Will the Soarin movie ever change?

Yes, it will eventually change. And there will be great stress brought on to masses of people who cringe and cry because the original was better and how could they ever change such a classic.

I think it will get updated...as soon as digital projection technology reaches the resolution required and at the price point to make Disney jump on it (or the current system completely fails and forces them to do it sooner).

Soarin' uses an IMAX Dome (nee Omnimax) projection system, a modified version of IMAX. The effective resolution of IMAX film is quite high - still significantly higher than digital projection systems (even "Digital IMAX" isn't nearly as good as the film). It's getting closer, and they may have it within a year or two.

This makes sense, seeing as most of the World Showcase films are getting changed into full digital setups

A buss driver told me this was to be re-themed as the new Avatar ride, flying "dragons" the whole nine yards! :rotfl:

How could this possibly bother you?

It bothers me too. Being a non-christian man I really hate having Christmas and Christianity in general shoved down my throat, however this is not the time or place to discuss that.

Soarin will change when it either stops working or becomes so horribly outdated it just doesn't make sense. I say give it at least 3-5 years. Likely 5-10.

I agree...they'll beat it like a rented mule until the bolts fall out.

But you got me laughing about the Christmas thing...
I never saw anyone who was put off by tinsel and plastic pine trees (even tongue in cheek)

It's not like they have a giant crucifix bolted to the Matterhorn, lit by LEDs, with a Celine Dion soundtrack laid down...

It's not just disney. I just get put off in general. The thing that really makes me angry is the fact I have to take vacation days from work for my holidays and Christmas and Easter are national holidays. Separation of church and state my A**

Soarin' changes when the rides aren't two hours long most days. Star Tours changed cause hardly anyone was riding.

People say its an "easy" fix, but producing a new movie for Soarin would likely exceed $1 million. (remember, you have a large format film to be produced, ride mechanism, smells...etc.)

The funny thing is certain people ***** that "oh, that movie is old, they should change it." Well, if they changed it tomorrow, half the people would ***** "Oh, the old movie was so much better" and the other half 3 years later would ***** "Oh, I'm sick of this movie".

So, again, what's Disneys motivation. It won't bring more people into the park, and they'll get more whining for changing it than they do just keeping it the same.

I myself wish they would just get a new print of the existing film, its looking really raggedy.

Easy Fix: One theater shows Soarin' over California....the other theater shows Soarin' over ______ somewhere else

Except now you've essentially cut the capacity in half since people would want the new film... or the old.

2 different "rides", each with 1/2 the capacity of the existing.

Heck, I'd be happy if they'd just get new PRINTS of the existing film. It's starting to show it's age.

Agreed!!!

I wonder if they would consider soaring over Glen Rock as part of the new movie?
I'd wave.

I disagree...the average guest won't care and will go to whichever line is the shortest IMO, the rest of the guests will choose which one they want to ride, or get a fastpass for it.

The film is showing its age and it would be nice to have an updated film with better technology. I think a nice tie in to the World Showcase would be to soar over countries featured in the WS.

I highly doubt any update to Soarin will happen soon, and it certainly won't happen ASAP while TT is closed.

A majority of WDW guests are 1st time visitors and Soarin, any movie or attraction is new to them. Be grateful they update/ create new attractions as much as they do.
Look what happens when they do revamp/create: people go crazy, ie. Mr Toad.

I think the ultimate plan would to have Soarin' Over California at DCA and have a new film at EPOCT. It would be neat to soar over the real countries of all the World Showcase pavillions. I would like them to keep the same score, it is so gorgeous. While this would be nice I am still happy with the same movie and feel like there are other projects I'd rather seen done.

I've said this before, but I think what they've done with Star Tours is the general foundation of how they can keep certain rides "fresh" for repeat guests. That is, have multiple "branch" points in the film, each with a variety of options that is randomly selected for each ride.

And it's quite possible to do, though it will take some work. First and foremost, they'll need to switch from film to digital projection. They'll need to sync up appropriate ride movements and musical score to make the transitions seamless. And they'll have to rework the ride control systems to account for the various options rather than a set script.

But it can be done, and once done, it should be far simpler to add to the available options as it was to put the system in in the first place.

This is a great idea! --Katie

Worlds better: Abandon the post-ride movie and put up flat screens in the queue with updated bits of the movie instead.

As queues go, its already very dull until you get to the loading area.

see I think that would be a really smart idea because it would finally be something to look at other than the mural
