Having grandchildren gives me the all but forgotten charm of having Santa stories to share with little ones. You know the ones, "you better be good Santa is making his gift list for ONLY the good boys and girls. There is the fresh baked cookies we put out to ensure the extra special gift, and oh ya the loooonnggggggg Santa letter where you realize maybe having an only child was not sure a brainy idea.
I now would like to share the moment Daughter found out there was not really a "Christmas eve Santa". ( We all know there are the Santa helpers). She came home from school and said Mom, Shellby said there is no Santa. Is that true? Well I asked her what do you think? ( For the last few years she would say -- "well I think there is a Santa"-- so I would leave it at that) This year was different she again asked and ended the question with, "I want to know-- I do not want kids at school to laugh at me if there is not really a Santa". I was found out-- oh that hurt. I told her -- There was NOT a Santa -- he lives in our hearts. I also told her this is the only time a parent can lie to their child. I also reminded her of the joy she had believing in Santa and that she was now in charge of the secret and that she needed to make sure to let it live in the hearts of the younger kids. From that moment on she has lived the Holiday spirit making sure family and friends have a wonderful holiday season.
Oh, Yes there was one more question she asked that afternoon. It was this--"And I suppose there is no Easter Bunny either." I Just laughed and said caught again.
