Will resorts still provide luggage holding services?

All I have done for weeks on end is READ READ READ and I have not stumbled upon this topic yet. Will resorts continue the service of holding your luggage if your room isn’t ready and you want to head to the parks or your flight home isn’t until late in the day? Apologies if I somehow missed this in the tsunami of news in recent days.

I believe the answer to this is yes, because frankly, I don't see how they can't provide this service. If they want their guests to be able to go to a park when they arrive and their room isn't ready, or on their check out days, luggage storage is the only option for that for many people.

Additionally, Resort Airline Check In service will resume on 7/12. If you are flying and have 3 hours before your flight departure time, you can check in your luggage at this desk between 5am-12pm and they will send it ahead to the airport for you so you don't have to hassle with it again until you get to your home airport. Also saves time at the airport by allowing you to go straight to the security checkpoint whne you arrive.

We were curious if Bell Services will continue to transfer luggage between resorts. The idea of lugging all of our gear from BWV to BCV is not appealing and paying for a taxi for less than a mile seems silly too.

To drive from Beach Club to Boardwalk is actually 2 miles because you have to go all the way around. The resort may have taxis out front you can grab, but I would probably just get an Uber/Lyft. It will likely be there in minutes and cost roughly $8.

I would guess Disney will still provide luggage transfers, though I can't confirm. I have read horror stories about luggage taking forever to receive (12+ hours in some cases) so I've always been hesitant to use the service. With all the current precautions and cutbacks, I would not be surprised if it takes long. But on the flipside, its also possible it could be quick because there are fewer guests. Hard to say.

It's good exercise. Plus it's there at your new location when you are ready to collect it.

Resort Services

Some Disney Resort hotel services will be modified or unavailable during the initial reopening period, based on physical distancing and health guidelines.
Changes include:
  • Bell Services will deliver luggage to rooms, but will not escort Guests
  • Club-level service is temporarily unavailable
  • Deliveries may only be made to occupied rooms
  • In-room celebrations are not available
  • In-room dining is not available
  • Dry-cleaning and valet laundry services is temporarily unavailable; self-service laundry is available
  • Shipping services are temporarily unavailable
  • Resort airline check-in service may be temporarily unavailable

This still doesn’t explicitly answer my question, really only airline luggage delivery (yellow tag stuff). I’m talking carry on bags that are with me until I’m ready to go to the parks.

They have to offer luggage holding. Can you imagine MK bag check with everyone bringing their luggage into the park on arrival day?:)
This, plus the fact that rolling luggage isn't permitted on Disney transportation other than DME.

If they will deliver luggage, they will continue to store it. If they didn't, people would have to congregate waiting for their room to be ready or waiting for their flight while they sit with their luggage because its not permitted on Disney transportation. Even if they did permit it on transportation, it would mean the park bag check would be a log jam because people would be bringing full suitcases to the parks. Neither of these things are going to happen, especially with all the social distancing precautions Disney has announced so far.

The big thing that I would note there is that they will not deliver luggage to an unoccupied room. That means you must be present in the room when they deliver your luggage.

If you're not present, Bell Services will hold them & you can get them later.

I've used the service several times in the past with no issue, and wouldn't hesitate to use it again. Have always had an afternoon delivery of luggage that we dropped off at the other resort that morning.

I am curious why they would limit delivery to times you are in the room. Seems like you'd have less contact if they delivered when you aren't in your rooms. I'm curious if they will say anything about tipping.

Do they generally leave it outside the room when they deliver or do they put it inside? I haven’t used bell services.

This is the normal Bell Services process. You have to be present. The only modification at this time is that Bell Services will not escort you to your room as they have in the past. Only DME luggage delivery has been able to place your bags in your room without you present in the past.

Previously they would deliver your bags in your room where you indicate they should be placed. We have not seen any recent posts about how they are doing it now. You must be present in the room for Bell Services to deliver.

This isn't different than before when things were "normal". As PP mentions, the new guidelines say bell services will not escort guests. To my knowledge, DME luggage delivery will still occur as normal, without you in the room, but if you want your stored bags delivered when you room is ready, you will need to call for it and be present in the room like it always has been. I think this is more for liability purposes than anything else.

Of course many people have had positive experiences. But its worth noting the number of poor experiences that have been shared here over the years regarding the luggage transfers. Its notoriously inconsistent and there's no reliable timeframe for it. Its important for people to aware of this so they can decide whether they want to Uber with their luggage or use the transfer. It may not be an issue if they don't need their luggage until later anyhow.

At some hotels, if they weren’t too busy, the bell services person with the rolling rack of your luggage accompanied you to your room as soon as you finished checking in at the front desk. I can’t remember if Disney ever did this, or if they always waited for you to get to your room and then call down to have bell services bring up your luggage.

I assumed that’s what the new rule referred to.

(Obviously different story if you take Magical Express and have them deliver your luggage.)
