Will the cast member get in trouble?

I would like to contact guest services about a CM that did something for my daughter that made her day, but I'm not sure if what he did was something that could get him in trouble...I don't think so but want to be sure.

We were at Gaston's Tavern during the halloween party and my daughter had been saving a snack credit for a Lefou's brew. We got into the tavern and she ordered her drink in the souvenir mug, not realizing that the snack credit only got her the drink, and she'd have to pay for the mug. She didn't have much money left (we give the kids a souvenir fund each trip), and wanted to get a set of ears she'd seen. She didn't have enough money for both. She was just about to tell the CM that she would just have the drink when he said to her...don't worry, princess, you can get the mug with your snack credit.

It was a small thing, but my DD was thrilled, and talked about how nice he was the rest of the night. I'd like to report how much we appreciated it, but want to be sure it was something he was "supposed" to do.

TIA!

Sounds like pixie dust to me! I don't think he'd get in trouble since people report way more generous acts than that. I'm so happy she got pixie dusted and hope she got her ears!

I think he will be fine. Cast members are given leaway to do these kinds of things.

Yeah, just a little pixie dust. They do it all the time, especially at Gaston's I've noticed. The good will engendered toward you and your family and the likelihood that you will be a return visitor and that you will tell this story to others to make them also want to visit is worth way more than a plastic cup to Disney.

Okay, good...I figured as much but wanted to be 100% sure...I'd hate to get him in trouble.

I'll agree... Pixie Dust. If you're worried about what happened, then "adjust" the story that he went above and beyond the call of duty to make sure that she had a great experience at Gaston's Tavern! Don't go into specifics. Also, for future trips, a lot of people make "Outstanding CM" cards to hand out. The CM's then can show their superiors and they get noticed for it... (We're going to make and take cards with us for our trip in January to hand out)

Not likely to get in trouble at all. Especially since they did it for a child and as you said it makes it sound like it made your daughters trip even more special. He'll actually probably get praised for making a guests day.

I love these little stories of special things that make someone's trip. Something you know not every guest will get, but, right at that moment, you were that special guest. Your daughter was. So glad she had that magic.

They are great, but sadly due to our sharing them they happen less frequently because people expect these things now instead of pure pixie dust.

That really is a shame. We book our holiday on the understanding that we will get no more than we have paid for (OK, we come back because the service we got was very good) and that we are going to be happy, that is going to eb fun and a fab holiday. The magic extras might not happen to us, but, that's OK, cos they are magic extras and we're already super lucky to be there at all. Blimey, when I was growing up, WDW was a dream. Might as well have been fictional for all we were ever going to go there. That I have taken my son and will take my daughter is special enough!

Definitely-they gave me a cinnamon roll out of the blue at Gaston's one night.:)

The CM will not be in any "trouble".

Yeah, they came out on a hot day and gave my friend a free Lefeu's because he "looked like he was hot," standing by the back railing of 7DMT. The funny thing is he had planned to get one after we rode it and we were just waiting for our fast pass window to open. They probably would have brought me one too, but I had kind of wandered off a bit, so we weren't standing together. I've seen them do that to others there too. That Gaston, what a guy!

It is a shame. People come on these different forums and poke and prod at what they can get or should look/ask for. This is why getting Birthday buttons and such aren't necessarily effective anymore. People basically demand "magical" things from Disney and their CM's and it's just wrong because it costs the rest of us that experience.

I think that the unexpected moments such as the gift the OP's DD experienced are way different than the "special" things the CM's used to do and no longer are able to due to guest demand. There is nothing that prompted this extra kindness other than a CM who saw a little girl who was making a very hard decision. I know that there are a lot of fun things that are gone, but I doubt very much that a guest could force a CM to gift a free item. I am glad that there are still random acts of Pixie Dust that no one can predict or ask for. I would have loved to see the OP's DD that day! I believe that moment would have been a gift for me too! Seeing people surprised like that is always a treat that makes my day!

Yep, pass on praise for that CM. Not only is it Pixie Dust, but I think it's even more so today. I completely agree that the "me first" crowd has started putting demands on CMs and WDW in general that cause them to not necessarily be able to do some of the things they used to. From a CM perspective, you can imagine how they may become jaded fairly easy. They deal with guests all day long who think WDW should revolve around their individual demands and will have a temper tantrum if it doesn't. We have a family friend who is a CM and she tells us all kinds of stories. So for the CM to still want to sprinkle that kind of Pixie Dust, IMO, is even more special today than it was 15 years ago.

Not only that, I'll bet OP DD will remember that little moment for the rest of her life and will always tell that story. For WDW, it was a $2 mug, but for the young girl, it's a priceless memory. I love it!!

Yeah, I definitely think cast members have some ability to sprinkle pixie dust here and there.

We were buying some stuff at DHS one day and the CM checking us out was giving us a little trivia...we got stumped on one but my (then) 4 year old DD spoke up and answered correctly. I think he could see how shocked we were that she answered (because she was super duper shy at the time).

He asked her the question again, and she answered. He made a huge deal and then directed her over to the stuffed animal display and told her to pick one. Her day was made! :)

We still talk about that to this day, and she still sleeps with that Mickey she picked out (she will be 10 soon).
