Will You Chill Out if I Sprinkle You With Pixie Dust? The End p136 *New TR Link* p138

I Ain't Going to No D@^^% Gatlinburg!

It was right about here that we ran into a big family group with matching T shirts. One member of the family was complaining about the heat and the crowds.

The matriarch of this southern family simply stated, "Next year I am going to take you all to the mountains so we can get some fresh air and exercise. Maybe Colorado. We can hike and fish".

One of the grandkids said, "I don't want to go to the mountains".

To which one of the dads replied, "Great idea mom. How about taking everyone to Gatlinburg?"

The southern matriarch, clearly exasperated that her son missed her intention, snapped back, " I ain't going to no d@^^$ Gatlinburg!!!"

Well, it probably was one of those moments where you really needed to be there, but Denny and I had to walk away as fast as we could because we couldn't stop laughing. :rotfl2: We just found the whole conversation so comical.

Here's a picture of some of the Gatlinburg clan (note the pink T-shirts) taken later that evening.

WHEW! I don't have anything pink so it wasn't us!!! :sad2:

Thanks for the pic of our State flower and State tree. We like it so much we gave it two honors!

Great pics and awesome filter effects. To paraphrase Oliver Twist, "more please".

So glad you came through the storm safe and sound!

Your pictures are beautiful! You have such a great eye :thumbsup2

The pics of the Yacht and Beach Club make it miss it so! I can't wait to stay there again next year!

Oh Gosh I would have been cracking at the Gaitlinburg remark.:rotfl2:

Great shots of the World. Some truly amazing shots. You really captured the beauty of the area.

I need to go back and see the films again. It has been a while.

The mug fill situation and BW is unique....

Have a Friend on LI - trees down but otherwise OK.

yay you are back !!! LOL about Gatlinburg. We have to go there next summer for DH's family reunion :faint: I hate it. They stay in a place that isn't very nice and DH always leaves me with the kids while he goes off to do things with his family. I am not really even sure why I even need to be there to be honest. :confused3 And to add insult to injury, I had to reschedule our 2013 Disney Cruise to work around this trip. :furious: Gatlinburg is OK, I guess. I would just rather spend that time at Disney .......

Glad to hear Sandy spared you in Delaware!!!

Beautiful shots from around World Showcase, Mary Ellen! That picture of Mary Poppins is precious!

I cracked up over the Gatlinburg remark -- I think I may have even said those exact words before -- it tends to be a popular vacation spot for people around here, but I have no desire to visit -- I am not into crowds, the mountains, or really anything that is offered there. :rotfl:

Glad Sandy didn't do any major damage and that you were in a place that had a comfortable chair!:goodvibes

Sometimes, those big family groups can say the funniest things. I have no doubt someone's walked by my group of aunts and cousins when I was a kid and began laughing out loud. Sometimes, overhearing other people's conversations can be highly amusing while you're walking around a park. :rotfl:

That conference center at the Boardwalk looks really nice. I love the theming....

So, as you guessed, we all survived Sandy. I decided just to stay at work for the last 48 hours, which would be torture except that I have a very private office with a bathroom and shower (it used to be a family waiting room). I also can walk to the surgeon's office whenever I want and there is a TV and frig there. I also have this wonderful leather recliner in my office that was donated by a former patient. It was obviously an expensive chair and this patient bought it during their recovery from heart surgery. Then this patient had their family room remodeled and the chair "didn't match". So said chair was donated. I freaking love this chair and I can assure you that I can barely afford such a chair (unless I want to give up a Disney trip), let alone donate it.

I guess if you have to sleep in the office, you could do much worse! Glad you guys made it through unscathed.

To which one of the dads replied, "Great idea mom. How about taking everyone to Gatlinburg?"

The southern matriarch, clearly exasperated that her son missed her intention, snapped back, " I ain't going to no d@^^$ Gatlinburg!!!"

:lmao::rotfl2: I definitely see the humor in this.

Also, I continue to be amazed at people who travel to the most popular destination in the world in Florida and are surprised that it's hot and crowded. :confused3

So for the next 36 hours we would suddenly find ourselves having this conversation.....

Denny: "Hey, let's go to Gatlinburg".

Me: "I ain't going to no d@^^$ Gatlinburg".

Denny: "NO, I ain't going to no d@^^$ Gatlinburg"

Me: "NO, I really ain't going to no d@^^$ Gatlinburg"

Denny: "NO,..........."

You get the idea.

Don't you love it when you get a good private joke going? :thumbsup2

Once in Canada, I decided to take some pictures of the falls

IMG_4759.jpg

I like this one. :thumbsup2

It looks like we are getting some dark clouds in this picture.

IMG_4786.jpg

I dunno, they look kinda purple to me. :rotfl2:

Nice pictures!

Great updates, MaryEllen.

I've been to Gatlinburg, so that who story just cracked me up. :lmao::lmao::lmao:

I wonder if people looked at you oddly as you and Denny enjoyed your private joke during the trip? ;)

I love the pictures, as always, and enjoyed the ones where you played with the shutter speed and the filters as well.

Happy Halloween

I loved the "Gatlinburg story". That's so something that we would have kept talking about as well. Oh and your comment on it being crowded, I agree 100%. We went last Thanksgiving it and it wall to wall people and traffic. :faint:

I'm loving all of the different pictures that you took! So very cool!

Stopped for a quick bit in between running some errands, but I wanted to wish you a

Happy Halloween !!!

And a very Happy Boo-thday to Denny!

That is so funny! I can absolutely see that becoming a line for your trip.

Not that I've ever been to Gaitlinburg...or have any desire to go there.

:rotfl:

Poor Grandma. Ungrateful wretches, the lot of them!

[Cynthia - this picture is for you since you commented about how you think the Mary Poppins characters always have that special something that makes them kind and compassionate. I don't know if its the filter I used, but I think this picture captures that essence.

IMG_4784.jpg

aww, thanks! She really does. I just adore the way she gets down with the kids, there is something magical about it.

This picture makes me really homesick for the Boardwalk, since our room had the best view of the Swan and Dolphin. So cool

IMG_4802.jpg

me too! And I have to say...our stay there has become a MAJOR factor in our upcoming plans. :thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

Which, shockingly, are actually almost all the way agreed upon all around! Don't want to jinx it with the ticker yet though.

I still haven't seen the movie in Canada. Somehow I don't see it happening unless Jeff and I stroll the WS without kids and I con him into it (which actually wouldn't be hard).

Someday.

So glad you escaped unscathed, it seems everyone has reported in ok other than power still out for some but UGH what a mess.

Hung my soccer charm in the car, as of last night we are officially moving on to state. Saturdays game will determine in what seed but we are moving on! Fingers crossed, the last 2 games have been SLOPPY!

I was so worried about you! Monday at work I was reading on twitter all about the crazy damage caused by Sandy and I was hoping you were safe, glad to hear all is well!

I always enjoy the film in Canada. I walk out wanting to plan a trip to Canada. Happens every time!

Huh! Well then a job well done on the Canadian tourism people's part! Come visit me, MEK! I'll show you around the far East :thumbsup2 :goodvibes I'm glad you enjoyed the video.
Love all the pictures around the resort, so gorgeous!

Happy Hallowe'en, Mary Ellen!

Great pictures as usual, MEK. Glad you captured the bird poop picture, that's some serious trip reporting.

I've never been to $*&# Gatlinburg. And now I'm not sure that I'll ever want to. :rotfl:

I went to school about an hour from Gatlinburg so I REALLY don't want to go to no d%&* Gatlinburg! :lmao:

That Brave sand sculpture is AMAZING. Wow. Too bad they took that down so soon.

I've really been wanting to stay at the Boardwalk lately so I'm loving these pictures! :goodvibes

That Gatlinburg story was a riot! I find myself laughing a lot at things I overhear at the World. The worst thing is no one else hears the same things. I'm glad you and Denny both were a party to the craziness! Ungrateful wretches indeed! :lmao:

I had the same thought as Glen about the excrement. Well done Mary Ellen :rotfl:

In all seriousness, gorgeous pictures. You captured some beautiful scenes. I'm loving the look inside the BW. I have never been inside before. It's definitely on the list for December.

First off, glad that things ar ok with you & your office sounds like a good place to ride out the storm!

With the filters your photos have a sort of overexposed Kodachrome look ot them. If you look at some old slide you'll see what I mean.:rolleyes1

Mary Ellen.... so happy for you that you made it safely through the storm......That chair does sound rather awesome...:thumbsup2

Gorgeous World Showcase Photos...:goodvibes

Hmmm... Just had to look up Gatlinburg...Wow... lots of stuff there... trying to figure out a Northeaster equivalent...

Oh wow... you do hear a wide variety of things at Disney don't you?

The killer is that the language came out of the matriarch... bet she's one tough cookie...;)

Sounds like y'all were having a nice, relaxed day! The story about the southern family is funny! :rotfl: Y'all really had a pretty view from the room.

I was laughing at your Gatlinburg story and I don't even know anything about Gatlinburg (except that its in TN, right? :confused3). Families can be so funny when you get everyone together!

You took some really amazing shots of WS and the Boardwalk, I especially like the ones of the waterfall in Canada. I really wanted to get back there on this last trip, because I thought that DS would think it was cool, but it just never happened. I'll just have to show him your pictures instead!

Continued From Previous Post.......

So funny, because I know I took this exact same picture last week

IMG_4809.jpg

I popped in the Boardwalk Bakery because I was trying to figure out where to fill my mug

IMG_4810.jpg

We passed the Clown pool on our way back to the room

When we got back to the room I wanted to take some daylight pictures of our room location

So, as you can see, really not an unpleasant view at all. Probably a great location if you had a little kid who you wanted to run around outside for a bit. I just would have liked the location better had I been up 3 or 4 floors!

Before we took our pool break I had to make one more stop. My dear friend K had actually given me a bass guitar during our visit. But I was challenged with finding a way to send it home.

So I went to the business center in the conference center to see if they could ship it home

Here are some pictures from the conference center

The business center with Fed Ex was actually up the hall on the right and they ARE opened on Sundays until 2pm

On my way back through the lobby I took this picture of the horse chandelier. I can never get a good picture of it with my regular camera. I love this. It so reminds me of my trips to the Steel Pier in Atlantic City with my cool grandmother.

Here's some more information about the Steel Pier The diving horses were stopped because of animal cruelty

Here's another article

I look back with great fondness on my chance to see the diving horse. I was probably about 10 years old. It's a great memory.

Up Next. Bistro de Paris and more Illuminations

There is a (very, very) small amusement park in my area that still has a diving horse show, I have never seen it live however. In videos, it honestly looks like the horse is jumping in of his own accord :)
