Will there ever be a "Beastly Kingdom" at AK?

personally i want BK but i doubt it, although there is hope with the building of EE.

Maybe if the "Narnia" movie takes off, and sequels are planned, Disney will begin to think creatively about mythic creatures and putting them in the park.

If Disney wants to add this sort of thing because they want it for them, then fine. I personally don't really like the idea of unicorns. However, that's just me.

However, if Disney does it to compete with companies like Universal's IOA, then I see a big problem.

Disney has already said to have designed DTD because of Universal's CW, and Animal Kingdom to compete with Tampa's Busch Gardens. I think that's fine but that's the limit. Whether Disney has unicorns in folklore or not, and even though Disney has attractions that have nothing to do with Disney, something about Unicorns just doens't sit right with me.
DTD (under a different name) opened in 1975. Pleasure Island opened in 1989. The area was renamed DTD in 1997, and West Side opened in 1999. Thus DTD is in no way a response to Universal City Walk.

Here is an article about some Disney attractions that were designed but never built. The Dragon Tower attraction was originally slated for Beastlie Kingdomme land planned for Disney's Animal Kingdom park in Florida.

Thanks Linda. Have never seen this before.

when Iger is in charge, hopefully he'll put a stop to any and all rumors and add Australia into Animal Kingdom instead of animals that don't actually exist. There are so many wonderful animals in Australia! They could do so much with it!

What a great idea. I would love to see an Australia "land" at AK.

Carl.

Ooh ooh...the idea of this Beastly Kingdom thing really appeals to me. I've always been interested in mythical creatures, especially dragons! Oh, I do hope they do still go through with it...it would be a nice change from the rides that Disney already has, and I think that the idea (if it was ever put into motion) would do very well! I can only hope!!

I don't think this was the only land that was on the drawing table and didn't make it, was it? One of the reasons AK is disappointing to me is that it certainly doesn't live up to it's original promises.

Beastly Kingdom was the only other area that was designed for the parks opening. I am curious what you feel the parks original promises was. The park said that is a "kingdom of animals ... real, ancient and imagined." It seems to me that the park has al of these well covered. And Everest will add to the imagined.

I am very dissapointed in Dinoland. It had so much protential and could have been very educational in a fun way.Instead it's a carnival.
Everest is a good 1st first step toward the imagined . I just hope much more will be added. I would really like to see someting with a Dragon somewhere.Girls love to play Princess and my boys were always fasinated with Dinosaurs and Dragons.

The story was told to me thusly:

When Animal Kingdom opened, there was a clamoring for "more Disney characters"

Hence Camp Minnie-Mickey.

I suppose there is room elsewhere in the park for a Beastly Kingdom(me)
Disney hints:

But really, aren't there not a lot of Disney characters in Epcot either? I mean I know there's that big character bus, but that's really only at certain times of the day. I guess my feeling is, if you really want to see characters go MK or MGM :confused3

That being said, I love the characters! Just wanted to clarify! ;) ::MickeyMo

Dinoland is weak both in name (THAT'S the best they could come up with??) and in the way it was carried out.

BK could be awesome if done right.

Am I crazy? Weren't there something like 3 or 4 lands that they scrapped?

Nope. Beastly Kingdom was the only land ever designed for AK and not built.

On this "mythology" tangent:

Disney imagineers who worked on the Beastly Kingdom concept must literally weep after experiencing the incredible scale of the attractions of the "Lost Continent" section of IOA at Universal. Some shots of the latter:

Exterior of the Mythos restaurant (best food I've ever had in an amusement park):

Entrance to Poseidon's Fury (the size of this thing is incredible, the structure you're looking at below is at least 400 feet wide):

::MinnieMo According to the Orlando Business Journal August 20,2001 Beastly rumors, flying roller coasters, hall of famers

Alan Byrd
------------------------------------------------------------
Once again, there are hints that Walt Disney World might be ready to begin work on Beastly Kingdom -- a planned, but never built, section of Animal Kingdom.
For those who don't remember, Beastly Kingdom would explore mythological animals, such as dragons and unicorns. Plans called for a large roller coaster, as opposed to the tamer, family-friendly coasters slated for Disney's Dinoland.
Three years after Animal Kingdom opened -- and not a unicorn in sight -- you could hardly blame some for believing that the real myth was Beastly Kingdom, as speculation bounced it back on the drawing boards, then off the drawing boards, then on again.
That's why word that something big is planned in 2004 for Animal Kingdom has brought back beastly rumors.
Walt Disney World's president, Al Weiss, told cast members the Disney team is designing an "E-ticket" attraction and a new "land" -- similar to the Asia and Africa continents already represented -- for Animal Kingdom that would open in three years.
The comments were confirmed by Paul Pressler, chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, in an interview with Laughingplace.com.
Currently, Animal Kingdom is adding a new section to Dinoland with the new family roller coasters and a carnival area, but that's scheduled to open in 2003. Besides, they don't include an E-ticket attraction. For those who don't remember, E-tickets were used for only Disney's best work.
Of course, Pressler wouldn't elaborate. Neither will Disney officials.

May 2000
Turns out the new coaster Expedition Everest.
We can only hope its a beginning for Beastlie Kingdome!
