Will we be disappointed???

We have been fortunate enough to get a 40% discount on our resort. We decided on the Poly, 11 beautiful days at the resort of my dreams! I have been obsessed with the idea since making our reservations. Well, due to reasons I won't get into (okay, trying to save a buck! There I said it ;)) we are thinking about skipping the Poly for CBR. We'll save about $1900 (Canadian dollars) which is pretty substantial. However since coming up with this idea, I'm finding myself feeling a little uneasy. Actually a lot uneasy! Just how badly will I be disappointed with the idea of mine? My biggest concern is with the transportation and loss of midday breaks because of the length of time it takes to rides the buses from the CBR. My husband has knee troubles and I'm afraid the extra on-our-feet time will not be a good idea, causing him pain and making him cranky (rightly so). (Not as easy to head back to his resort when it's not the monorail....oh, did I mention that most of our days will be at MK??) My teen kids are also not liking this at all since they will not have the jump-up-and-go to MK without mom and dad, in the evenings I've planned to spend around the resort. I have only been to Disney once with the kids. And we stayed at the GF for 10 days. Another comparison! Ugh! What to do??? Please help me out...can you give me some of the pros and cons of this "probable" decision...before I have to pick up my phone. Many thanks! :confused3

The Poly is a wonderful resort and a personal favourite of ours. It is definitely one of the nicest and most convenient places to stay in WDW. I highly recommend staying there. That said, all of the resorts in WDW have their own personality and have their own advantages. It is easy to have a wonderful vacation when staying in any of them. I usually book the deluxe before the moderates and the moderates ahead of values, but over the years we have stayed at them all - From All Star Music in a standard room in Country fair, to the Gf in RPC with a MK view. Every stay was a magical delight and I would stay at any of the resorts again quite happily. If you want to save the $1900 and stay at CBR, you will be staying in a moderate resort but it can still be a fantastic vacation.

If you are uneasy about staying in CBR, though, and yet want to save $$$, how about switching to a courtyard view room at the WL? Less expensive than the Poly and perhaps not right on the monorail, but you will still save $$. Also, the WL is very compact with everything under one roof so walking about will be easier for DH than even at the Poly. Finally, with the quick 5 min bus ride or 15 min boat ride, the teenage kiddos should still be able to easily jump up and go to the MK without Mum and Dad. The WL has smaller rooms than the Poly, but larger than CBR and you will still get a balcony.
Bottom line:
WL is a great deluxe resort that saves $$ without sacrificing quality or deluxe amenities. It is an amazingly beautiful resort that is very convenient to the MK!

OTH, if you decide to move to CBR, it is a lovely resort. I would take a few of the $$ saved and book a preferred room. that way you will lessen the impact of the resort size and save DH knees! The tropical island atmosphere is very relaxing and walking around the resort is lovely. The rooms are quite a bit smaller than those at the GF and the Poly, though, and you will have exterior doors so no balconies. Transportation will take longer to get to the MK, but it is still all quite doable.

We have stayed at all three of these resorts and enjoyed our stay at all of them. Perhaps you should read up online about them and look at some pics to have realistic expectations. Have a great vacation wherever you choose to stay!!

Good luck deciding!

If your Poly deal is the *** deal for Aug there has been some FB discussions that if that deal is offered next year at Poly that the price will probably increase substantially after construction is complete (if it's even offered in subsequent years). So it might be a good chance to experience the Poly at that low price...

Stick with the Poly.
I know I always second guess myself all the time. In fact, for our Poly trip this holiday season, I was actually thinking of switching our resort, until my wife talked me out of it. Now, I think I would be regretting it if I did switch and would probably be trying to re-book the Poly.

If you want to stay at CBR, well, now you have a reason to go next year!

WDW trips are absolutely the only vacations where I second guess everything. I have changed from AKL to GF to AKL, changed room type. Gone from CL to standard back to CL. I ended up going back to my original reservation and put the $4k savings back into the trip because hubby insisted the savings weren't worth the uncertainty. I booked the best vacation (in our budget) that I could and I am sticking with it. :)

You could also do a split stay between two resorts. You would only save about $950 Canadian, but that would be the best of both worlds... a savings, without totally giving up the Poly!

You're going to be "stuck" in one resort for 11 days.... wouldn't you rather it be poly? Honestly, saving money is important, but this sounds like you really will regret it, and then the money you do save on the cheaper hotel will not make it worth it. If you can swing it, go for it.

I like this idea and we do this from time to time. The other thing to consider is if you change to CBR will you be beating yourself up as you ride the monorail past the Poly or when you are waiting for a bus.

We did a split stay last week - 3 nights at CBR and 4 at Yacht Club. We were not at all impressed with CBR and will probably never stay there again - bus service was horrible. We ended up driving to MK twice and to Epcot and AK once, which we rarely do. If you are going to be spending most of your time at MK, stick with the Poly.

Now this interests me...

I pretty much know why the Poly is being discounted to the 40% level..... it sort of looks like Dresden. What amazes me is that Disney has finally figured out all this - really, they beat that poor place up beyond recognition!

OK - some data. Sandy and I do not go to the poly, we love the Wilderness Lodge. But every trip. on ME, we go past the Poly.... a LOT fewer people are getting off. And the poor buss driver seems to be working HARD to get in/out of the place.

This hotel is your choice.... please, see other opinions. My impression is that the Poly is still in a serious state of re-work. But that's just MY impression.... does not make it gold :).

I would stick with the Poly. The new pool looks awesome, and the new foyer is done. I've stayed at both, and I think you would really regret changing to CBR. It is an ok resort, but it certainly is not the Poly!

It sounds like you have already made up your mind. Stay at Poly. Your husband will be happier and 11 days is a long time to be with a cranky hubby :headache:

I've never been to Disney to add personal input, but it sounds like your heart was set on the Poly so I'd stick there. I had a similar debate myself on staying in a royal room vs standard room at POR. Granted the difference between my options was only $200, I decided to go with the Royal Room because I think I would be disappointed if I didn't!

I feel the exact way. We stayed t the Poly last year and loved it even with the construction. But we know that we were not going to be able to afford it now as some things have come up so I made the decision a few days ago to let our Poly stay go and move at first to Animal Kingdom lodge but we would be spending a lot of our time at MK this time so I switched to Wilderness lodge. We are saving $2000US (we are Canadian also) I kind of hope that we cant go in October (waiting for surgery date) and that we will have to wait til December where I have a back up reservation for Poly at nice affordable price. We did Christmas last year and wanted to try Halloween this year but I am having regrets about not going to Poly! Good Luck with your decision. I have issues with walking and being on monorail and being able to break was worth the money!!

I have a Family and Friends discount :grouphug: But mentioning that we could miss out on the Poly could be very true if I don't have that big discount next time! More to digest...

I agree with the others that I would stick with the Poly. We've stayed at both and while we loved CBR, the Poly is just amazing. It sounds to me that if you changed resorts, you might regret it. I'm sure you would have a great time at CBR, but it looks like your heart is set on the Poly (which is understandable as it is a great resort). Also, getting 40% off is a great deal that you might not come across again. With all of that said, if the extra cost for the Poly is doable without breaking the bank, I'd keep it. Good luck.
