu shot, my DH usually gets one every year (everyone in his company gets them free, spouses included). The funny thing is he usually gets sick and I never do :)

Yes - as long as there are not any shortages. We are going to WDW and on the cruise during flu season so every bit of extra protection we can get in advance is worth it. :)

I will definitely get one. I am in the "high risk" group as a health care worker (I work in the ER). I skipped it four years ago, and was deathly ill over Christmas that year. Never again!

No, but I am not in a high-risk category for the flu.

If I were, I'd get one.

I usually don't, but this year, with an infant, I've been told it would be a good idea if I got one. And since we have an infant, and since my DW (cancer) and DS (asthma) are both on high-risk lists, supposedly I'm eligible for a shot as well.

Our pediatrician told us that they are predicting another shortage this year.

No. I have never gotten the shot, and as far as I know, I have never gotten the flu.

I have never gotten the flu shot, but I am not in the high risk catogery.

My DS has get one every year. He has asthma and he has trouble fighting off colds/infections so he does get one every season.

i've never gotten one. i've only had the flu once as an adult and that was in college. i would get one if i was in a high risk group, but since i'm healthy, i figure i don't really need it.

I have never received the shot - not in high risk category. This year I may because I am pregnant and will be in my 2nd and 3rd trimester during flu season.

(Just read that the national Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommend that women who will be in their 2nd and 3rd trimester of pregnancy during the flu season get the flu shot.)

I don't want to take any chances, to be honest.

No, I never get one. I've only gotten the flu once. It wasn't my favorite thing, but I lived. I think that it's generally best if we can maintain our health with diet and exercise rather than with medications.

DD's pediatrician office called this morning to cancel DD#1's flu shot (she's 27months). The message said they ran out already and to call back in October to reschedule.
I think I'll try to get one b/c I got so sick last year that DH had to stay home to take care of DD. This year, DH has to have surgery and will use up all his sick time, so no staying home with me if needed.

Actually Suzi, since your DS has asthma you and DH should always get the shot. I have asthma and my dr mandates that DH get the shot so that he does not bring the Flu into our home. Yes we both got it last year and will get it this year. I heard about the shortage and called my dr. The day I call eda local pharmacy had a flu clinic. DH and I met there after work and got it. The next day the offical announcement went out. I saw my dr a few weeks later and he was shocked I got one. He said that they got 0 doses in, so nobody in the practice got one. He even asked me how I got mine. BTW he was pleased that we both did.

As a 24 year old, Type 1 Diabetic, I'm considered "high risk" and should get flu shots. I usually get them, except for last year. Since there was a shortage I opted out, hopefully someone else who needed it more took it. I'd consider myself a pretty healthy diabetic... thankfully I didn't get the flu last year. ;) I will probably get the shot this year. I totally agree with Kermit though, diet and exercise are the best preventatives. But for us "high riskers"... a flu shot isn't a bad idea either. :)
