Will my toddler get enough veggies?

We're making a stop to grab some leafy greens. I hate them but my daughter can't get enough kale and chard. I'm sure I won't be finding that at any restaurant in WDW so we'll be cooking some up for her after her nap time. I don't want her not eating it for two weeks then rejecting it upon our return. Why ruin a good thing :D

Remember that you can't bring glass containers into the parks. Baby food is an exception; can't tell whether or not you planned on feeding your toddler baby food.

I would maybe bring along something like the Happy Baby pouches... there are some interesting combinations that include both fruit and veggies. They look really portable!

I love the Happy Baby puffs... my little guy loves the ones that contain greens. :goodvibes

at the food courts at some of the resorts....the dinner meals have options like green beans and cooked carrots and corn.....and at the buffets, if you do any of them...the kids devoured brocolli and green beans....our grandkids were young when we took them two years ago and then last year again they had plenty of choices...if they didnt get enough veggies we did the fruits on that day...

Now I'm feeling self-conscious about feeding my son healthy foods while on vacation.

Oh dear lord, what has this world come to...please do NOT feel bad for wanting your kids to eat healthy! Maybe if more people tried to do this...Disney would actually supply more healthy options.

The main reason Disney and other DON'T, is because there really isn't a demand for it...most parents don't want to bother. I admit for us it is a struggle...our DD loves fruit but while she will eat some vegetables, it is much harder to get her to eat them...one day she loves carrots, and the next day she won't touch them...

You guys are too funny.

I did consider garden grocer. We'll see how the packing goes!!

Thanks for the feedback. I do appreciate the suggestions about veggie substitutes: carrot cake and the likes.

Don't feel self-conscious AT ALL. We do the same thing.

I have no problem with "treats" while on vacation...they eat stuff they would almost NEVER get at home. But when you're "on the ground" for 10 days, I don't feel like I can feed them burgers and fries for 20 meals. I WOULDN'T want to eat that....so I don't expect them to.

I would get bigger bags of snap peas, carrots, pre-cut celery, green pepper, etc. And then divide them into separate baggies/smaller tupperware. Put them in your bag for the day and you are good to go.

Don't! I am the same way and while I'd be willing to cut loose for vacation and eat nothing but crap, it makes me miserable and sick and my DD too (DS can eat anything and not seem to suffer). So I try to keep our meals as "normal" as possible, and then throw in treats. When I read some of the trip reports I am in awe of how some folks can eat - pastries for breakfast, burgers and fries for lunch, cupcakes in the afternoon, sweet frozen drinks, and then pizza for dinner - I'd die! I bring food from home. At Disney, when there are veggies, there aren't enough of them, or they are overcooked or smothered in something. I pick up some V8s and we drink one every day, eat a salad at least once a day, and just do the best we can. The little packaged applesauces that come with some of the WDW kids meals do not have sugar added. I was able to get those for desserts sometimes with my CS meals. Not veggies but a good substitute. And especially with little kids its important to keep their routine. They don't understand vacation. If your DS eats his veggies now and gets just junk on his vacation, he may refuse to eat veggies once back home.

If you dine at any table service restaurants... DO ask for veggies that are not on the kids menu. All restaurants at Disney gave DS fresh strawberries.... 1 even took them from the bar's garnishes... and most were willing to serve up some fresh cooked peas, green beans, etc...

Yes veggies are scarce at WDW, but with a little research & creativity, little ones can eat healthy foods at WDW.

We were on the QSDP last Fall when DD was 2. I too was worried about healthy options so I scoured the menus on allearsnet and found QS places that served healthy sides & desserts (like yogurt). For instance, Cosmic Rays in MK serves green beans as a side with their ribs & mashed potato combo meal. I ordered that to share with DD & got grapes as my dessert for her to snack on later on. Wolfgang Puck Express also serves oven roasted veggies as a side. So, we used snack credits (some desserts could be bought with snack credits) & healthy dessert options to get DD her fill of healthy foods.

Not weird at all. I would bring them for sure.

Two trips ago, my middle child was 1 year 4 months old and barely at anything. She prefered to nurse (NOT my choice) and never liked any kind of food - baby food, toddler food, "real" food. Nothing. Well, she would eat junk food willingly, but that doesn't count. She did, however, like green beans. So, when I ordered things from gardengrocer.com, I ordered a bunch of small cans of green beans. They had a ring top opening, so no need for a can opener. I just brought a can and a small container with a cooler for the left-overs and she ate them on our trip. Thank goodness for the green beans!

Oh! I just remembered another thing we do when we're out with our little one: if we go to a burger or pizza place we ask them if we can get a plate of veggie toppings on the side. They always accommodate. If they have them to make other meals they must have veggies in the kitchen. You'll be surprised with what you can get - don't even bother looking at the pizza and chicken finger menu.
