Hi everyone, I have question for you guys.I live in Cape May, New jersey and we are supossed to leave out of Atlantic City International Airport late halloween night. Our problem is..... Sandy is heading our way. Do you think we will make our flight? Or should we attempt to drive down? If we drive down and miss our first night will we get our DVC points for the night we missed back since we are using DVC points during this trip? Hopefully someone will be able to help me with this problem. Thank you anyone who helps!

From the Member Website under Vacation Planning > Managing Reservations:
Disney Vacation Club Hurricane Policy Statement
From June 1st to November 30th, in the event a hurricane warning is issued by the National Hurricane Center for the Orlando area, Vero Beach area, Hilton Head Island, Oahu or for the Member's place of residence within 7 days before the scheduled arrival date, the Member may call Member Services prior to check-in to cancel or reschedule, based upon availability, their Disney Vacation Club Resort reservation without any cancellation or modification penalty.

Note: This policy pertains to hurricane warnings only. Other weather advisory levels are handled on a case by case basis and Members should contact Member Services.

When does this temporary policy become effective?
The temporary policy is effective in the event a hurricane warning is issued by the National Hurricane Center no more than 7 days before your scheduled arrival date for the Orlando area, Vero Beach area, Hilton Head Island, Oahu or for the Member's place of residence.

What can I do if a hurricane warning is issued?
If a hurricane warning is issued by the National Hurricane Center for the Orlando area, Vero Beach area, Hilton Head Island, Oahu or for the Member's place of residence no more than 7 days before your scheduled arrival date, you may call Member Services in advance to modify, based on availability, or cancel your Disney Vacation Club Resort reservation without any cancellation or modification penalty.

If you are to be staying on a Member Getaway and a hurricane warning is issued for that destination, please contact Member Services.

Will I be responsible for any cancellation or modification penalties or other amounts?
If you have products and services provided by third party suppliers that were not obtained through Member Services, such as airlines, hotels, car rental agencies or vacation insurance companies, you will continue to be responsible for any non-refundable payments, as well as cancellation penalties or change fees assessed by those suppliers. The policy does not apply to certain special events or dining experiences (e.g. Member cruise).

What if I prefer to reschedule my vacation to a different date because of a hurricane warning? Will I be able to get my same accommodations?
If you are scheduled to arrive within seven (7) days of the hurricane warning, you may call Member Services prior to check-in to reschedule, based upon availability, without penalty. We cannot guarantee availability of similar accommodations for the new travel dates. The policy does not apply to certain special events and dining experiences.

We are from the Ct and usually travel in Feb to WDW and on 2 occasions we had a Noreaster head straight for us on our travel day and on both occasions we called the airlines and left a few days early - both times (different airlines) we were charged a change fee but it was refunded to us since our original flights were ultimately canceled. Not sure if this is a possibility but worked for us quite well extra days of vacation vs. vacation cut short and both times we got a cheaper hotel off site.

First, Cape May County has issued a voluntary evacuation order for Cape May County residents living on the barrier islands, so be smart about the storm if you live on the islands. Here is the link to the CMC Office of Emergency Management:

Second, if you are flying out of ACY you are flying Spirit and they have issued their "Hurricane Buster Policy" for flights out of ACY. Here is that link:

Thrid, the previous post from "erionm" has the DVC information, but you can always call member services for help or clarification.

Finally, be very careful. Good luck with both your trip and the storm!

i spoke with MS two days ago about the hurricane policy and got the same answer about it being on a case by case basis. Normally if you do not check in on the check in date you lose all points for the reservation. I would call and explain the situation while continually checking the airline website to see what they are doing. If you are going to arrive after the original check in date be sure to call MS the day before you would normally check in. They may be able to cancel that one day and your points would then most likely go into holding for it. I don't know if they would just put them back into your account.
Your concern is getting there and ours was whether our famuly members will get back home. They are supposed to fly home Monday to Providence and then granddaughter is supposed to fly out again Tuesday afternoon. At this point there are contingency plans for her to change to leaving from Atlanta on Tuesday instead. Boy this storm is really causing all kinds of issues for people here in the NE. Good luck to all who have trips planned in the next few days.

Most airlines are allowing rebookings at no cost for flights scheduled through Wednesday (last I checked) so why not try to reschedule for a Thursday morning departure? Stay safe!
