I think it would pose more of a problem when a girl did have her period.
Lets face it, when I have mine I'd get out my gun and shoot everyone, particularly those of the opposite sexI'm literally not right of mind at certain times of the month. Throw me in a desert without chocolate...I shutter at the thought.

Oh please this is discussion about periods is just stupid. Thousands of women in the military survive it every month, deployed or not and there have been no incidents of crazy women shooting men during their periods. Stating things like this just feeds the stereotypes many women in the military have been working for years to overcome.

ToriLammy - and I will be right there beside you fighting against women being drafted!!!
If the draft is ever reinstated Congress will be hard pressed not to include women. There is no reason to draft our sons and not our daughters. I hope it never comes to either being drafted but will fight like the devil to make sure they include women in any future draft.

ToriLammy - and I will be right there beside you fighting against women being drafted!!! If a girl wants to serve her country then by all means let her. But I am just totally against my DD being in the front lines - what some of the countries do to women when they are caught just turns my stomach. Yes, I do dread it if my DS is drafted. My great-grandfather was in WWI, my grandfather was in WWII, and my Dad was in Vietnam. The stories they have told me, just makes me scared to even think about her being out there. I am very patriotic, but then I am old fashioned also. I was brought up that the man takes care of the women, and I kind of like it. Now before you flame me, I have no problem with women working (I work). I just feel like the front lines are not a place I want my DD. So you can fight all you want, but I think there are a lot of people who feel the same as I do and I think it will stay volunteer for woman.

I respect your opinion, and if my opinions sound like I'm setting the womans movement back a few years, well, then so be it.
Originally posted by ToriLammyThere are some very feminine women in the military. Men still hold doors open for women in uniform. Drill Sgts are not allowed to cuss at anyone (at least I wasn't when I was drill sgt in the Air Force back in 1981 - doubt it has changed at all if anything they are even nicer today). That's easy for you to say, because setting the movement back just a few years still isn't such a bad position to be in. But the problem with the "take me back to Bedrock so that the big, strong man can protect the weak little woman" attitude is that when it is allowed to happen, we don't just gain protection, we lose rights.
Well said TL, and I'll be right there with you! As the mother of both a daughter and a son, I'm simply amazed by the idea that it's OK to face losing a son to war, but not a daughter. Both of my children are equally precious to me, and I can't imagine telling my son "I don't mind you going off to war, but God forbid they send your sister!!"
I respect your opinion, but you seem to be having a very hard time respecting mine.
And you know what? I'm NOT as strong as a man. I don't think there is anything wrong with admitting that. I do believe that there is a physical and emotional difference.
I'm 5'1-5'2 and very frail, I have no pain tolerance
I don't think that makes me less of a person, I just think that makes me different than you.

You're right, I do. I don't have much respect for anyone that is willing to sit back and enjoy all of the benefits of other people's sacrifices all the while vowing to run and hide in Canada if they are called upon to do the same for others.]
Most jobs in the military don't require a great deal of strength, but of course, I'm sure you already know that.
I have absolutely no idea how I'm going to deal with pregnancy and labor. You cannot comprehend how low my pain tolerance is, lol, but I'll deal with that hopefully many years from now.I guess giving birth is out then.
If you read my post you would also know that I pointed out that I wouldn't be able to EMOTIONALLY and MENTALLY handle what goes on in war.

Oh, very true - shopping malls and designer boutiques are pretty few and far between in war zones...

That was low, even for you.
You know, I've tried to be respectful to you, even though I disagree with your opinion. I don't know if it's because I'm only 19, or because I've hit a nerve, but that was one obnoxious and undeserving comment.
You have no idea what my life is like at home and what I've been through, so how are you capable of knowing if I'm emotionally/mentally stable enough to survive what goes on in war?
I admitted that I was weak, that I wouldn't be able to handle it. I don't think that makes me any less of a person. It has nothing to do with the lack of comforts of home, the lack of shopping, or the lack of the standard of living that I'm used to. Nowhere in any of my posts did I mention that. If I did, hey, bring on the shopping comments, but it's not the case.

I call it like I see it - I'm not into spreading about copious amounts of pixie dust. If you consider that condescending and rude, so be it.
