"Will they keep this/cancel that" We are now Live from WDW, the Nicki & Todd show!

Breakfast looked yummy! I love eggs benedict :thumbsup2

So what was up with the very very very, unnaturally pink grapefruit juice  Did it taste right? It looked more like a fruit punch (which I would prefer ;) )

Oooh, the food at GFC looks good. :goodvibes

So let's hear how Sci-Fi was. I hope the food was edible.

Hey, have you bumped into Britney Spears? She was in MK today with her kids.

Figures the day we change our MK plans to HS Ms. Spears has to make an appearance!

Thank you!

What better way to get excited for my trip the end of next week than a Nicki and Todd show!

I hope you have a wonderful trip and make sure to do a food review!

Thanks so much for posting these menus!!!! Also, the report is great so far (as always). Hey, I may have to have one of those sunken treasure drinks. They look really good! Looking forward to reading more!

Thanks for reading! I discoved a new drink tonight, stay tuned!

Mmmm! I love eggs benedict and fresh fruit. Have only dined there once, but I thought the GFC was lovely.

Very beautiful setting for breakfast, so relaxing

I dont know, he drank it so I guess it was ok? :rotfl2: Personally I cannot stand that stuff!

The chips are all mixed in a huge bin in the kitchen..will try and take a pic tonight. And girlllll no worries we are going to Tonys tomorrow night

:woohoo:

Here is 50's Prime Time lunch and dinner menus

Thanks for the 50's menu. We're trying lunch there in May for the 1st time. We loved the burgers, O-rings, & shakes we had for lunch at Sci-fi last trip. I hope we don't end up wishing we'd gone back there instead.

On an unrelated subject, I can't believe it's so dead there. I told my DH we should drive over for the day. Our DS has school tomorrow though, & it will probably be more crowded Sat & Sun. :guilty:

So where did I leave off? Oh yeah HS! DH never met a pretzel that he didnt like so as soon as he spied a pretzel card he wandered away like a toddler and got in line...so here I am talking to him, or so I thought, and I said "what do you think? Um Hello?" I turn around and he is waving to me from a pretzel card....and I was worried about losing my 6 year old niece I am losing my 36 year old husband!

He loved it, me? Well I have better things to waste my carbs on! He said it was a fresh batch, not too salty and very soft in the middle and crisp on the outside.

We were very close to Sci Fi so I stopped in to make sure we were going to get a car for our seating...I had a ressie for 1pm. The CM at the desk confirmed that it was 1pm. So at 12:40 we were back at Sci Fi to check in. Different CM was at the desk, a young lad that is obviously new and didnt realize that I can check in early but not get seated until my time slot or an open table was ready. He told me I was a half hour early. I said no just 20 minutes, he argued with me and said my ressie was at 1:10. He said I can only check in 5 minutes before my ressie time. :scared1: I tried to explain and explain, after all I have had how many ressies in the last year I think I may know a bit more than Mr. Earning My Ears here.

DH didnt want to argue so we wandered next door to the Writer's Stop. What a cute funky little coffee shop with treats, books, and all kinds of great stuff. We planned on getting a treat here after Sci Fi but as you will see that didnt work out...thank goodness I had the pictures so you could drool!

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

At 3 minutes to 1pm we went back to Sci Fi...keep in mind that I have told you HS is deadville today ok? There are more newbie CM's at the desk, different from the last 2 I have encountered. I give my name, he logs me in and we sit. The CM's are calling the names and their English is horrible, they cannot speak the names, they are not using pagers and their voices are not loud at all. As you can imagine NO ONE is getting seated because they have no idea that it is actually their name being called!

A lot of people are walking in and getting seated, people are checking in 30 minutes before their ressie time and I am steaming. We are seated right there in the front by the check in desk so I can hear everything. I give them the benefit of the doubt and wait until 1:10pm. Now all the parties that are arriving early for their time are getting seated and we are not so DH gets up, and at the same time there is a manager their and turns out that the newbie never checked us in! The manager apologized and we were seated around 1:20 so no biggie we were only 10 minutes late BUT they could have seated us earlier and they could have at least checked us in! DH explained about the 5 minute before ressie time and the manager asked us to point out who told us that and she said she would make sure they were re-informed.

We are lead back to our car, the place was half empty. There are empty cars all over the place but they would not seat us in a front seat car, we were hitch hikers in a center car but that was ok with us we were just hungry!

The theme of Sci Fi is awesome, the atmosphere is the best and we had an amazing time! Both of us actually remembered some of the cartoons and skits...it was great! We are seated and our server, Mickey, comes right over and explained a few things and DH said to him, "Dont worry my wife already knows what both of us will be having, she has knows since she made the ressie!"

I was really wanting to get a drink at the Tune In Lounge so I skipped the boozy milkshake but Todd ordered the Space Monkey, chocolate milkshake with banana and coconut liqueurs and topped with whipped cream. He loved it, I tasted it and it was very strong and very very good but oh so filling but he was able to finish off the entire thing.

Jan25033.jpg

I had a diet vanilla coke...I know, I know it kinda defeats the purpose because a die coke with vanilla syrup? ... but I like it :thumbsup2

Jan25034.jpg

The onion rings are now an order for two and I was nervous because onion rings are not Todd's favorite but he said he would share them with me. After 3 quickly inhaled rings he said, "These are really the best onion rings I have ever had" and he was right, they were delicious. Tons of them, hot and crispy but very light, not greasy at all, not salty and the onion was thin and tender so when you bit the ring it cut clean through..you know how sometimes the onion pulls right out from the breading? Well this didnt happen.

Jan25035.jpg

I wanted to share a burger because I was getting full but he wanted a burger and I wanted the reuben so we had both. He ordered the burger with onions, mushrooms, american cheese, and fries. The burger was huge and just as good if not better than Beaches and Cream. The bun was not the CS style bun but a huge bakery bun. The fries were hot and crisp and not greasy at all. Can you see how red that tomato was? It tasted like it was fresh picked from my grandmother's garden.

Jan25045.jpg

I had the reuben and it was very good, not my local deli good but good enough. The corn beef wasnt salty, it was not stringy either. The sauerkraut was mild and the bread was ok, more like toasted instead of grilled. DH loved this too....I think he regretted the burger as soon as he saw my sandwich..probably because of the pickle.... but he did love both. I ordered the cucumber melon salad and it was really good, tasted like a vinegar dressing, nice and light and very refreshing. My sandwich looks like a funny face doesnt it? The pickle is the nose, the sandwich the eyes...ok Im weird I know.

Jan25044.jpg

The food runner busted us, we gave each other a kiss and she was delivering the food and she sang the K-I-S-S-I-N-G song and had the people around us laughing and then the waiter came by and said "I heard you got caught making out in the backseat!"

This place is a great spot for lunch, we loved our meal there and would be back in a heartbeat. Maybe this place gets a bad rap but honestly the burgers are to die for!

great reviews so far (as usual!!). ok, i am impressed on how your photos can make even pretzels look great!!! and now i will be dreaming about mickey mouse shortbread cookies:cloud9:

did you end up eating at sci fi after dealing with the oh so not accommodating CM???

looking forward to seeing more and more from your trip. thanks for the reviews!!

OMG - the breakfast at GFC looks delish!! Eggs Benedict is one of my all time favorites and looks like it was made perfect. And the plate of fresh fruit; yum-o!

Makes my breakfast this am of yogurt and a banana seem a little lame to say the least.

Oh well, only a little more then 2 months of torture until we're back!

Thanks for the live updates.

Great reviews so far!!! :goodvibes Loving the pics of the menus!!! Hope you guys are having a great time!!!

Okay...now where am I going to squeeze Sci-Fi in for our ADR's for next year? Mark took one look at that reuben and fell in love. And the onion rings...oh my God...I love onion rings. :worship:

Glad you had a great meal at Sci-fi. We always love it there. I hope that you can get virgin lapu lapus as I dont like booze of any kind but would like to drink out of one of those cool pineapples.

Great reviews! And your pictures...everything looks delicious!

Can't wait for the Main Street Bakery...cinnamon roll?? That's my answer and I'm sticking with it! YUM! :)

I'll take a Space Monkey, a cheeseburger, an order of onion rings, and a Mickey shortbread cookie, please! Actually, maybe I should make that two Space Monkeys!

Too funny about getting caught making out at the drive-in! :rotfl2:

If you guys read my August reviews you may remember I came back to you with "OK YOU GUYS I HAVE JUST FOUND THE BEST DINNER SPOT?"

Well can I say that again??? The Wave is insane...it is so good that DH is now sleeping with a huge grin on his face...from the food guys from the food...jeez you people! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

I have been reading so many wonderful reviews on the Wave lately that I decided to ditch Kona dinner for the Wave and man were we both glad that we did. We rode a very empty monorail over to the CR to a very empty lobby area and found the Wave. What a gorgeous restaurant. You enter a tunnel with blue lights and the entire place has a wave theme, the chairs, the drapes, the light fixtures etc...gorgeous setting with a nice dim light so you get a very romantic feel. The place was full when we arrived but we were seated right away to a 4 top table so DH and I could sit side by side at a booth...all the better to steal food from your mates plate my dear. For being a full dining room the mood was calm and peaceful...and yes there were many kids there too ;)

Todd started with a glass of some red wine. He like it alot...something the waiter recommended, a Shiraz or something. He also had an ice tea since he only wanted one glass of wine. They brought out this little plate of lemon slices too.

Jan25046.jpg

I had this little baby and I just had one..very strong and since I was so tried I felt the buzz faster than I normally would....plus I drank the entire thing before the waiter brought out the bread.

Jan25061.jpg

Jan25047.jpg

We shared the avocado citrus salad and this is the best salad I have ever had on WDW property. The baby greens are my fav but not DH, the creamy rich avocado was lightly salted, very light and tangy citrus dressing and orange, white grapefruit and red grapefruit segments...so amazingly yummy and I wish Todd ordered his own because I could have made a meal out of this thing.

Jan25048.jpg

Jan25049.jpg

Then came the bread and butter. The bread is a flax seed bread that has a nice hearty crust and a super tender and chewy center. I loved it, my white bread loving, carb addicted hubby didnt. The butter is unsalted with the exception of a few coarse ground grains on the top.

Jan25050.jpg

Jan25051.jpg

So far we are loving it! DH said to me, Can I pick our meals this time? What could I say to that...I felt guilt since I pick the places and the meals all the time so I said ok go for it. He opted for the filet for me with celery root and veggies, cooked medium with a wine reduction. OMIGOD it was so tender and flavorful I loved it, the veggies were like they were from a local garden..so clean and fresh tasting, no spices covering up the flavor of the veggies. The celery root mash, well it aint my thing, it was the consistancy of mashed potatoes with a heavy celery taste...DH loved it and ate it all.

Jan25054.jpg

He chose the cinnamon rubbed pork loin for himself which freaked me out since he didnt like the cinnamon flavored meats at Boma. It came with roasted fingerling potatoes which he shared with me and carmalized root veggies which were the same as what I had and an apple butter pat on each side of the plate. The pork was to die for good, so tender and flavorful, just a tiny slight hint of cinnamon, the veggies awesome but the potatoes...wow they were just the best thing ever! He not only cleaned his plate but mine as well...yes it was too good to leave behind.

Jan25057.jpg

The portions may looks small but that is very deceiving! Part 2 of the Wave coming up next.

I'm sure he was sleeping with a huge grin on his face from the drinks he had today. What else could it be? :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

everything looks yummy, especially the muffins at Writer's Stop. Thanks for the reviews and pictures!

We haven't been to Sci-Fi in a couple of years but always had good meals there. Those onion rings look & sound delicious :thumbsup2 The burger too :) Love the funny face sandwich

Question about the boozy milkshakes, do you remember what the choices/flavors are? I'm not a big banana fan (unless it's a banana split :upsidedow )

oh, and did you get your drink at Tune-in?

I am jumping in! I love your reviews but have never actually posted in any of them. I have never wanted to try Sci-Fi, but I ma have to change my mind after reading your review. It sounds amazing!

Part 2, The Wave...we are now ready to collapse from sheer pleasure of a fantastic meal and the waiter says, Coffee? Dessert? Todd immediately perks up and says, OF COURSE!

He had a plain coffee but it was organic coffee and actually very good.

Jan25058.jpg

I had vanilla roobios tea and it was yummy!

Jan25056.jpg

Here is the dessert menu:

Jan25052.jpg

Jan25053.jpg

Todd looks over the menu and says lets get one ok? I look back at him like :scared1: and he said "Just Kidding, you think I want the entire DisBoard community after my butt?" Such a smart young man, trained him early!

We both agreed on the Creamy Indulgence and Decadent Flavors.

Creamy Indulgence from left to right:

Jan25064.jpg

Chocolate Passionfruit Mousse with Pecan Olive Brittle. This was nice, dark chocolate with a sweet tang bite to it. DH loved the brittle

Jan25065.jpg

Coconut Panna Cotta with Passion Fruit drizzle. This was creamy but man just way too sweet...hard to take a second bite.

Jan25066.jpg

Cheesecake with Raspberry Coulis. This was the winner out of the six. The cheesecake was creamy and not heavy with a graham bottom and the raspberry added a nice sweetness to it.

Jan25067.jpg

Decadent Flavors from left to right:

Jan25059.jpg

Blueberry Compote with Yogurt Gelato. This was ok..the gelato was a bit like ice milk and the blueberries were good.

Jan25060.jpg

Lemon Cornbread with Vanilla Panna Cotta. This was a close run for first place, never had anything like it before but it was delish. Nice and lemony but not too tart or too sweet.

Jan25062.jpg

Chocolate Mousse with Salted Caramel. This was good but I wish I had more of the salted caramel taste.

Jan25063.jpg

We were very fat and happy kids at the end of this meal. DH is having a hard time trying Cali Grill now because he wants to go back to the Wave in October instead. Service and food was top notch and for all the this food we paid just $107 (With the TIW card including tip) so it wasnt a bad price. By the time we left there was only 14 tables eating and it was around 8pm.

The CR was very quiet, the monorail packed because of MK closing but back at the Poly it was pretty tame. I am hoping the rest of our trip is like this too.

We are getting a bit full from all this wonderful food so we are going to cancel Kona tomorrow morning and try to grab breakfast at Main Street Bakery, lunch at Cosmic Rays and then back to the resort for some pool time before our dinner at Tonys (drink at the lounge tomorrow night)....and while I didnt get a drink from the Tambu Lounge tonight I did stop by and ask the bartender if you can get a virgin Lapu Lapu and he said he can put juice in a pineapple for the kids, they do it all the time....he didnt tell me the price though so I think it might be a tad high for a kids drink.

So good night all! Thanks for hanging in with me!

You are killing me, Nicki. Now DH wants to go to Sci-Fi and The Wave in September. So when you get back, I'm emailing you what I had planned on for our meals, and YOU are going to tell me which two to drop. And, actually, you got me tuned into Grand Floridian Cafe, so it may have to be THREE you tell me to drop. The only other option is extending our trip.... :rotfl:
