Will this work with DME & RAC?

We've taken DME and rented a car on-property in the past, but this time I got a better rate renting directly at MCO. However, DH likes the idea of DME taking care of the luggage, so we were thinking of doing this...

DH, DS and DD all take DME, while I get the rental car and meet them on-property.

Question - should I still check-in at the DME desk, even though I won't be taking the bus? I'm just worried about any luggage that might have my name on it.

On the return trip, our flight is late (7:30pm). Since we have to be out of the room at 11am, can we check our luggage with RAC early? Will it automatically get to the airport, regardless of whether we take DME back? In other words, can the whole family take the rental car back to MCO, while Disney handles the luggage?

Your plan should work out just fine.

Checking in for DME now frequently involves only a cursory check of your documents at a podium near the Welcome Center, after which you go directly to the bus queues. There's no need for you to have to do that if the rest of your family is riding the bus.

And while your plan doesn't fall into the grey area regarding DME and luggage transfers, IMO, I will post a link to the sticky on DME and luggage transfers in a (probably unsuccessful) attempt to prevent this thread from deteriorating into a rehashing of that debate.

For your return, RAC is completely separate from DME and you are free to check your bags and use whatever form of transport you want to get back to MCO. You can't check in at RAC any earlier than 12 hours before your scheduled flight departure, however, so the earliest you can use RAC will by 7:30 a.m. As a result, you can check your bags with RAC anytime after that and until the desk closes at 1:00 p.m.

Only one person has to do the ME to get the bags there, but at least one person. I thought through the same thing last year. However, the reality is that you will most likely never get through renting the car before ME get's your family there unless it is at an alamo computer Kiosk (forget budget at MCO)....that's my humble opinion. The CCC (or if you are at an epcot resort swan/dolphin) is extremely fast with minimum wait time. Also, before you go try http://www.rentalcodes.com/

hey..that's just my 2 lincolns with a wheat back

We have done this before on several occasions. I get the rental car while DW and DD take DME. I use the Alamo Kiosk and get on the road in quick order. I then stop at the Vineland Super Wal-Mart and by the time I get onto property, DW has had us checked in and is waiting for me at the room. If it wasn't for the grocery stop, I think I would beat them by about 20 minutes.
