We have not had a major outbreak in our area yet, however I'm wondering, if by everyone having a week-2 weeks off from school will help with the outbreaks?

My thought was/is that the kids are not sharing things, passing germs etc.. we can be more diligent at home with handwashing etc.. than they are at school.

My dd's haven't gotten it, and were not vaccinated per doctors advice, though I've got a cabinet full of supplies should the get sick.

Your thoughts?

There are a lot of schools in our area closing a week ahead of time for a longer break in hopes that it will slow this flu down. I hope it does some good.

I hope with the school vacation that the school will take it upon themselves to wash the desks/chairs/doorhandles down to have them disinfected upon the kids return.

I offered to do this in my DS' kindergarten class and his teacher loved the fact I was willing to help out.

You might want to ask your school if they have plans to do this, I really think it's a good idea.

I don't see how it will help to slow any illnessess down, it may even make it worse.

People travel a lot during these holidays and it may actually help to spread it around.

I heard on the news this pm that they think in Indiana that the flu season may have peaked already. I hope thats the case!

I guess I had hoped that people with the flu wouldnt travel!...

I know that in my DD's school the custodians work during vacation...I emailed the school principal earlier this evening, to confirm that we didn't have kids out sick yet.... They had the school holiday concert today and I didnt notice a lack of kids...of course, theres only 200 kids in the school...She said they were doing a major disenfection just in case. The teachers luckily disinfect the community used stuff (blocks for counting etc..) on a regular basis, and DD7 said her teacher has been using lysol on a lot of stuff lately.

Luckily for us, we only travel 5 minutes for the holidays, and if ANYONE in either location is showing signs of the flu, we wont be going...I've spent enough time in the ER with DD6 and her asthma, breathing conditions in the winter, she's made it a full 2 winters without any breathing problems...she doesnt need anything like this to set her back!
