Is there any reason why this wouldn't work? We are planning on going Dec. 31 to Jan. 8, 2017 staying at the same resort. Thinking about getting 2 night package to get tickets included and the 20% off Planet Hollywood (my young adult children want to go), along with other discounts. Then get room only from Jan 2 to 8 and hopefully save some money with % off resort special if offered. Will we be able to make all our fastpasses ahead of time? Should this all run smoothly? I would like to save some money if possible but if it will be a hassle doing it this way don't know if it would be worth the saving, potentially a couple hundred dollars.
Thanks for any input :)

The % off room promos can be booked as a package, no relation to your check in date like there is with FD. You would just get the % off for the nights that are offered even if just a few nights were included for your dates. The other nights would be at full rack rate. The only time to split your stay would be if your dates are straddling two promotions. Can't combine promotions, so would need separate reservations to cover each one. Of course with Disney any of this can change!

As far as the "extras" like the PH voucher, those are valid for the package dates only, can't save them to use during the "room only" part of your stay.

So if we book a package Dec. 31 to Jan 8 and would be checking in on Dec. 31 when there is no discount offered and potentially Jan 1, and a % off would be offered on Jan 2 to 8 we would get the % off if they offer it and if its available for the resort we are at? I hope this makes sense :-)

Room only discount was a better deal for us for our trip in three weeks. The CM at CRO still built a package for us. I read later that this isn't a real package (we couldn't pay online--confirmed with Disney on the phone because it was out "type" of package) so we probably wouldn't get the rest of the package bonuses. Well, on Monday we got the luggage tags with our Magic Bands and yesterday we got the final package paperwork with all of the coupons and discounts.

So from our experience you should still be able to take advantage of room only discounts by adding on tickets and bundling it into a package.

Yes, as long as you are booking while a promotion is valid, this is how it would work for the % off deals.

You will have two separate reservations and will probably have to check out and check in again. Maybe have to change rooms.
