Will the 2026 World Cup affect your travel plans in 2026? ⚽️ 🏟🏆

Vancouver, Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Guadalajara, Mexico City, Monterrey, Houston, Dallas, Kansas City, Atlanta, Miami, Toronto, Boston, Philadelphia, and New York/New Jersey are the cities hosting. Not to mention the fanfests and watch parties that will be happening across the entire North American continent. 🌎🇺🇸🇨🇦🇲🇽

Yes, hoping to get tickets to at least one game, hoping in the US or Canada, so will (hopefully) be travelling and possibly to someplace we've never been to!

It was more of a question about travel plans in regards to vacations being affected by the tournament locations.
I guess since I don't follow soccer and have no clue where things are, then no. It wouldn't. (I live in NYC and none of the other cities listed are really on my "must travel to" list.)

What is the World Cup?

Is it some sort of sports ball thing?

:teeth:

It might.

In the past I have rearranged plans because when looking at airfare or hotel I found the prices too high and later found out because there was a large convention or sports event that same time period. But I have never specifically excluded a city or country proactively.

No. Don't understand soccer. Don't follow soccer.
I'm not trying to annoy you but if you ever just want to understand the basics in the future, I recommend these simple videos (feel free to ignore them) :

I'm curious @kdonnel , are Atlanta residents excited to be hosting the WC and being the national training center's home city?

I don't follow soccer, but I know we are one of those cities. I'm not sure if it's going to coincide with any of our softball related travel, but if there's a big sporting event in town...it will definitely have some local impact. Still, it's good to host things like this as it brings in tourism revenue. We're Houston area, but depending on the timing, it could also impact us going through Dallas. I guess it could impact other things too as some of those other metro areas are sometimes locations for top tournaments in our travel seasons.

I hope you consider giving the sport (or at least the tournament) a chance. Houston and Dallas are hosting some of the most important matches and will definitely have fanfests throughout the area. Registration for tickets is open on the FIFA website. You cannot buy tickets yet but it puts you on the list to recieve an email (most likely in December) when tickets become available (they will sellout extremely quickly when they do).

Other than a countdown at the airport as you come up to baggage claim, I have seen nothing related to the World Cup coming to town.

I'll make sure to tell my friend who lives in South Jersey but works in Philly not to go into the city when that is happening. She already avoids the Septa whenever there is an Eagles or Phillies game.

18 months away, so I think some things might be coming out in December when the draw happens.

The World Cup lasts over a month, just an FYI.

Well, she'll have to hope and pray WC fans are not as bad as Philly sports team fans (her words, not mine. She complains all the time about how horrible they are).
The latest news story about that Philadelphia fan definitely didn't help their reputation. WC fans as a whole are very respectful (there a few exceptions like England fans). Most are passionate about their country's team but also want to see what the host country has to offer as well. 48 teams qualify (including the 🇺🇸) but fans from over 200 countries come to the WC every tournament.
