Will I regret not doing Chef Mickeys?

We are going for our girls first trip in July, on DxDp! I know, lots of food, but this will be the only year we'll do it since they are 2 and 9... next year we would add a child and an adult! Figured it would give us a good chance to try out stuff and see what we like!

We have ADR's for the following character meals:
Tusker House
CRT
CP dinner
Ohana bfast
Akershus
H&V bfast

So we'll see safari mickey and poly mickey..... I didn't think seeing him as Chef would be necessary.
Anyone think it's a must do?

It is definitely *not* a must do. We were not impressed by our Chef Mickey breakfast a few weeks ago.

The food was quite sub-par and the character interaction felt very rushed. Very overpriced for the experience -- we paid more for this breakfast than for a dinner at The Wave (which while we didn't love, at least served good food).

Your other ADR character meal choices are great -- we have really enjoyed all of those!

Have a blast!

I absolutely agree with you. In the past it was great, now we could care less.

We have eaten here twice, breakfast & dinner. The breakfast (2006) was pretty good, but dinner (July 2008) was really not very good. My sister & her family & my parents went last year during free dining & they didn't like it either. If you decide to go I'd do breakfast.

for some reason I really missed not doing it on our last trip. I had to make sure to make reservations for our upcoming trip. We think the breakfast is really fun there! :goodvibes

We had dinner at Chef Mickey's in February and thought it was great. Not sure I would return w/o the kids, but they just loved it and I would have felt really bad had we not done it. It's definately a restaurant that we will return to, and one of the best character experiences we have ever had.

We always enjoy Chef Mickey's as well as they other character buffets. The reality is though on any given trip we just can't fit in all of them. Something needs to go and we usually pick a different one to drop each time. I think that you'll have plenty of opportunities to see Mickey with your other choices. Besides, missing it just gives you an excuse to have to go back sometime in the future!

We had dinner at Chef Mickeys last summer. We were not impressed at all. The food wasn't very good, but the character interaction was good. We are not going back this September--too many other good places to eat!!

I understand your concern about "Mickey overkill" but for us it was not an issue - we did all 3 of those character brkfsts last year: Tusker, CM & Ohana. Chef Mickey's brkfst is a must do for us - very nice breakfast buffet, fun atmosphere & the Fab 5! My personal suggestion would be to drop H&V for CM - if you were on the fence about it. Unless your 2 yr old loves JoJo, Goliath and/or Little Einsteins, H&V is one of the few sub-par character brkfsts, IMHO.

This is kind of how we feel about Chef Mickey's too...we visit WDW a least once every year and don't go each visit even though we like the food and the atmosphere. This visit in June we're going to do Crystal Palace lunch instead of Chef Mickey breakfast since we liked CP during our last visit. Sometimes it's nice to switch things up since there are lots of other options.

For us, we only really have Boma as our "must do meal" every trip to WDW.

We always do Chef Mickey's dinner on our first night at WDW and we have never had a bad experience with the food or the characters. We love it and it is a must do every trip. :cool1:

The food is just ok, but you are really there for the characters.

I think the food is very similar to Golden Corral - not horrible, but not gourmet either.

no, you won't regret it! We were there about a month ago and the character's were soooooo rush and the food was the worst we had at Disney :sad2:

I don't think you will miss it since you have other char. dinings where they will get to see Mickey. We have always enjoyed eating at Chef Mickeys and the char. have been so nice and have some great pictures. We were sad by our last trip not being able to eat there but we ate at other char. dining and pictures opts that not eating there and seeing the char. in a more formal setting wasn't that upset for our daughter.

Breakfast at CM's is a must-do for us! It is just a classic Disney experience - we generally have very good character interaction, and find the breakfast food to be very good. I especially enjoy the breakfast pizza :)

I think this can happen at times no matter where you go. Your experience could be different from someone else's on a different night. Chef Mickey's is one of the best known dining experiences in all of Disney, and it's in high demand. A few years ago we stayed IN the Contemporary but couldn't get in at all. I REALLY wanted to go, even if it was rushed! I do think they try to get as many people in as possible, which can sometimes make people feel rushed. But you can only be rushed if you allow it. They can't shoo you out the door!

That said, it also depends on what time you dine. We were there on a late breakfast seating last June. The restaurant was emptying out, and the characters came past our table several times. Donald kept messing with our 13 year old son. It was a lot fun and one of our favorite character meal experiences ever!

We had breakfast there last month and it's now a must do for BF or dinner.

DS isn't a big food person and doesn't each much but he ate 3 plates here!! He said it was his favorite restaurant. It's a must do for next trip and it will be his birthday meal. :goodvibes

But you get to see Minnie!:thumbsup2 That was a HUGE selling point for my girls! Unfortunately she's not at many character meals. Personally, we really enjoyed breakfast here...the variety of food was insane with so many options to choose from plus the characters were so darn fun! Goofy came to our table and saw that all 3 of my girls had 2 braids in their hair. He started jumping up and down and clapping while pointing to his 2 ears. My daughter started screaming "Mommy, Goofy thinks we had ears like him!!" It was so precious. So we're going again in October and my girls can hardly wait. They also really enjoyed seeing the Contemporary Resort with it's square trees and huge wall mural. A definite must for us every trip now! :goodvibes I don't think it's too much Mickey! Just think, when you get back home, no more meals with ANY characters, how boring!:sad2:

You'll be fine. I think it's better to mix it up with the characters like you have. Chef Mickey's is the most "commercial" of the character breakfasts to me - the food is mediocre at best, the characters are rushed and the tables are really close together.

We LOVE Cape May for the character interaction and size of the restaurant and are going back for our august trip. Once at Chef Mickey's was enough for us!

My kids - even though they are teenagers now, have asked to go back to Chef Mickey's. It is the only character meal they have asked to go back to. They just love the fun atmosphere and all the napkin twirling.

That said, if you're doing other character dining, I don't think you'll be missing out if you give Chef Mickey's a miss. I would chose based on which characters your kids would like to see the most.
