I know that you can get your clothes pressed but can they steam the wrinkles out of my daughters formal dresses???? Has anyone ever had this done?? If so, how far in advance do I need to do this and what is the cost????

THANKS!!!

We do this all the time. You can steam them yourself in the laundry room but I have too many girls and too many dresses :)

Send it out at least the day before you need it. There is a bag hanging in the closet with a cleaning slip attached. Fill it out making sure to write press/steam ONLY, do not check the cleaning column or you will be charged cleaning prices. Steaming/pressing costs half of what the cleaning charge is (and I can't remember the cost but not much more than I would pay at home).

The stateroom host will take it and bring it back. They have always done a great job on our stuff.

Jeanne.....have they ever told you they wouldn't do them if they had sequins, pearls or other decorations on them? We'd been told that once, and since then, I've never sent anything out to them.

They have steamed and pressed dresses for us that have sequins and beading without any problems.

I think they even do wedding dresses for all the brides and most of those have some type of decoration on them.

However, we once cruised with someone who said DCL refused to press their dress due to the fabric. When I saw it on formal night it was just an oriental style silky looking dress and I have no idea why they told them no?

Wondering if it's like almost everything else with DCL lately, depends on who is doing the pressing.

My oldest DD was married on Castaway Cay, and they did her dress, but wouldn't do the bridesmaids. :confused3

Yes they will do their dresses. Be sure to check the press/steam only. The cost of a formal is a bit more than the standard. I do not remember, but do know they will do them. They did them for my DD and some of our guest when we renewed our vows on the ship. One of the PP's said they did them for her daughter but not the bridesmaids....:confused3 I am wondering if that was just bad communication. The Bride's Dress is included for free in the wedding package, but everyone else has to pay. I do remember them telling me multiple times "the service to her dress is an additional charge". So maybe the CM misunderstood when saying no to the additional dresses. Maybe they thought she was asking for them to be done for free. I do not remember how much the cost is, but know it is an up-charge from the standard dress pressing. If there is a lot of beading, twil, lace; they do have you sign a waiver that they are not responsible for any damage done from the "normal process." One of our parties did have an Egyptian Silk and they refused her saying the normal process may in deed ruin the fabric due to the chemical they spray on the fabric. :headache: She hung it in the bathroom and it turned out perfect. Now I "THINK" the request needs to be made 24hours prior to needing the dress, but I would just send it off the first night so that it is done in plenty of time.:thumbsup2

What do they have in the laundry room for steaming? The iron?

Hope I don't really need to take out wrinkles but you never know. Thanks!

You're right...it may have been that they thought I meant for free...but having cruised a few times before that, I knew hers was included in the package and that the others wouldn't be free...but they may have misunderstood my request.

They did a beautiful job on my daughter's dress, by the way.:thumbsup2
And the rest we just hung near the showers for a day or two and they looked just fine.

I wrap anything that might wrinkle in layers of tissue paper, and that helps tremendously.

Yes I figured you understood the additional charge.;) I think the CM had the misunderstanding... When they did my DD's, I tell you they told me at least 8 times that there was a charge....:headache: I got to the place I told them; "Here is the dress and yes I KNOW it is an additional charge; which I will pay for and am aware it is not included in the package.":lmao: The CM then said; "Ok I will take it, but know it will be added to your SR account.:rolleyes1 My DH told me to circle the press/steam only on the order form and write at the bottom......Steam at an additional charge that I am aware will be added to my bill.....:rotfl2:

I also heard that rolling the outfit in plastic like at cleaners bag keeps the garmet from getting wrinkled. I know this is not enviromentally the best, but did hear from a DISer it really works.:thumbsup2
