Oh, I so need some advice. I've just booked 4 night Jan 8th with a CAT 7 and am starting to question if we'll like the navigators' verandah. It's about $200 less than the CAT 6, so that swayed my decision. Now i'm starting to wonder if I should switch. This is our first cruise, anyone been in CAT 7? Did you like it /hate it? Wished you had open air verandah. Ugh! Any help is appreciated.

I hope not. I have one on the Panama Canal cruise.

I got one of the secret Cat 7's. It's open, but with the way the ship is built it is only half open. It used to be a cat 5 but they switched it to cat 7. There are 4 of these, maybe you could switch to one of these rooms. 7120 & 7620 are two of them. I am not sure the other two, they are on deck 6.

Our first cruise was in cat 7, 2nd cruise was cat 11, and upcoming repo cruise is cat 7 again.

We love it - no regrets whatsoever.

We have twice had a naviagtors verandah in preference to a regular verandah. The only difference is your verandah is more enclosed with a large vent opening on the balcony. We loved it because it shields you from the elements but is still sunny and breezy meaning you can enjoy a morning or evening out there. If you were fully exposed to the high sun or evening/at sea breeze/wind you might be not be so comfortable. It also gives you more privacy.

Thoroughy recommend it and you will love, rest assured. :boat:

we have 1 of those "secret" cat 7s for our Aug 06 Western cruise
I know it's a partially closed verandah so thats why the # was lowered. But why isnt it considered a reclassified cat 6? (instd of 5)

The Navigator Verandahs are our personal favorite. As Boomdocker said you are partially enclosed so you don't get as much wind etc. The opening does let in plenty of light and air. We also like the way it is set up. Regular verandahs have two chairs and a table. The Navigator Verandah has a padded wooden chair, a wooden tabel and a padded bench. That bench is my favorite for relaxing on with a good book.

Barb - the regular verandahs on deck 7 are call cat 5's, the ones on deck 6 are all cat 6's. So depending on which deck you are on the new reclassified 7's were either 5 or 6.

They are our favorites after sailing 3 times with a regular veranda, one inside and 1 navigator.

Sailed twice....first had a regular plexiglass verandah and second had the navigators verandah. I loved both but would pick a navigators verandah again in a heartbeat. It was slightly enclosed and felt more private. I actually have another cruise booked for sep 2006 and picked the corner cat 7 verandah where it is a plexiglass but partially blocked. First time with that one....hope I dont regret it lol.

Love the Nav Verandahs...will not sail on anything else now. 7620 and 7120 are the best......

You won't go wrong with one of these......

So happy to hear all these rave reviews of the Cat 7. DH and I got one for our next cruise and I was a little worried. But hey we have always had a cat. 11 so cat 7 is a few steps up!

October will be our fifth cruise, and the FIRST time that we didn't have a Navigator's verandah. We would have totally had one this time too if they would have had two with connecting rooms!

Thank you so much for the opinions. I will now stop second guessing my decision, and not give it another thought!!

on a 2001 Magic Eastern cruise we had the Navigators Verandah and enjoyed it - there was a lot of wind when out on the main decks, so it was nice to go there and be shielded a bit but still outside, looking at the sea.

I was disappointed that the seats are "fixed" (they don't move, so you have minimal play in how you sit on the verandah)
The other thing - our view of the outside from the bed is limited.
Overall though - I would do the Navigator Verandah again.

on 2005 Magic Western Cruise, I went down a grade and got a Deluxe oceanview with porthole window - we enjoyed it just as much, and saved lots more. We could lay in bed and watch out the large porthole window, and we found we didn't miss going outside from our stateroom much - we could sit in the sheltered areas on Deck 9 or Deck 4 areas just as well.

I don't think I would like an inside room - I do want to see if it is day or night outside at least when in my stateroom - but have equally enjoyed the two options I have done so far

We have one of the "secret" Cat 7's for our first cruise in August. You can't beat having a Cat 5 cabin for the price of a Cat 7!

What is the beauty of having a cat 5 cabin, but paying for a cat 7? What are the advantages?

Can you fit 2 adults & 2 kids in the Cat 7's that were once Cat 5. I thought I read somewhere that Cat 7's could fit only 3 people. They have a full bed and a sofa bed. Is this true.

I plan to book a 2007 cruise as soon as the dates are released. I would be so happy if I could get a cat 5 for the price of a cat 7.
