I am currently in the part in Julie Andrews biography when she is starting My Fair Lady on Broadway.

I saw her in My Fair Lady when the show was touring and here in Boston! It was WONDERFUL. I guess I didn't recognize the song from the show. In my defense, it was way back in middle school. My favorite was "Wouldn't It Be Loverly". We sang it in our vocal techniques class in high school too.

"Lots of chocolates for me to eat.
Lots of coals makin' lots of heat.
Warm face, warm hands warm feet
Oh woooouldn't it be loverly."

I also saw her in Victor/Victoria on Broadway. It was loverly too.

LL my DH refers to Princess Bride as a cultural classic...and he's SO right. Maybe you could give it another try, if you saw it all the way through I'm sure something would click into place and you'd love it

I wholeheartedly concur! And the book is excellent, too, though I'll let you get by with just the movie.

Ooh, I've found it's rare that the DBFs and DHs and DFs of the world can quote this movie when their SOs cannot. Mind if I ask why it doesn't really appeal to you?

I have this issue with movies that people are so passionate about. I hear how wonderful it is and then I watch it and meh. Princess Bride has never kept my attention.
Totally different movie genre but this happened with Old School, everyone told me how great it was and though funny, it was not as great as expected.

Your not the only one. When I first saw Princess Bride I didn't see what the attraction was. Only when I saw 2 drunk friends perform it for me, did I finally see the humor.

On the other hand I adore Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Know all the lines by heart, start laughing before the funny parts. I made a friend watch with me once and she just didn't get it. She thought it was funnier to watch me and my roomate try not to laugh and ruin the film for her.

I love Monty Python. My favourite film is The Life of Brian.....I do feel guilty about this. I know it's considered blasphemy in some circles but it is hell of a funny

That one is too funny too. Really love all the Monty Python films, as well as one of my favorite funny movies of all time "A Fish Called Wanda". Whenever I'm flipping through the stations and see it's on tv I have to watch it.
